I know, every day on my way to work I'm offered at least 3 or 4 jobs. I'm working out of my field because I want to. It certainly has nothing to do with the many people with much more experience who are also looking for jobs.

Complain about the economy all you want, but the simple fact is that the vast majority of people have jobs, even when the recession was at its peak.
Sure, there will always be people who can't (for various reasons) get work. But there are plenty of jobs available for the rest of us. They may not be glamorous or fun or pay well or be in a convenient location, but they're out there.

They recognize the fact that some are homeless by choice. That's good, and the fact that they still want to do this thing regardless, is a pretty good testament to their level of compassion.

I'd support it, and volunteer if it were local.. not a penny to anyone but the homeless, that's awesome! Money sent there looks well spent to me. Kudos to those that go this route.

Good for them, that's hard work. I'm an atheist but I don't begrudge churchy people doing this stuff on public land (as long as they don't make the recipients pray in order to get a meal).

I did the soup kitchen thing once ... never again though, not at that same place anyway. The kitchen was tiny with people running everywhere with giant pots of boiling ingredients and sharp knives. College kids arrived late in the meal prep and did hardly anything just to get a free meal and said they volunteered. The people who showed up for the meal were largely middle-aged guys with Olde West mustaches and hats. Or young punk families with fat moms and dyed hair on both parents.

This led me to question why all these stylin' people and chunky women really needed a free meal to begin with ... and if they were competent enough to style themselves, and could afford their accoutrements, aren't they competent enough to hold a friggin' job of some sort? Maybe some of them had jobs already and were just taking advantage of the free meal?

2. Live outside (I'd like to give you a time limit but there simply isn't one once you're living on the streets)

5. Now go get a job, keeping in mind you're probably still in posession of the same underwear you had when you first became homeless..You may not be wearing them, but you'll have them on your person somewhere, possibly as a hanky.

Where I live there are a few jobs, minimum wage, where every job opening has hundreds of people applying. You have to be available to work 24/7, so no second job is possible. If you are over 25 forget applying, they only want the youngest. Rents start at $500 for a rat hole, and if you are lucky to get the job, that's $7.25 an hour at 20 hours a week, so about $140 a week, minus taxes that's about $100 a week. Good luck living on $400 a month. That's why a lot of people live in homeless shelters and have jobs, about 80% of the homeless have jobs where I live.

Personally, I'm getting v. close to being homeless. Though I usually work 2-3 jobs at a time, I was injured in an accident in September. Since then, after jumping through loads of hoops, I've been able to get on disability ($388 every two weeks) and food stamps, but thanks to bills needing to be paid, I may well be evicted soon. I've been trying to sell things that I've made (and not Regretsy-grade stuff, either) and some vinyl I have on hand, but the dent it makes is minimal. Training for a new job, and a good one, but it takes time (commission-only), and with all the doctor visits, well, life is hard. In the meantime, disability and food stamps help, but they don't cover what needs to be covered. Kick. Replies. Waaaaaaah.

In any case, I applaud these people. Judging people without knowing their story is a prime characteristic of a Class A Douchebag.

Man, I feel for you - a friend of mine got clipped by a car crossing a street and was out of work for more than two years, mostly waiting for the insurance company to decide that yea, he DID need a new knee as a resut of the accident.

He did not get a very good settlement on the deal, so my honest advice to you is get a good, really GOOD PI lawyer on your side - or the offenders insurance company will try to fark you good and solid on top of the accident.

I'm going over there with a case of malt liquor and see how many homeless people are willing to trade their freshly acquired sammiches for a bottle.

Yeah, I was riding on a city bus when the driver clipped something with a rear tire and I got thrown pretty violently into the window right next to me. Torn rotator cuff, tendinosis, disc bulges, the lot. The shoulder isn't healing, muscle relaxers don't do shiat, and despite going to therapy thrice a week, it's just not getting better. Appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon is next week.

I called a lawyer right away, but he A) can't file until treatment is complete and B) says that since it involves the city it won't pay much AND it'll take forever. Woohoo! Meantime, I have to find a way to survive. Doesn't kill me makes me stronger, or something like that. People keep telling me it'll get better. It is becoming increasingly difficult to believe that. Pollyanna bastards.
