There's a joke about meat curtains or ingesting meat or something somewhere, but it's just not coming together.

I'm pretty sure she was the one running the tour I took at the Tower of London a couple of years back. It was pretty awesome.

FTFA - Her uniform - one of the most instantly recognisable symbols of Britain - had been damaged, an entry about her on the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia was tampered with and "harassing" notes were left in her locker, the report said.

Sounds more like high school then a group of middle-aged military personnel.

Been there twice. The second time it just happened that she was starting up a tour as I came in the gates, so I tagged along. She had a really loud, clear voice and was really good with her teaching style (as well as her knowledge).

We weren't planning to take the tour because we didn't think we had the time to sit and listen but ran into them about halfway through as they walked by the scaffolding area. It was so interesting that we ended up just following them the rest of the way. Afterward, we kicked ourselves for not just following from the beginning.

Everything I've heard is that she is amiable and good at her job. This sort of bullying is farking shameful. I've seen it before in the workplace and its disgusting and depressing. Glad these d1ckheads got booted.

I wish they had shown pictures of the two beefeaters who were fired. I've been there a few times and always managed to get the same beefeater as a tour guide. He was witty and personable and VERY well educated, not just about the tower but English history in general. A couple of times, we wandered off from subjects that were in the official tour and he really amazed me at the depth and breadth of his knowledge. For instance, he was able to relate the production of cod (yes, the fish) to the rate of colonization of North America, citing estimated tonnages at one point- and it couldn't have been rehearsed because it came from a ever more digressing series of questions and discussions between the beefeater and the audience.

I'd be very disappointed if the beefeater we visited was the one acting like an asshat.

You basterd. That wasn't nice.

I do feel like a beef sandwich now though.

I hope it wasn't Mitch, he was the guy I had when I went last summer. He was a hilarious Welsh guy who went into great detail about how the public executions went down.

This miniseries on the Tower (new window) has one episode about a guy training to be a Beefeater. Great episode and gives you a good insight into the hard work and dedication these people put into the job. Plus, they actually LIVE there!

Yes I hope the one that was fired wasn't Jerome the Haitian tranny that we met when we were at the Tower with Muffy and Todd last year. Talk about having your beef and eating it too! My word that sheman was worth the trip over the pond all by himself.

Very funny to see this story - I saw this chick the other day while visiting the Tower and wondered how she got that job.

She was posted at the tower holding the crown jewels and seemed to really enjoy her job. She was very knowledgeable, volunteering interesting information and stories about the items she was guarding.

I had no idea she was part of a huge news story that day!

I feel sorry for the appalling level of cruelty shown to the Tower ravens. When was the last time they stuck some nice heads on spikes for them to nibble at, let alone hang someone in an iron cage?
