Leno has nothing but U.S. Troops in the audience tonight, along side this guest -

I'd say its worth watching at least for tonight.

Today, we're gonna punk the big Win. I'm talkin about Winston Churchill. He's all proud and (bleep) about winning World War II. Man, what an ego. There were like other dudes in that war too, you know?

Anyhow, Churchill doesn't know it but his valet at this fancy restuarant is going to look a lot like Adolf Hitler. Wait til we get his reaction to that. Then, his wine steward is gonna look like Benito Mussolini. I don't know who that dude is but I think Churchill had it in for him too at some point.

Best for last. When Churchill goes in to the bathroom the guy who hands out towels is going to be an exact look a like for General Yamamoto. This is going to be off the hook crazy. That's why only the TV guide channel will carry this show.

we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
We shall fight them in a nice evening dress with shiny pumps and a hat that says business but flirty.
We shall fight them in silk stockings even though they may get a run in them, we shall continue to fight and not fuss too much about it.
we shall never surrender

Check out the dozens of YouTubes from the Alexandra Palace Television Society.
The BBC started television broadcasting in 1936 !

They tried two systems.
One used quick developing film and the other was all electronic.

TV broadcasts were shut down for WWII and the CRT manufacturing plant
used for radar screens.

Later the TV transmitter was used to interfere with German bomber navigation.

You would have to be a conspiracy nut to think that was what they had planned to do all along.

I don't know of any film based system... how would that work? There was a mechanically scanned system (Baird's, the world's first demonstrated TV IIRC) but that used basically the same principle, it just used moving discs to scan the image rather than a swept electron beam.

Baird eventually gave up on mechanical TV and moved to electronic, inventing the demonstrating the first colour TV in 1940 and even demonstrating 1800 line HD.

I'm more of a Jeremy Clarkson viewer myself but I'd give Winnie a go if he had some good guests on.

/Come to think of it Churchill would be a media personality if he were alive today. Think about it: Wrote a bit, good talker, outrageous, drank like fish.

Churchill was a deceptive SOB and no friend of this country. You can't trust the brits, ever.

Baird's mechanical system had a quick-development system at the end because the mechanical system could transmit film better than live subjects. The one advantage it had was the delay in transmission meant that a performer could watch the last of their performance as it went out over the air.

BTW, I couldn't see in the article when this is going to air. Anyone know?

ethics-gradient: /Come to think of it Churchill would be a media personality if he were alive today. Think about it: Wrote a bit, good talker, outrageous, drank like fish.

He wrote quite a lot, really. He made a good portion of his income from writing newspaper columns and his books. He didn't drink as much as his reputation suggests. He did start his day with a whisky and soda, but it was very weak and he was known to sip that first drink for most of the day.

BTW, CornHut, I prefer trolls to at least put a bit of argument with their invective. Might I suggest something along the lines of Pat Buchanan's book on the subject? I disagree with the conclusions drawn in that book, but it would give your disparagement of Mr. Churchill at least a thin veneer of evidence.

That makes sense. I had a bizarre mental image of a combination TV receiver, projector and Polaroid camera.

Just found out Baird actually demonstrated colour in 1928! Mechanical of course, but considering colour wasn't actually deployed to the public until decades later, remarkable.

No love for the other man credited with invention of the TV Philo Farnsworth.

first fully electronic television system, including the first working electronic image pickup device (video camera tube), and for being the first to demonstrate fully electronic television to the public. On September 7, 1927, By 1928, Farnsworth had developed the system sufficiently to hold a demonstration for the press first image shown was, appropriately, a dollar sign. In 1929, the design was further improved by elimination of a motor-generator, so the television system now had no mechanical parts. That year, Farnsworth transmitted the first live human images using his television system, including a three and a half-inch image of his wife Elma ("Pem"), with her eyes closed because of the blinding light required.

In 1935, Farnsworth technicians prepare to death-ray tap artist Baby Feets O'Hooligan and the Not-Ready-For-Radio Rhythm Boys. An estimated audience of zero viewed this non-history-making broadcast.
