Thin is very much in, this year in Auschwitz. A gaggle of enviously thin models strutted their stuff while highlighting the latest fashion. This year, function rules the day over form, with black and gray striped tops AND bottoms getting all of the attention. Some models topped it off with a matching hat, while others featured workman's accessories such as shovels and hammers

from the guardian

When it initially opened in 2005, the architect of the Holocaust memorial, Peter Eisenman, created a stir by suggesting that visitors to the site should be allowed to picnic on the stones, and use it as a thoroughfare, enabling it to be integrated into the city's infrastructure.
yeah, i can see that not going over very well

Good point. We'll have no improvised weapons here. Guards! Confiscate their knees!

Most runway models look like they were just liberated from a camp, so maybe this fits after all.

It's only offensive if they use plus sized models & food.

The Holocaust memorial in Berlin is AMAZING. Seriously. It's perfect.

However, it's obviously not the venue for something like this.

Throw on some gray, tattered work overalls and the models could be real life displays of Holocaust victims...

I used to live in Berlin, and it always bugged me to see people do that. I once witnessed two young guys using the stones to hone their Parkour skills. I wasn't outraged, just slightly offended. For some reason it stung a bit.

I didn't know Eisenman encouraged that sort of conduct, but it's hardly an excuse.

There's a lot of reason why people don't equate brains to the fashion industry. This is one of them.

I have mixed feelings about stuff like this. I was in Majdanek, possibly the most emotionally powerful of the camps/museums, and there were people having a picnic, and a kid flying a kite on the grounds. At first I was more than a little offended, but as I thought about it I became more conflicted. The day was absolutely gorgeous, 70's, sunny, and not humid, and a large part of the grounds are just open fields, how can you expect people who live nearby NOT to use the fields. How can we demand that they be sad all the time? Basically as long as they are respectful of those who are there with more serious purpose I am okay with them using the space as they see fit.

/I know, cool story and all that.
