I read that as "A brief history of pee" and laughed at what I thought was an underwear pun.

Cato the Younger recorded the popularity of this sweet course, and a cheesecake-like dish called Placenta, in his treatise De Agricultura.

In other news, I have just come up with a really nasty savoury pie that takes slightly over nine months to prepare.

/the first step is by far the best part

Pi is wrong (new window; first link on the page goes to the PDF article). It should have been defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its radius, not to its diameter. The true value is 6.28318531..., not this "3.141..." nonsense.

(I know you were told that there would be no math. They lied to you.)

I seem to recall Alton Brown saying something about how the original English pies and pasties were more like disposable edible lunchboxes. The filling was to be eaten and the crust -- rock-hard, drity from worker's hands and flavourless -- was to be thrown away.

I like pies.

If you are into pie you may enjoy Evan Klienman's blog. Over the summer she made a different pie every day. She then posted the results and a recipe.

Link goes to her blog with a bonus of a pie Alton Brown sent her. (She makes it sound like she knows him.) (new window)

Oh, you'll love this one.

The idea is that teaching pi as an irrational number will give children the idea that the universe is not God's perfect creation for humanity. I have also heard arguments from knuckle-draggers against teaching algebra as the concept of variables implies the same thing.

Sorry, xkcd (pop), they have gone and politicised math.

It stems from some description in the bible that something was 10 cubits in diameter and yet 30 cubits in circumference. Hence, pi = 3

Some people take things very, very literally.
