FTFA: "Kelly said the Bills' experience with quarterbacks from the Golden State haven't panned out.

The list includes Rob Johnson, who went 4-7 from 1998-2001, J.P. Losman, the 22nd overall pick in 2004, and Edwards, who was benched last week in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick by interim head coach Perry Fewell following the firing of Dick Jauron."

He's got a point. With the exception of those that subby mentioned in the headline, the majority of the remainder of the Super Bowl winning QBs come come from the midwest (PA, IN and OH) and the south (AL, MS, KY, LA). Had Kelly and Marino actually won the SBs they were in, (western) PA would be the clear winner with 10 rings.

Regardless of where the QB is from, though, nothing is going to improve in Buffalo until the right coach is in there and the right GM.

Status quo in Buffalo is fine with me, as I rather like seeing the Bills at the bottom of the AFC East year after year.

Depends on whether he means QBs who were born in California, played high school in California, or played college in California.

List of those born in California is here (new window)

It may not be Pennsylvania, but then, what would Jim Kelly know about Super Bowl winning QBs?

Oh right, he played against so many of them.

Montana=4 Unitas=1 Namath=1 (all from western PA). Add Kelly (4 attempts) and Marino (1 attempt) and you'd have 11 (not 10). But you're right. I didn't look up losing QBs (besides Kelly and Marino), so the CA list could be much longer.

/glad when Kelly retired. He was such a thorn in the Dolphins side

Wow, no love for Troy Aikman? I will agree with Kelly though, as a former kid from Cali, who has lived in places that actually has a winter season. Californians don't handle the brutal cold winters of Buffalo that someone from PA. could.

The thing is, though, the name Kelly's actually floated as who he'd like to see the Bills get for their QB is Tim Tebow, who grew up in noted cold-weather climates Florida and the Phillipines.

Um, but the love from Jesus Christ will keep Tebow warm during those cold, cold games.

I think this comment may have been intended to be more of a shot at Poise Sanchez, who played only warm-weather football before he got drafted by a New York team, and has struggled in cold weather.

That has no bearing on his ability to advise an owner on football issues, I know. But the guy's a jackass in person.

Really? My girlfriend saw him in the Buffalo airport. She was very nauseous (long story) and while waiting for her bags stepped backwards and onto his foot. She whirled around and nearly threw up on him, but he was nothing but incredibly nice about it, even after she mentioned she recognized him.

This is the only interaction I have first or second-hand knowledge of, but he seemed nice then.

Why would the Bills draft Tebow, they are solid at running back. It would be better for them to focus on other needs of the team.

My interaction was at a hotel where I was an employee, so maybe he felt less obligated to make a "good impression". Probably not fair to judge a guy based on two short interactions, but the two times that I met him he came off as a pompous jackhole.

Tebow is the complete package, Offensive Line, Quarterback, Halfback, Fullback, and a hell of a Tight End.

The BILLS haven't had success with QBs from California. None of the QBs in the submitter's headline actually played for the BILLS, correct? And Jim Kelly was talking about how to help the BILLS, am I right?

Heres a thought. The Bills might want to try screening potential for ability rather than state of origin. At this rate, with 49 States and some South Pacific islands left on the list, they will be the Toronto or Los Angeles Bills before they ever find the right geographic entity to draft quarterbacks from

So in your opinion the Bills should cross California off their list of places from which to draw quarterbacks from? Which States do you reckon are still on their list of places that are safe from this voodoo superstition?

Hey, if you keep trying one thing over and over and it's not working, why not try something else?

The Bills have had a series of QBs from California, all of whom have failed miserably. For whatever reason. It certainly isn't that crazy of an idea to suggest they try something different for a change.

They might as well try filtering for left handed quarterbacks with a different shoe size for all the good it will do them. The problems the Bills have generating offense from their quarterbacks are not due to State of origin.

Sure. They've also all been white. Maybe they need a black QB. There's lots of QBs from CA and many of them play rather well in the cold. Just because a QB sucks for the Bills (and pretty much every single QB they've had HAS sucked for the Bills) doesn't mean they can't play in the cold. It means they can't play for a sh*tty team with a sh*tty coach and sh*tty talent around them.

Also, seriously, JP Losman couldn't even beat out Patrick f*cking Ramsey as QB at TULANE. What retard thought he was first-round material? We're going to say he was bad because he came from CA? How about he was bad and everyone knew he wasn't good except the Bills.

CA, TX, and FL are the current breeding grounds for QBs. Good weather promotes pass friendly offenses and the states have a ton of kids and good football colleges.

Well, there's that. Plus, Aikman is from California, moved to Oklahoma when he was 12, and played in California, Brady's from California and played in Michigan, so Kelly isn't even being consistent in that aspect of his argument, either.

Let's be honest here...Rob Johnson was by far the very worst of all the QBs after Kelly. When Wade "I'm a good DC, but I suck as a HC" Phillips chose him ahead of Flutie, as a Dolphins fan I was pretty happy. The only thing Johnson excelled at was holding on to the ball too long and getting sacked.

I'd love to see a game with the Bills of '90-'94 vs. any of the SB Patriots teams. I respect Belichick's teams, but I think that those Bills win 90% of the time.

IIRC, didn't Flutie lead the Bills to 9 or 10 wins in 99, they had their playoff position locked in and Bum's Kid "rested" Flutie for the meaningless season ender-in which Johnson had a good game, then they turned around and handed the playoff start to Johnson (the Bills-Titans Touchdown Throwback game) I used to work with a diehard Bills fan who swore the team was cursed after that. He hated Johnson. Fun fact, the person who seemed to love Johnson the most was Jim Rome. He was relentlessly hyping Johnson and ripping "the Midget Mullet" Flutie.

I'd love to see a game with the Bills of '90-'94 vs. any of the SB Patriots teams. I respect Belichick's teams, but I think that those Bills win 90% of the time.

The 90 and 91 teams were pretty good, that's for sure. I think the Redskins and Cowboys teams that beat Buffalo in the last three of thier Super Bowls would've easily defeated the 00s Pats.
