After the Cubs, the Twins are my team, thanks subby, looks like a nice park. Glad I have family in Bloomington to stay at when I go see a game up there.

Huzzah for real baseball played in the open air.

Not a Twins fan, but went to college in MN so a number of my friends are and usually catch a game or two up there when I can. This place will be a million times better to watch/enjoy baseball than the Cesspool Dome was.

Nice find subby Thanks!

consession?

It's awesome, as stadiums go.
But most Minnesotans? We know
Those first few at home
Not under a dome
Will likely be played in the snow.

What is wrong with walleye on a stick? Every beer garden I visited on my trip to Germany had fish on a stick right next to the giant (and oh so tasty) pretzel.

Gosling 2009-11-25 12:13:33 PM
Now if we can just do something about Tropicana we'll have everybody playing outdoors.

brap not particularly interesting but cheaper than a shrink autobiographical factoid #289

When I was knee-high to Billy Barty, brap Sr. used to pack up toddler brap and hot chocolate to go shiver and watch the Twins in their outdoor stadium.

Killebrew and Carew rhyme so I would make up songs about them, which I sang throughout the game, completely mortifying my poor father. Come to think of it pops spent most of my childhood with a "Do you know this kid? 'Cause I sure as hell don't" expression on his face.

Ever go to the Aug in Salzburg? Herring on a stick. Was tempted but didn't try it.

Isn't the dome in Toronto usually closed for the hell of it on most game days? I know Seattle, Houston and Milwaukee try to keep theirs open.

Walleye is some of the tastiest fish you'll eat as well, if prepared right. I can't really testify to "on a stick" but if it's in Minnesota I'll go ahead and assume it's battered and fried.

The link is from MN Public Radio. I think its a federal law that anyone on public radio has to have a voice that's the aural equivalent of Nytol.

Watched a game inside in Arizona myself. It was like 110 degrees out.

Unfortunately, the stadium would not allow Mrs. Greta Fedelsen to bring her famous Lake Trout & Wild Leek Bake to the game.

I liked everything I saw, except that "Fan Code of Conduct". I've been to dozens of stadiums in the U.S. and dozens of Twins games at the Metrodome. Twins fans are the most polite, welcoming and pleasant of any I've seen. There's no need to rub your patron's faces in YOUR contrived morality. Especially when your fans are paying for the stadium, because you're too cheap to crowbar open your rusty safe and take out some of the Pohlad billions made foreclosing on farms in the midwest.

/A's fan, btw.

True, but with Target Field, that now leaves only Rogers Centre and the Trop as the only venues still played on turf, which I consider to be a greater sin than whether or not there's a roof.

If there's a more apt example of 'a face made for radio' than Garrison Keillor, I haven't found it.

/unlike Diane Rehm, who has 'a voice made for newspaper'

This summer I went to Minnesota and caught some walleye. I battered and fried them. They were fantastic.

Also cooked up a few Northern. I didn't catch any perch this year, which is odd.

locutisOfMN 2009-11-25 02:29:14 PM
Don't forget it's right next to a garbage incinerator. That'll be nice on a hot summer day. It does look like a great stadium, you can't appreciate how awful the dome is unless you've been there.

Cataholic [TotalFark] 2009-11-25 02:30:18 PM
Walleye on a stick would be fantastic. Pike on a stick? Reminds me of my favorite Pike recipe. Place a filet on a cedar plank. Roast over open fire for 20 minutes. Throw away fish and eat plank.

Interesting how, in the code of conduct mentioned at the end, it notes that public displays of affection are not allowed. I'm guessing they won't have a Kiss Cam displayed on the scoreboard between certain innings?

I do. The only thing I don't like about the park is the Budweiser deck...sure wish Summit or Schell could have coughed up the cash to keep it local. Even a Premo is better than a Budweiser.

Love baseball stadium porn.

A few things:

The seats overhanging in right field (about 3:35 left). It looks like the fence is right up against the wall that's partially holding up the stands. I foresee a lot of controversies about fans in the front row reaching over and whether it would be a home run and whether a sharply hit line-drive ball cleared the fence or bounced off the wall behind. Why not have the wall 5-10 feet back from the actual fence, the stands would be even with the fence and any home runs would land there?

Absolutely love how the food is segregated by stands, keep that damn fish and its awful smell away from my calzone.

/My lawn, why are you still on it?
//Ballpark looks great
///Thanks Hennepin County taxpayers!
////Live in Los Angeles
///Better not try that "tax the peasants" thing with the NFL stadium
//No, really, don't try it, Ed Roski
/Slashies!

Some of those sight lines are terrible. Also what is the over-under for how many games the Twins will have to make up each year due to their games being snowed out?

Terrible idea to have an open air stadium up there.

If they can have one in Denver, they can have one in Minnie.

Except you know on average Denver is warmer in April than Minneapolis is.

Does that mean there won't be a stand with Surly at the park? Hell, they don't even have to send special packaging to avoid having glass bottles, it comes in cans already.

Better yet, a stand with Surly and Town Hall. I still want to see a stand at The Cell with Half Acre, Metropolitan and Three Floyds (they already have Goose Island drafts at some of the stands)

No it isn't. As I remember it, those freaks actually enjoy winter. And being stoicly miserable is a matter of pride, or at least it was, I haven't been back in ages.

I would have mentioned Surly, as I loooove the Furious, but they couldn't afford the deck out there.

The Twins played outside throughout the 60's and 70's...I think we'll be fine.

Oh, I know they're not big enough to sponsor something at a stadium (frankly, almost no craft brewery would have that kind of money). But if Bud has a big sponsorship, I was wondering if that would keep all other beers out. Which would pretty much suck. It's nice going to a park and being able to get a good local brew.

Looks like they used the same design firm as Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The similarities are striking.

both (like about half of the modern sports venues in this country) were designed by Populous (formerly HOK)

Seriously? I got my wallet stolen at the old Tiger Stadium. I've seen fights at the Coliseum, but only when the Yankees are in town, and the crowds are half and half.

As a Mets fan living in Marlins Country, I gotta say that that stadium looks pretty cool.

/been to Shea, Old Yankee Stadium and the stadium in Miami Gardens
//that last one changes its name every damn year - Dolphin Stadium, Dolphins Stadium (note the difference between the first one and this one - not a typo on my part), Joe Robbie Stadium, Pro Player Stadium, and this year it's Land Shark Stadium.
///wish they'd keep the current name, as it's the coolest
///have not yet been to Citi-Field or New Yankee Stadium
