Then if I was Dan snyder I'd hire John Fox. The guy is a good coach. It seems to me that a lot of these coaches take all the blame for the GMs bad decisions.

They also take credit for good play-calling and QBing (I'm looking at you Dungy).

The sad situation is Ralph apparently wants to pay the money but Buffalo's too much of a mess so any proven coach will just use him as leverage to go somewhere else.

tnpir: Has the Mike Shanahan to Buffalo rumor died yet?

Considering that Shanahan is actually going to be interviewing with Buffalo, I'd say the answer is "no."

I don't know how you can knock the Bills for finally trying to get a quality, experienced, veteran head coach.

I'm glad that Ralph has finally realized that the Bills need a complete top-to-bottom overhaul, and I hope he's serious about it. The next step is to install a real football guy as GM and get that marketing guy (Russ Brandon) out of there and into a different position.

Then it will take about 2-3 years of serious rebuild (the Bills need help at many positions and need to turn over most of the current roster). But that's the only way that this team is ever going to be a competitive playoff team again, and break out of this decade-long funk of mediocrity.

It would be a good choice. Most of the coaching issues in Carolina are coordinator problems, not the head coach.

I'm not knocking the Bills at all. As a lifelong Bronco fan and great admirer of Shanahan's, I think trying to land him is the smartest thing that franchise has done since Marv Levy retired. Getting a coach like Shanahan is a very smart move if they can pull it off.

MostNutsEver 2009-11-24 03:27:52 PM
While I would agree that coaching problems are the play calling more so than John Fox, he's pretty much tied to Marty Hurney, the Panthers GM. And everyone has known that inability to develop any quarterback behind Jake is why this is a sub .500 team.

It seems like they have some personnel issues too. Delhomme doesn't have a viable alternative and I don't see a legit 2nd option at WR. I don't know if I'd have Steve Smith as the primary WR either. He is too short. I think I'd take a taller guy and use him as the primary WR and Smith as a deep threat home runner. I also see a big hole at defensive tackle.

FTFA: Cowher, now an analyst for CBS, intends to wait until after the season before considering any potential return to coaching

He didn't definitely say he wasn't going to Buffalo, he said he wasn't going any where and will wait until the end of the season to decide.

Also: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4683887
"he's not interested in interviewing for the job at this time, a source said Monday."

And:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d81471061&template=with-video-with-comm e nts&confirm=true
"Cowher informed the Bills that he isn't interested in speaking to any teams about potential jobs until after the season"

So he may still come to Buffalo.

But probably not.

I think they interview the New Mexico Governor for posterity's sake and then hire the best available white guy.

The Bills have a black head coach now (albeit interim), so that should fulfill said requirement, if it still exists.

This. Buffalo will not be able to land any of the top tier coaches that will be available and will have to settle for hiring an also-ran. Maybe, if their lucky, they can get Wade back once the Cowboys get who the Bills would've liked.

Roger Arseways: The sad situation is Ralph apparently wants to pay the money but Buffalo's too much of a mess so any proven coach will just use him as leverage to go somewhere else.

Yeah, it's a Catch-22.

Proven, experienced coaches and star players don't want to come to Buffalo because the Bills are a mess of a team with a history of losing.

In order to attract that type of talent, the Bills would need to be a more attractive team to come and work for, which means that they'd have to be less of a mess and have a better team with better prospects of winning in the future.

But in order to become a better team, they'd need better talent and coaching and management.

Return to step 1.

Roger Arseways://LET'S GO SABRES!

Yeah, it's been a bad week for the Sabres too. 0-2-1, and dropped out of first in the Northeast. And god, I hate losing to Ottawa it seems like every single time we play them in the regular season.

Hopefully this week goes better than last.
