Those were some seriously amazing photos.

Outstanding. Green it.

I wish them and the Afghani people the best. I hope they come home soon.

This deserves a green on Thanksgiving, or any other day.

Thank you troops!

Thankful why?

m0llusk [TotalFark] 2009-11-26 05:49:22 PM
Afghanistan looks a lot more peaceful now than it has during most of my life. Much of the strife now is financed with drug smuggling money care of the drug war. If people really knew how much this all cost they would want our troops back immediately. Stop it with the conservative posturing and bone up on Just War Theory before we end up overseas for no reason again.

8ace [TotalFark] 2009-11-26 05:55:30 PM
Great pictures. I didn't need them too think of the people involved in war.

Sorry for them. Hope they all get home safe and sound.

They also make me want to play Call Of Duty MW2

I'm thankful for soldiers.
I'm also thankful for the guy working at the gas station that sold me a case of beer this morning. Where's his salute?

Hats off to the soldiers.

Also, just a head up on the 2nd NSFW pic. It's really really really really really really not safe for anything really. It's like, on 4chan level on the gore-o-meter.

Farker T 2009-11-26 07:25:16 PM
Damn. War is ugly.

Next time let's not, okay?

ArtosRC 2009-11-26 07:26:04 PM
Once again, these images are fantastic and truly give a human feel to the war-- be it for better or worse. While some are emotional heart-wrenchers, #28 is particularly disturbing.

Damn.

I spent a Thanksgiving in Iraq, which I thought was pretty crazy, but Afghanistan seems like another planet. I really wish these guys could be home.

Really? I get that it's gory, but the most chilling images to me are #37 and #41.

I know, right? It's always better to bury our heads in the sand and pretend like nothing bad happens outside of the USA.

In that last pic, who's army has the Russian chopper? The Afghan army?

No, they're not. In fact they're as likely imperiling it.

Can someone please explain the patch on this man's jacket?

A magnet, what appears to be a steaming pile of shiat, and the letters "A POS", which I'm reading as "A Piece of shiat". WTF?

Savages! We should just nuke Afghanistan.

And before you tell me about the innocents who are simply victims of Taliban oppression I say that they didn't do their duty to overthrow the despots and if there really are too few to overthrow them then death by a single nuclear strike should be preferable to the kind of punishment the Taliban would dole out.

We've tried giving shiatloads of money to these people - they responded with terrorism. Now it is time to kill them mercilessly. It's the kind of "hope and change" we need in this world. It's the only way to stop torture, suffering and death.

Soldiers sometimes bleed.

I_Can't_Believe_It's_Not_Smegma 2009-11-26 07:36:16 PM
I'd rather these soldiers be home with their families instead of trying to establish democracy with these unappreciative goat farkers who change their alliances more often than they wipe their ass with anything other than left hand

Fight the war with drones. When they get out of hand blow them up. Screw the ground war.

the thing in the middle left of the picture....
what the fark is that?

it looks like something that has a round body and 'tailfins'.

Those were pretty good. Generally when I see a picture I just think it's a picture, but alot of those had some heavy symbolism and ability to invoke emotion. Gotta buy lunch for the next guy in fatigues I see...

Not likely - how often do we throw stones at women until they are dead for showing their ankles in public?

And on those rare occasions when we do execute people at least there is a public record of the trial and we allow for multiple appeals.

No, the same cannot be said about us.

A surveillance blimp. Stick a bunch of cameras on it, Infra-red, etc. Float up the blimp.

#19 is my co-worker's brother's funeral.

His sister had burst into our office, screaming, looking for Mark (my coworker). I ran out of my office, wondering what the commotion was.

Mark is still off work on leave.

I can only imagine what it is like to find out about losing your sibling that way.

Also shocked a picture of his funeral made it to the Boston Globe.

does a piece of that man's bag have a tag with the words

Thanks! That's actually pretty funny.. The shiat magnet part, not the bleeding part.

And another thanks goes to all the brave men and women in the military doing the necessary stuff I'm too chickenshiat to ever do

Hmmm why is there a picture of the Taliban, of course all hiding their faces like cowards, in there?

TheGhostofFarkPast 2009-11-26 07:50:07 PM
What makes these pictures even more sad is that all of that bombing, fighting, and destruction was brought upon us on false premises and ideology that so far has killed way way to many people. These pictures shouldn't even exist if we took a different time line. So many needless lives wasted both in giving us this "tradition" we call Thanksgiving and this almost endless nation building we seem to be doing.

/amazing photos

My guess? He's probably been in that same spot, watching the same thing happen many times before.

Do you feel oppressed? Do you think living in the US is even remotely comparable to living in Afghanistan at any point in history?

I don't like our politicians either, but given a choice between US politicians and Taliban religious zealots, I don't think there's any comparison.

Feel free to expound on your thoughts though
