Ooh, here is a good question.

If you were creating your own team of NFL players, but your QB had to be either JaMarcus Russel or Tarvaris Jackson, who would you choose?

I would go without a quarterback and run the wildcat. Every... single... play...

Jackson. He's at least competent enough to know that playing really badly and losing does not mean you played 'alright'. That's at least a building block to go off of.

Jackson is bad, but significantly better than Russel, who is nothing but a body builder with above average speed.

T-Jack career: 316/539 (58.6%), 21 TD, 18 INT. Not great.
J-Russ career: 330/639 (51.6%), 17 TD, 21 INT. Worse.

That's not counting the intangible JaMarcus factor that he just doesn't seem to know what he's doing, nor does he care.

Absolutely. Russell is an unmitigated disaster, but at least Jackson has shown a desire to improve himself. All you hear out of Jamarcus is, "Hey, where did Sanchez get that hot dog?"

You know I almost hope the Vikings win the Superbowl this year. I hope they win, and I hope that Favre passes for like 500 yards/6TD's in the game after Adrian Peterson has a career-ending knee injury on the first play of the game, is voted MVP, gets a blowjob at midfield from Heidi Klum while everyone (even Seal) applauds, and he just generally has the greatest day of his entire life, knowing that nothing he could possibly do could ever top this day. And of course he retires.

...And then the off season begins...

Favre is winning and having fun. He'll be back.

/Course, I said that in 2007 as well after he had a spectacular Packers season. Then they ran him out of town for losing the playoff game.
//Vikings won't do that. They know the alternative is not worth it.

Well, most of the time when an underqualified minority wants to replace an old white guy who's much better at the job, he just whines about racism and demands affirmative action. Doesn't T-Jack have Jesse Jackson's number?

I loved me some of the hefty lefty. His college games were awesome.... i remember one play when a LB got a free, full speed, direct hit on him. he pushed the guy down into the dirt and threw what i remember was a touchdown.

No-brainer. I'm taking the Battleship Lorenzen. The next time Russel does this: downfield blocking (new window) will be the first.

ihatedumbpeople: I wouldn't be surprised if he plays another 2-3 seasons the way he's playing now.

It depends on how the playoffs go, I imagine. I mean, I'm going out on a limb putting them in the playoffs when it isn't mathematically certain yet, but it's looking pretty solid that the Vikings make it to the playoffs.

Anyway, I imagine Favre will retire if:

1. Vikings face epic collapse in first round, Favre throws 3 picks in loss. Favre realizes he just isn't able to handle the "clutch" anymore and hangs it up.

2. Vikings reach the Superbowl and win. Favre puts up great numbers through the playoffs and sees it as a great place to stop to cement his legacy.

Favre sticks around if:

1. Vikings lose in the NFC Championship game to the Saints, who put up so many goddamn points that a team of Jesus and Robo-Ditka clones couldn't compete with. Favre thinks it just wasn't his year.

2. Vikings stumble early in the playoffs to a Green Bay team who barely sneak into the playoffs with a wild-card berth over a NFC East team.

Russel is in no way a Body builder. He had natural altheic ability and he kept somewhat in shape in college, but mostly just coasted.

In the NFL he's just turned fat. He's fat and he doesn't care. Who can blame him though, he get's some obscene amount of money if he does good or bad and if he plays his cards right he'll never have to work a day in his life again.

So he can satisfy his ego and have hours upon hours devoted by the media pontificating on whether or not he's returning. Each new "leak" by the Favre camp, be it a text or alerting the media that he'll be getting on a plane to Minnesota means he's the lead story on every sports show for the next two days.

Make no mistake about it, he's playing next year. Book it, done. But the odds of him retiring first still sit at roughly 75%. Maybe even higher.

I sincerely hope you're talking about the Giants-Broncos, right? Because the Lions-Packers and Raiders-Cowboys are both going to be absolute clunkers that will last years' games, the closest of which was 25 points (the others were 28 and 37) seem palatable.

LukeDJedi 2009-11-25 05:20:33 PM
You know what? Good. Keep that attitude TJ. Then watch the games and see why Brett Favre is in and you are not. Then spend every waking moment by his side learning from him. Truth be told, Brett just wants to win a Super Bowl so he can quit on a good note. Spend the rest of this entire season learning how to be half the quarterback he is and keep learning. I know you can get there, but you have to experience it first.

The reason Randy Moss was so good was because he learned from Cris Carter. Adrian Peterson was able to put up great numbers because he is talented, but he had great backup and some learning experiences from Chester Taylor. If you can, get Brett to write you a damn manual or something.

I know that Cowboys fans will be watching the Cowboys/Raiders game with much interest. The Raiders just beat the Bengals and are looking to have improved signifcantly with the removal of JMarc, while the Cowboys have been struggling offensively.

The Cowboys desperately need the game going into a tough stretch, and they are struggling on offense as of late. They are going up against a team that has been relying on a tough defense to get by in close games. It means a lot to the fans, and it means a lot to the NFC East playoff picture.

I was just giving you a hard time. As far as the game goes, I'll be happy if it's close, even if the Raiders are a putrid team and the Cowboys an average squad.

I don't see the Raiders going on the road and coming within two touchdowns, but you never know. Jason Garrett may be just what the Raiders need to stay in the game.

Agreed. Saints are averaging (Yes, AVERAGING) 37 points per game. Which is just... ungodly.

However, I'm uncertain about the superbowl. Besides the Saints, the Vikings really look amazing. And with young guys on the team (and Favre playing young), they look like they can be dominant for years. If Favre feels the same way (and thinks he himself can stay healthy), he'll come back regardless of the outcome.

Ie, if it's a hard-fought loss, come back next year and get the job done. If they win, come back and hope to repeat.

Very true. The only way to get over on the Packers is to win a Super Bowl as a Viking. The better way to do that is to win two.

If Al Davis hasn't given them enough reason to strip his power, nothing will except death.
