When I was a kid, there was a German immigrant family in the neighbourhood that almost burnt their house down doing exactly that.

It's not quite Thanksgiving yet, but the Christmas trees are already trying to kill old people us all.

This is clearly due to a lack of government regulation of holiday decorations! Obviously, the private corporation that put up the tree doesn't care about its customers... in fact, private corporations profit by killing and maiming their customers. We can expect more tragedies like this as long as profit-seeking companies run the holiday decorations industry. If the government had been in charge of holiday decorations, this would have never happened!

When I was a kid in Germany my dad would go out the morning of Christmas eve and cut down a tree. He would bring it home and make it perfect by cutting a branch here or there, drill a hole in the trunk to replace a branch and make it look more balanced. We would decorate it and light the candles that night only. You could not light it on fire if you tried it was so green and wet. No one had a tree up in the middle of November thru early January. When we came here and there was no place to cut a tree down in a forest he said no more candle on the tree.
