And they would honor the 1986 team by signing a hobbled first baseman.

Yes, and the Titanic would have benefitted from a rearrangement of the deck furniture.

Dammit.

The only thing they did was change the color of the base fabric from "white" to "as blindingly white as can be without being white." GET THOSE WALLETS OUT METS FANS!

Those are the new ones? Why did they leave on the black drop-shadow? I'd figured they would rip off the Phillies and actually bring back the faded-cream color and more retro-looking script. WTG Mets.

Because they're the Mets. God forbid they turn their back on 1998's hottest uniform trend when designing jerseys that are supposed to evoke the 1960s.

Do we really have to have a choke theme to everything the Mets do? They choked in 07, and kind of in 08 (it was really more of a great run to get back into it that fell short). That's it. Other than that, they've been a fairly bad team that's been okay at time. Like most of the league.

I thought the Tigers had taken the choke title.

I remember trying to get a Keith Hernandez jersey after the '86 Series.
There was a line out the door.
Then Darryl Strawberry, and Doc Gooden walked by and snorted it.

Wake me when they kill that hideous drop shadow. Until then, who cares?

That's different somehow? Though I'm not complaining, anything that involves the more traditional blue and orange is fine by me. I'd like to see them go back to blue hats on the road, but I guess they need merch to sell.

Completely agree. Though the 2007 choke was so bad that I can kind of understand people bringing it up all the time. But '08 was more about the Phils playing out of their minds down the stretch. The Mets did ok but it wasn't enough given the tear Philly was on.

No, they actually changed the color from white to cream. That's it. They're basically the same pinstripe uniforms the team has been wearing, just now in cream.

They need to get rid of the black ones. They're terrible.

The pinstripe ones are my favorites. The white and gray ones are OK. The black ones need to go.

Wear all the goofy uniforms on the road. But PLEASE just wear the pinstripes at every home game.

Old, stupid, blah jerseys:

Brand new, farking awesome, go and buy 12 of them jerseys:

/Only the farking Mets.
//Why do I get excited about stupid things like this, when I know they will only fark it up? I thought they finally "got it" and would go to a nice classic jersey, and they bring in this jersey that would look exactly the farking same as the pinstripe one from last year if the players didn't wash them for a couple days. This farking team does absolutely nothing right and it starts with stupid shiat like jersey designs.

This is all they should be wearing. No drop shadows, black jerseys, or ice cream man uniforms.

"New York will establish a Mets Hall of Fame and Museum next to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda behind home plate, paint stairwells in the team's colors of orange and blue add team logos and put up banners of players."

The well-documented fact that they didn't do this in the first place will never cease to amaze me.

haplo53: Uniwatchblog has a great take on this. (new window)

Wow, that was perfect and I couldn't agree more.

It seems really stupid to get angry at a little thing like this, but it really just shows how terrible the decision makers are at making decisions. To hype up a "jersey change" like this then to issue a press release to only come out with almost the exact same jersey as last year is a joke.

And all the "changes" to the stadium were obvious to every Mets fan from the beginning, but instead the Wilpons were more worried about squeezing 10 more ads in the outfield. Look at the Twins new stadium, there is no doubt the Twins play there and their new uniforms are real retro-inspired uniforms, not this shiat.

That is an organization that puts some thought into every move and actually makes it seem like they care about the fans and not just their wallets.

Am I the only Mets fan that wasn't that upset about the stuff in Citi Field? Everyone seemed to lose their shiat over it. I didn't think it was a huge deal.

i was a little mad about it. Granted Robinson should have been given tribute. His importance to the game and america is paramount. But..did it have to be inside citi field? A nice little picnic area like Shea had with a Robinson memorial be classy and a great place to have a sandwhich before the game in the shade.

needed more Shea on stadium too. and more Keith Hernandez and Todd Pratt,Benny Agbayani, Edgardo Alfonzo, Shawn Green, Mike Piazza, and John Franco.

Less Sandy Koufax, Duke Snyder, and gill hodges.

GoteamVenture: p.s. why am i still a mets fan?

Because like most Mets fans (myself included), you've got too much integrity and loyalty to walk away. Unfortunately that's exactly what the Wilpons count on. They know real fans aren't going to quit following the team if the uniforms suck, so they're going to design their uniforms with casual or even non-fans in mind (which is probably how black got introduced into the team color scheme in the first place). If fanbois end up buying the jersey too, all the better for the Wilpons.

I thought it was weird and unusual, and I agree there should be more Mets and less Dodgers (though I had no problem with the Jackie Robinson thing. He's that big of a deal). But while I didn't love it, it also didn't bother me too much.

Everyone else seemed absolutely outraged.

Last year I wasn't upset at all and I loved the place. But then I saw pictures of the Twins new stadium and all the thought and effort put into every inch of it just made me see how much the Mets management didn't care about Citi Field outside of how much money they would make on it.

You could say the same thing about Citi Field as you can the team. With the amount of money they spent on it, it should have been something really special. But because no real effort was made, it is nothing more than mediocre.

It has issues. But unlike most Mets fans for some reason, I'm willing to give them a few years to sort the kinks out. Shea went through different incarnations with regard to surface features. Those neon dudes on the outside weren't always there, for example.
