Lets hope it's good 3d and that the dvd will come with the option to turn it off.
I don't think I have ever seen a movie that wasn't ruined by the 3d gimmick. Of course, times makes fools of us all.

Eh. Zombieland didn't need a sequel. If it does actually come out, though, I really hope it's given as much attention as the first.

Cloverfield, too, was perfect where it was. Didn't need some prequel explaining the mystery away or some dumb action flick or anything else. But there they are with that whole "WE MADED MONMEY LETS MAKE ANODER"

Hated it, walked out. Nothing against zombies, but rather just the Michael Cera knockoff. That kid is a poor mans Michael Cera, which is a shiattier taste of shiat.

What are either of these guys gonna do when they cant play awkward teenagers anymore? Awkward adults? Weak.

Cera is a jackass that has played the same role since Superbad. The guy in this movie, Eisenberg, has played similar dudes in this and in Adventureland, but they were similar guys in completely different situations, where as Cera is the same guy in the same situation. Plus, Eisenberg doesn't have the same number of movies that Cera has, so there is hope that he'll become more than a one trick pony.

Also, why you would walk out of this movie is beyond me. If a movie is good enough (which this one certainly is) you get over an actor you might not like and still enjoy the movie.

And as far as the future holds? Cera will probably crash and burn, but Eisenberg will probably keep going.

I've heard from A/V experts that since more and more people have home theater systems, 3D is the last gimmick the movie makers have for now to try to get you into the theater. I guess it's been working for children's movies but I don't see it helping Zombie movies.

FeedTheCollapse 2009-11-25 11:50:29 AM
though I haven't seen any live action flicks in 3D, the 3D for animated flicks has generally been good and not gimmicky. The 3D adds more of a visual depth rather than the "WHOA WATCH OUT FOR THIS shiat WE POINTED TOWARDS THE CAMERA! IT'S COMING RIGHT AT YOU MOTHERfarkER!" of the 1950s. So I'm not really getting the biatching about 3D.

that said, Zombieland does not need a sequel.

They'll probably star in a reboot of Two and a Half Men.

The first 10 minutes of the film I was trying to figure out if that was Michael Cera or not. But yeah, I enjoyed it anyway.

I can't tell if Emma Stone is really that hot or if the fact that she has hooked up with geeky guys in a couple movies makes her hot and gives me the feeling that I have a shot with her.

I'll probably need a lot more pictures to figure out this mystery.

Zombieland was a trite piece of crap. I thought comedies were supposed to be funny. Even the supposedly hilarious cameo was lame and disappointing.

Can you also not tell the difference between LEonardo Dicaprio and Matt Damon? Because that's another comparison people make that I've never understood. Micheal Cera plays "Micheal Cera" in everything since Arrested Development. It's hilarious sometimes, like in Superbad, and horrible in others, like Year One.

Micheal Cera would have ruined Zombieland. Eisenberg might have played a few similar characters in Adventureland and Zombieland, but at least they were characters rather than him just playing "Jessie Eisenberg". I think he'll be around much longer than Cera.

The trailer made me think it would be an over-the-top zombie comedy, ala Shaun of the Dead. What I got instead was an awkward teen comedy with about three zombie scenes. It was alright, but not at all what it should have been.

It flipped the genre ENTIRELY on its head. It's an anti-Romero zombie movie. It did a lot more different things with the genre than Shaun, IMO.

Although i didn't exactly like it flipping the genre on its head. I like Romero's depressing endings.

I'm not sure that's Cera's fault though. He's really really typecast. It's not like he's cast to play people who don't act like awkward teenagers and still plays "himself." He gets cast as awkward adolescent types because that's what he's known for.

While technically a zombie movie, it actually is a awkward love comedy that just happens to be set in a zombie universe. Thats the best part of the movie.... its pretty unique in its setting, style, and how well it was executed given the elements used.

With the spread of 5.1/7.1 home audio systems, HD 16:10 tvs and projectors,etc.. the trade offs between the theater and seeing the movie at home have come to side with watching it at home. With the new 3D technology the theaters are trying to do home theaters. Everyone keeps talking about Avatar as a tech gimmick, and it is, but that's the point.

The question is will this feature move beyond gimmick or stay at the level of IMAX? Will smell-o-vision make a came back?

---

as for Zombieland 2, Why? you made a great movie that I really cannot see having room for a sequel.

Oekss: What the fark is with the obsession with making everything 3D suddenly? STOP IT!

People will go to the movies to see a new 3-D movie. They'll even pay extra. Coraline was really cool to watch in the theater in 3-D. It definitely lost some luster on the DVD at home. The home version of the 3-D was just crap, so it was better to watch it in 2-D.

More than that. It was a buddy film with Columbus and Tallahassee (and Little Rock and Wichita), and set up Zombieland 2 to have a pseudo-family feeling.

SPOILER BELOW!!

You know what I loved most about Zombieland?
It didn't end up a cliche.
Shaun of the Dead is great, but in the end, it goes south. Best friend dies, guy gets girl, blah, blah, blah.
When Woody locks himself up in the cage I thought "Annndd here's where the hero dies."
I was SO glad they broke that mold.

Ecliptic 2009-11-25 01:01:42 PM
OtherLittleGuy: Shaun of the Dead

...was true to classic zombie form in that the survivors act like idiots. They stay in the city... they leave their second floor apartment with several lockable doors and enough food for a few days to go to a ground level building filled with windows and doors... it's a funny movie but it pisses me off.

Also Shaun of the Dead exists in a universe where the outbreak is local and if they just hung out for a few days they'd be rescued by the army (and are eventually - making pretty much the entire survival suspense factor of the movie pointless). Unlike Zombieland where its worldwide and everyone and all of civilization has broken down.

Zombieland reminded me of L4D ... but with hot chicks and funny jokes :-)

I reserve judgment on live-action 3D potential until Avatar comes out.

IdBeCrazyIf [TotalFark] 2009-11-25 01:09:33 PM
Ecliptic: I reserve judgment on live-action 3D potential until Avatar comes out.

Its annoying because behind all the hype of Avatar it really is nothing more than a technical experiment.

Someone needs to tell the studios that Cameron is not to films as Carmack is to games. Technical experimentation and stretching technology is great when you'll have a chance at at least breaking even.
