Well what happened was that someone wrote down a higher amount of gold that existed, creating the illusion of a decrease in wealth, thus making the Canadian people pony-up the difference...you know like our monetary system does.

Junior Transport Minister Rob Merrifield, responsible for the Crown corporation, announced in the House of Commons Tuesday that an RCMP investigation has concluded, "there was no theft from the mint. An external review has gone on that provides an explanation of the unaccounted for gold."

In other words, they should probably check out the RCMP.

No theft? Well... probably not physical theft, Gold, while it does have a high value to weight ratio, is a little heavy to move in those amounts. But theft is easier with a pen than with a crowbar.
