If you are even thinking of playing suduko to lose weight, you have way too sedentary a ilfestyle.

I was pretty sure I was absorbing calories while doing those puzzles, especially sitting in direct sunlight. Too long and I'll become photosynthetic.

What's a jammy dodger?

Courtney Cox-Zucker 2009-11-25 12:57:08 AM
I so wish my brain could work that way. I've tried to get into the Sudoko craze, but can't get into it. Give me a dozen crossword puzzles, though, and I'm good to go.

/math is hard

There is no math in traditional Sudoku...
You're just making sure there's not a repeat number in any row, column or box.

/Those damn number crosswords on the other hand...math is definitely hard.

It probably takes a few more calories for me, since I tend to throw it across the room several times, then retrieve it, shake my fist at it, break pencils, and then rip up the paper.

I can't finish a Sodoku puzzle in 24 minutes!

poxic 2009-11-25 02:58:55 AM
Oddly enough, sitting in a chair and staring at a wall will also burn about 90 calories an hour.

/the wall-staring diet! Get in while it's hot!

How can you burn 90 calories while taking in a 400+ calorie mocha farkalatte at Starbucks?

Do you have anything easier?

This will burn more calories, lifting the heavy Calculus book off of your shelf.

Who takes an hour to do a sudoku puzzle?
Or are they sitting there doing a bunch in a row (ie have nothing better to do - like post on online chat boards)?

/15 min for most, 30 for hard ones, and I'm NotARocketScientist

Captain Swoop 2009-11-25 03:30:04 AM
that would be about 10 calories more than average for what you burn while sound asleep.

make sure you wear sweats while doing your puzzle.

Crimping off a firm stool whilst reading the back of a shampoo bottle = 95 calories p/h

Vigorous onanism followed by baby walking to the other side of the room with your trousers round your ankles to get some toilet tissue = 102 calories p/h

Spousal abuse = 125 calories p/h

I workout daily by using my brain to process thoughts throughout the day.

I read Fark when I want to relax and take a break from working out.

MorningBreath: If you are even thinking of playing suduko to lose weight, you have way too sedentary a ilfestyle.

Actually, they specifically state in the article that you CANNOT lose body fat by exercising your brain. It only burns glucose and available calories, not fat. Of course, those with such a sedentary lifestyle that they would consider this 'exercise' probably won't pay attention to that anyway.

Yeah, that's about my speed. A friend of mine can do a 'hard' sudoku in 10 minutes, though. She's not a rocket scientist, but she is a geologist.

And if you're thinking about taking up sleeping, or sudoku, or any similar form of exercise, please consult your doctor first.

crap like this (and the people that believe it) are the reason there are lots of Tubbs in this world.

I like being lazy, but I'm smart enough to know that my longevity and appearance are effected by me sitting on my ass cramming food in my mouth. The people that refuse to get off their ass every once and a while deserve my (and everyone) full ridicule.

farkingismybusiness 2009-11-25 05:01:33 AM
Does that mean the more I fark the more jammy dodgers I can eat? Oh Boy!

I burn more calories then that by dancing and singing in my underwear to old Jade songs.

From TFA: The brain is made up of millions of nerve cells called neurons which transmit messages to the body, he explained.

He explained? Was there confusion over this?

Does Ric Romero have relatives in England?

How many questions can Sgt. Pecker ask instead of making a worthwhile comment?

amazing, since the act of being alive burns 100 per hour. guess sudoku actually turns your brain off

Dude. I feel like stabbing myself in the eye if one puzzle takes more than 4 minutes. I occasionally do 3 or 4 in a row. I cannot imagine doing 15.

flyingmonkeysreign 2009-11-25 07:16:14 AM
I'd say more about this but I have to be doing a Sudoku puzzle in 26 minutes.

/Seriously, why do I not have a superman chest yet?

I burn 73 calories an hour sleeping. Can I get those jammy dodgers through an IV?

Two vanilla biscuits with a strawberry jam filling.

I'm pretty sure I'd burn more calories than that in a day if I never got out of bed.

Yeah, but this is JUST your brain. The rest of your body uses even more calories to function... like heart beats, breathing, and digestion.

I learned how to do Sudoku using a flash game that used symbols rather than numbers- no matching stars, squares, triangles, etc, in a row or square. So, I learned it as the logic puzzle that it is, and not the evil, evil math puzzle that it seems to be.
