Shows how smart the judge is. He'll die before he can even begin serving the 498 year sentence.

Godscrack [TotalFark] 2009-11-25 08:44:55 PM
He should have claimed to be atheist. He would have just got life.

GreenAdder [TotalFark] 2009-11-25 09:00:29 PM
His poor cellmate(s). He's going to start stinking after the first life sentence. You figure they'd just let him out after he dies.

Maybe he'll be stillborn the next life.

That's a lot of ass-pounding

So he'll be out in 10?

Life sentence is 25 years. With good behavior, you can get out in 12. It's not really a life sentence.

Judge is just guaranteeing that the guy will NEVER get out of prison. No parole, no budget based early release program, nothing. He's there forever.

Good Riddance.

skinink 2009-11-25 11:23:44 PM

The good news is the judge thinks the guy will live to be 498 years old.

What is the legal reason that the judge can't simply say life in prison or something similar, and if he's gonna be sentenced like this why not simply execute him?

bunner [TotalFark] 2009-11-25 11:24:11 PM
Some courtrooms need an abattoir.

Because the legal system is designed to let people out early. This way, even if he's released early, he has another life sentence, and even if he's released early from that he won't be up for parole (or whatever) until a significant fraction of the 500 years is served... assumably the sum of the minimum times is significantly longer than the human lifespan, effectively guaranteeing an actual life sentence.

3/10

You might convince someone to start the "is the death penalty cheaper" debate, but over all the internet tough guy thing is pretty worn and cliche.

I would have preferred the State put him to sleep, but this works. He might have got a lighter sentence if he committed this crime in Jackson County instead of Clay County. They don't pussyfoot around up north of the river.

Subparmitter it happens more then you think.

Results 1 - 10 of about 2,930,000 for sentences of life plus (new window)

Mensan 2009-11-25 11:34:04 PM
Last I heard, in California an inmate would need to be sentenced to SEVEN sequential life sentences to have a reasonable chance of spending life in prison.

I, for one, am a firm supporter of the death penalty - when there is no doubt the convict is really the one who committed the crime. When he or she has confessed to others or there is other indisputable evidence - not cases such as Cameron Willingham, where there is strong contradictory evidence.

nytmare 2009-11-25 11:34:06 PM
"Pfff, I could do 498 years standing on my head."

"Oh yeah? Well then let's make it 996 years. See how you like that."

Nice that there aren't cruel and unusual punishments in the US.

iAmThatGuy 2009-11-25 11:41:16 PM
That's so harsh that even if he escapes, he'll still have to serve like 100 years.

After killing two people during the robbery, he then, according to the article:

"After fleeing the scene, Fulton shot and stabbed two of his three robbery partners, as he was the only one armed. The third partner bailed out of the car on U.S. 71 in Kansas City so he would not be shot or stabbed."

Cruel. Unusual. I don't thin so, Lucy.

He killed a bunch of drug dealers, stole all their swag, and is now spending the rest of his life in prison. Isn't this exactly how the socially maladjusted neocons want all the "undesirables" to take care of themselves?

/needless trolling
//probably misread the article anywho

I recognize the .38 Special, .308 Winchester, .45 ACP, and the 9mm Parabellum in front, but what are the things at the ends? The object on the left looks like it might be something like a .303 headspace gauge and I have no idea about what that is on the right.

The article said that he was found guilty not on just one charge, but 20. Each charge, since he was found guilty on all of them, means a certain time in prison. The judge sentences for each charge, adds up the numbers, and voila!

He also shot and injured two other people at the scene. Article doesn't make it clear, and the ages on the other two victims are close to the murder victims.

Yeah, shot and kill 2 people and injure 4 more, and scare the bejebus out of a 5th. I'd say dying in prison is a fitting sentence.

You're not fooling anyone, Bender. The next screw that falls out will be you.
Eat my shorts.
What was that?
Eat... My... Shorts.
You just bought yourself another Saturday.
Ooh, I'm crushed.
You just bought one more.
Well I'm free the Saturday after that. Beyond that, I'm going to have to check my calendar.
Good, cause it's going to be filled. We'll keep going. You want another one? Just say the word say it. Instead of going to prison you'll come here. Are you through?
No.
I'm doing society a favor.
So?
That's another one right now! I've got you for the rest of your natural born life if you don't watch your step. You want another one?
Yes.
You got it! You got another one right there! That's another one pal!
Cut it out!
You through?
Not even close bud!
Good! You got one more right there!
You really think I give a shiat?
Another! You through?
How many is that?
That's seven including when we first came in and you asked Mr. Vernon whether Barry Manilow knew that he raided his closet.
Now it's eight. You stay out of this.
Excuse me sir, it's seven.
Shut up, Peewee! You're mine Bender...for two months
I gotcha! I gotcha!
What can I say? I'm thrilled!

Too bad he is shown more mercy than his victims.

Capital punishment isn't a deterrent, it is punishment and this
POS wrapped in skin should be executed forewith.

why waste a bullet?

A large parabolic arch upside down with a 5 ton steel roller at the top of it. lay prisoner down in the bottom of the arch and let the roller go. it rolls over the prisoner and back up the other side of the arch. lay another prisoner down before the roller returns. repeat.

You can clean up with a garden hose.

Sounds like his Mom had bigger plans for him.
Guess it just didn't work out eh?

We can send a man to the moon but we still can't figure out how to execute a person more than once. Why is that?

I once did that in english class, or something similar.
I was the detainee.

Ended up with 2 months of detention for 2 mins of total hilarity, I will let you think if that was worth it.

You've got to mount a plaster pirate ship on the steel roller so it looks like it is riding up and down on the waves as it goes over the prisoners.

And you must add the "You are a Pirate!" song in the background.

I'm only a supporter of the death penalty when it comes to saving money.

And I won't stop at prisoners, either. I could save us a fortune.

kvinesknows 2009-11-26 12:54:17 AM
Seems to me that when there are cases like this, the guilty party should be given the option of the death penalty or serving his time.

And since it was his option...it would not have to be humane at all. A stabbing a week in a different part of the body. Until he finally dies.

Crazy Bacon Legs 2009-11-26 02:05:57 AM
Whatever. With the parole system the way it is, he'll be out in 400 years. 450 tops.

The system sucks.
