On September 10th, 2001 Donald Rumsfeld announced that the Dept. of Defense had lost 2.3 TRILLION dollars, that's US dollars.

bet you never heard that before.

something happened the day after that buried that story.

Well what happened was that someone wrote down a higher amount of gold that existed, creating the illusion of a decrease in wealth, thus making the Canadian people pony-up the difference...you know like our monetary system does.

Junior Transport Minister Rob Merrifield, responsible for the Crown corporation, announced in the House of Commons Tuesday that an RCMP investigation has concluded, "there was no theft from the mint. An external review has gone on that provides an explanation of the unaccounted for gold."

In other words, they should probably check out the RCMP.

//even a million in gold is plenty incentive to lie in an investigation. Possibly a solid gold turd, studded with jewels..

If enough people with the right jobs wanted to, they could do it, and not be caught for a while. The mint makes coins. They steal gold, replacing it with other metals for making coins. So The Public would end up with gold coins containing less than the stated amount of gold.

He also mentioned the Forensic accountants were sending a package over to the Auditor General to look at.....

Sheila's been a royal pain to the PMO, so maybe the package is the gold a retirement incentive?

Until someone decides to check some coins by comparing their weight with their volume. I think that probably happens a lot actually.

Yes, but luckily Canadians never have to worry about fixing the gross incompetence. All you have to do is convince Canadians that the U.S. is more incompetent, and then Canadians will feel smug and stop worrying about the problem.

Police are ruling out theft for $15.3 million in gold missing from the Royal Canadian Mint, though the mint isn't yet ready to say what happened to the fortune or whether it has been recovered.

Ah, well if the mint isn't ready then by all means the mint shouldn't have to tell us where our 13million went.

It happens frequently enough that people took a look at the periodic table and discovered that tungsten (new window) has almost the same density as gold.

No theft? Well... probably not physical theft, Gold, while it does have a high value to weight ratio, is a little heavy to move in those amounts. But theft is easier with a pen than with a crowbar.

"Where are the gold bars you were supposed to pull out of that bank vault with your trans-matter ray? Obviously it failed or it would be in the papers."

Well no, there not going to say anything in the press. But BEHOLD! Transported from there to... here.

The molecules tend to... shift in the trans-matter... um... event, but, they were transported IN BAR FORM and they clearly were...

And by the way it's not about making money. It's about TAKING money. Destroying the status-quo because the "status" is NOT "quo". The world is a mess and I just need to RULE it.

I'm gonna... that smells like cumin.

Boy you are stupid. The speech does not say that 2.3T is missing.

He said that 2.3T in transactions could not be tracked, in reference to accounting in the entire antiquated system at the time.

You conspiracy nuts are off the deep end sometimes.

DUMMY. We used that to build the gigantic space battleship that fought off the Gou'ld, later the Ori and even the Wraithe. Saved the whole freakin' Earth. And are you saying we shouldn't have saved the Earth?

NO. You're just pissy because YOU can't get proper paperwork on the 2.3T spent on it. What are you, a freakin superaccountant? If we DID hand over the accounting paperwork in question you're all worked up about not having, it'd weigh over 1300 lbs, and all you would be able to do with it is heat your house.
