Yes, because it is completely impossible to swim underwater where you might breathe in water and drown. :-/

Fark moderator: Death is hilarious.

Barakku [TotalFark] 2009-11-26 10:41:18 PM
I can only assume you used "oxymoron" to avoid an irony war.

/It's like 1000 H when all you need is O2

shanrick [TotalFark] 2009-11-26 10:43:03 PM
Could it be that said swimmer stopped swimming and then drowned?

Or would that be too much detail for your pithy news article?

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2009-11-26 10:45:43 PM
Climber falls.

Sailor sinks.

Electrician electrocuted.

Subby beaten to death by his own headline.

Dumbest. Headline. Ever.

TheBigBadCrystallineEntity 2009-11-26 10:57:20 PM
Dumb subby, when you stop swimming you are no longer a swimmer. You are a floater.

Gyrfalcon 2009-11-26 10:58:24 PM
Lessee....

I had a former roommate, a championship swimmer, who drowned.

A good friend, a top-class climber, who was killed in a climbing accident. A buddy of his died the same way a few years earlier.

Is it the MORON part of the headline we need to discuss?

Wut?

Came for the "what drowning may look like" pic, left disappointed.

I do no think that word means, what subby thinks it means...

LowbrowDeluxe 2009-11-26 11:00:51 PM
Really more of a 'sinker'.

Maybe he was competing in the 400-metre breaststroke for non-swimmers.

/coverage will resume once they finish fishing the corpses out
//Next, the marathon for the incontinent
///And now, the larch.

A friend played "fluter" in a Scrabble game. I hadn't realized it was a real word, thinking that one could only be a flautist. Apparently, though, a fluter is one who is fluting, whereas a flautist is one who regularly flutes.

If we had more words like "flautist," we wouldn't have headlines like this.

Oooor maybe we need to discuss the fact that people around you keep dying in oxymoronic fashions? Hopefully the rest of your friends are porn stars.

Well, if they're gonna go anyway, might as well be for something awesome. I mean, really, what do you want me to say? Hopefully they are firefighters? That'd just be messed up.

If ya gotta go, I can think of worse ways.

Hung_Solo: porn stars.

Tragically, man collects life insurance in money shot accident.

johnsoninca [TotalFark] 2009-11-26 11:06:17 PM
Nowhere in the article does it say the man could swim.

duckpoopy 2009-11-26 11:07:03 PM
I bet subby says 'random' a lot too.

Drowner swims?

skinink 2009-11-26 11:13:46 PM
Just as I read the the headline, I found a fly in my chardonnay. Isn't it oxymoronic, don'tcha think?

SpongeJamie - NoPants [TotalFark] 2009-11-26 11:36:01 PM
Seems to me a swimmer is actually more at risk to drown than someone who doesn't go in the water.
And so, if this swimmer gave up swimming, perhaps this submitter should give up submitting?

whatshisname 2009-11-26 11:39:35 PM
Oxy moron. Isn't that Rush Limbaugh?

or the submitter of this astounding headline

Darbus 2009-11-26 11:40:26 PM
Swimmer drown now?

GoSurfing 2009-11-26 11:40:33 PM
There are such things as cramps subby.

"A 52-year-old man has drowned in a swimming hole in the Coromandel."

He may also have suffered a heart attack/stroke.

cutthroat 2009-11-26 11:41:03 PM
Oxiclean headline: Billy Mays is dead

Krymson Tyde 2009-11-26 11:53:05 PM
So, is that ironic?

No_One_Special 2009-11-26 11:55:30 PM
That's not an oxymoron, but as someone with a background in Military Intelligence, I'm really getting a kick out of some of these replies...

wildtoast 2009-11-27 12:14:33 AM
Slow news day in New Zealand huh?

"but the man was dead before they arrived."

Took all the fun out of the rescue. Bummer.

CasperImproved 2009-11-27 12:15:24 AM
Sad... Swim or sink... he sunk.

graham_paige 2009-11-27 12:19:12 AM

Then it would be former swimmer drowned

Abbreviated.

A five syllable word for the shortest way to say something.

randomstranger 2009-11-27 01:02:26 AM
I guess the headline could've been "Drowner drowns", right?

Gyrfalcon 2009-11-27 01:29:29 AM
randomstranger: I guess the headline could've been "Drowner drowns", right?

No, it would have been "Drowner swims."

GungFu 2009-11-27 01:48:33 AM
