Coed dorms leading to a massive DOCUMENTED increase in the obvious

Do they still have a single sex res for all the awkward ugly women and closeted athletes?

At UMiami, all our dorms (which we called "Residential Colleges") were co-ed. Two of the dorms had all male floors and all female floors, so they were segregated. The other dorms were more co-mingled. For the other dorms, like mine, I had a female roommate. We shared a bathroom with the people next door, so they had to be female. But across the hall were guys. Ah, I remember those late night room shuffles well.

3 partners in the past year? LOL

the ugly have had none, the guys, maybe, the girls? Probably that many in a night for some. The only thing that article encourages is lying.

I never lived in residence, but I hung out a lot with my friends who did.

All male floors? Check.
All female floors? Check.

Roommate swapping so couples could live together? Within days.

At my school (Hendrix College), we have 2 men's dorms, 3 women's dorms, and 1 coed. The "party dorm" is hands down Martin Hall, one of the men's dorms. The coed has almost no partying and a reputation for being boring, actually. It's definitely quieter than any of the single-sex halls. I'm sure there's plenty of drugs, drinking, and sex in all the halls, but insofar as there's a difference my experience runs counter to TFA.

If you are the parent of a college student who lives in a co-ed dorm, you may have a reason to be concerned about what goes on behind closed doors. need to take a deep breath and remember that your precious snowflake has reached the age of majority and can make his or her own mistakes now.

/Fixed.
//I think.

I lived on co-ed floors/dorms all 4 years of college and only had 1 partner... but I dated him since Freshman year (and still am 5 years later) so I'm a statistical anomaly in more ways than one.

/never been sexiled either!
//most of the time I've had a single ;)

CruJones 2009-11-26 08:45:45 PM
So people are more likely to have sex when they live together? I can buy that

Riotcow 2009-11-26 08:48:43 PM
Coed? Life is farking "Coed". There shouldn't be any other dormitory than one with a reasonable representation of people in the world. Additionally, students in college are god damned adults, and if you aren't willing to treat them as such, don't accept them into college.

Is the obvious increase in the students' honesty with a survey about alcohol and sex?

Why do the parents need to be concerned about the sex? College students aren't kids anymore.

I lived in a dorm for 2 years... when everyone is separated by wing and floor I rarely ever even SAW the other sex.

/Women's wing's were so quiet though! I loved it!

Manzanita Hall

13 stories of co-ed freshmen wearing clothing appropriate for the 110 degrees outside. Oh, the shenanigans.

But man what a shiathole.

Riotcow: Additionally, students in college are god damned adults, and if you aren't willing to treat them as such, don't accept them into college.

I don't know what college you've been to - but sure as hell most of those adults were still kids, out on their own for the first time ever and getting stupid thrills doing things their parents would never have permitted.

We didn't have wings. We didn't share rooms or suites yet with the opposite sex, but some floors even voted to share bathrooms since there weren't many bathrooms and sometimes the only bathroom for your sex was really really far away. I have to say living with boys on the same floor never made me want to have sex with any of them. My boytoy was from a different dorm (we lived on the same floor senior year... but I wanted to have sex with him before I lived with him haha). I dunno floor-cest never seemed like a good idea to me.

Tr0mBoNe: Do they still have a single sex res for all the awkward ugly women and closeted athletes?

awkward ugly women? at my uni, the single-sex residence is the one with all the hot girls. it's kind of funny, b/c their parents obviously sent them to single sex res to keep them away from boys...but every weekend, the guys at my res would head straight to the all-girls dorm. it was called "the brothel" for a good reason.

researchers found that students living in co-ed housing were nearly 3 times more likely to admit to binge-drinking on a weekly basis than those in single sex dorms

Coed dorms have been around (on some campuses, anyway) since the mid 70s. Link fails. Subby, too, for that matter.

When it comes to co-ed dorms, there's one rule: never sex up anyone who lives on your floor. You'll just increase the chances of running into them.
