Welcome to Farktography!

This Week's Theme: "Hello Old Friend. It's Nice to Meet You."
Description: Everyday we pass sights that catch our eye but don't register in our brains. Stop and take a picture of something that you pass by regularly. Something very familiar to you, but you have never really paid much attention to or have always wanted to photography but haven't. Difficulty: subject cannot be a person.

We ask that before submitting your photos you read and adhere to the following submission rules, including but not limited to the following:

- Submissions must be photographs; screen captures do not count as photographs.
- You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not submit anyone else's photography as your own.
- You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit the same photo to another contest later.
- You may enter 3 photos in each contest as long as each photo is of a different composition.
- Please post each photo separately so they can be voted for individually.

Ideally, your photograph should be presented as taken, with as little alteration as possible either digitally in-camera or in your image editor during post-processing. No selectively applied digital effects! No removal or addition of image elements, no spot treatments, and no HDR images, please.

With few exceptions (red-eye removal, sensor or scan dust removal), modifications to the original photograph must be made evenly across the image. See the rules for more information on acceptable modifications, or check in at the Farktography Forums.

Just the one image tonight.

Four years I walked under this sign while the store behind sat empty. It was a lovely old store, with lots of hardwood counters and racks. The place sat empty until an upscale clothing store moves in and takes the name "Liquor Store" and finally lights up the sign.

Colgate Clock


This is one of the largest clocks in the world and is located at the now-defunct Colgate Plant in Clarksville, IN. I grew up in the area, and the clock is a local landmark, having been at the plant since the 1920's I believe. The plant has been shutdown to outsource jobs, and there was some concern that the clock would be torn down, but so far so good. Somehow I never managed to actually go to the plant and photograph the clock until last night. Unfortunately the neon tubes on the minute hand appear to be burned out.

I see these pelicans all the time diving while I'm driving to work.

I stopped on the causeway last week, the baitfish were running, and this guy came along.

Silo


Not far from my house is a nature preserve on the grounds of a friary. The grounds are completely open to the public to (respectfully) use, and I often go there to hike around and take pictures. On the grounds is a barn and silo that I've seen many times and walked around, however, I didn't realize until recently that you can actually get inside the silo. It was creepy, but cool.

I've been meaning to go to the Amtrak station downtown for at least a year or two to watch and photograph both the people and the trains.

If the UP railyard project ever actually happens, the building is going to be moved for trak realignement, and boarding area as it sits will be long gone.

The "village" of Fair Oaks, CA has around 200 feral chickens living in the older part of town. They've become such an integral part of the community that the locals hold a festival in their honor every year.
