Well, I'm going to sleep easier tonight knowing that the judiciary has solved all other problems in Canadian society and has nothing more important to do than set standards for golf dolts.

nirwana [TotalFark] 2009-11-25 11:10:50 AM
Damn activist judges.

jbuist [TotalFark] 2009-11-25 11:20:30 AM
So, you're out playing buddies with your golf, drinking beer, tequila, and smoking weed and one of their golf balls hits you.

1) How stupid do you have to be to not seeing that coming?
2) What kind of dick sues his friend?

hockeyfarker [TotalFark] 2009-11-25 11:21:13 AM
Some time after the wedding, Bezanson, a woodsman and father of three, sued Hayter for loss of income and damages due to the injury to his wrist.

First of all, a woodsman? seriously?

And second of all, this is basically the risk you take with bachelor party golf, and this man is a douche.

Civil_War2_Time [TotalFark] 2009-11-25 11:34:05 AM
I've lived this story...only without the cool last name, lawsuit, and pussy Canadian-French judge.

Civil_War2_Time: pussy Canadian-French judge

I doubt this is about the judge being some pussy French-Canadian. He's probably just one of those insufferable golf traditionalist squares who thinks drinking and smoking weed on the course is an affront to the Baby Hogan-Christ. Think Judge Smails.

/That said, I don't condone golf cart power slides.

gopher321 [TotalFark] 2009-11-25 12:10:49 PM
Well, if anyone would know golf, it's a judge.

Hender:

I pity America. Canada's colostomy bag. ;)

Oh, I know. It's not about the judge's ruling. I'm an avid golfer, and have been a bartender at two country clubs.

The shenanigans are for those golfing traditionalists, but only after-hours. Anyone not rich does not deserve the right to break the rules, let alone the law of the land. I've seen police "escorts" for completely sloshed members; driving Ferraris, Bentleys, Porsches, and other $100K+ cars. I'm talking stumbling drunk, too. Cops were paid $1000 for each member's guidance to their respective mansions near the course.

With all due respect to Mr. Sandler, my golfing friends and I would do that exact tee shot once every round back in the early '80s. And I'm sure other people could cite eleventy billion other and earlier examples going all the way back to Scottish shepherds whacking stones with bent walking sticks.

WHAT ???? We need a congressional hearing, laws passed, and .....(oh it's Canada) ...carry on ...

This judge should have made his ruling after relaxing with a solid nudie magazine day.

The video amazed me. I can't believe people can hit the ball running up to it. I have hard enough time hitting it standing still.

I'm sure the defendant had a liability policy and didn't give a shiat that his buddy was getting a payday. His insurance carrier is the one defending.

In other news: The Christian Science Monitor actually writes an article relevant to my interests.

pretty odd that they covered this story.

In fact, an episode of Sport Science recently tested the effectiveness of it (see video clip below).

David Clark Scott (article writer)... you are my hero if you watch sport science. I love that show.

/Color me 100% shocked that someone out there actually knew it was tested on sport science.

Sheila: Time's have changed
Our kids are kids are getting worse
They won't obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse!
Sharon: Should we blame the government?
Liane: Or blame society?
Dads: Or should we blame the images on TV?

Sheila: NO, blame Canada
Everyone: Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their beady little eyes
And flappin heads so full of lies
Everyone: Blame Canada
Blame Canada
Sheila: We need to form a full assault
Everyone: It's Canada's fault!

Sharon: Don't blame me
For my son Stan
He saw the darn cartoon
And now he's off to join the clan!

Liane: And my boy Eric once
Had my picture on his shelf
But now when I see him he tells me to fark myself!
Sheila: Well, blame Canada
Everyone: Blame Canada
It seems that everythings gone wrong
Since Canada came along
Everyone: Blame Canada
Blame Canada
Some Guy: There not even a real country anyway

Mrs. McCormick: My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer it's true
Instead he burned up like a piggy on a barbecue
Everyone: Should we blame the matches?
Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?
Sheila: Heck no!

Everyone: Blame Canada
Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their hockey hubbabbalooo
Liane: And that biatch Anne Murray too
Everyone: Blame Canada
Shame on Canada
The smut we must stop
The trash we must smash
Laughter and fun
must all be undone
We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before someone thinks of blaming uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuusss

"I am convinced that the "Happy Gilmore" shot," wrote Judge Le Blanc in his decision, "would have been less controllable than a normal tee shot, both because it involved a run-up to the ball (rather than an aimed shot from a stationary position) and because the defendant had been drinking throughout the day.

ANNNNNNNND there it is.

Sports Science sucks, they did a "test" of that crappy sportswear that buys all of their ad time. Funny, they discovered it's the greatest ever.

Possibly hatched the plot up together

1. Happy Gilmore when stoned and drunk
2. ???
3. Profit (shared equally)

Those guys were a bunch of dumbasses. How did they figure that 28 beers was going to be sufficient?

OF COURSE you're going to have to go for more when you start with an inadequate supply.

Treygreen13 2009-11-25 02:36:48 PM
The Sports Science thing is really very interesting. It says that the Happy Gilmore swing added 30 yards (on average) to the pro's drive.

He says at the end he'd do it more if he weren't so cautious. It just increases the chance to shank it too much.

russsssman 2009-11-25 02:38:23 PM
Hah! I bet this judge was beat by someone who used this swing... "I'll get you Gilmore-swing-lover-guy"

40below: Canada's pants.

FTFY

As in "Canada is pants."

And if you don't understand that last phrase, you are pants.

Let me explain. No, it would take too long. Let me sum up: (obscure?)

"Pants," in civilised countries, are underwear. Canada is a smelly dirty pair of underwear.

The expression you are looking for in this situation is "Eww!"

californiadiver 2009-11-25 02:39:30 PM
FTFA - "By this point, Hayter was sloshed enough to be practicing power slides in the golf cart, and "nearly drove into a pond," according to the court documents."

That sounds typical.

Oh and the fact that professional golfers hit the fairway only 60% of the time was a very interesting tidbit.

Cue a bunch of whiny Montrealers claiming that football was invented there, and that U.S. universities totally stole the idea, and that NFL football is invalid because they don't have a 55-yard-line.
