Being shot by a guy in a wheelchair hurts as much as being shot by a guy not in a wheelchair. OTOH, how does a guy in a wheelchair get his hands on one of the deputies' guns?

Anyone remember that stupid movie from the 80's. Where these people were trapped in this ghetto apartment building. They encountered one of the residents, some burnt out vietnam vet in a wheel chair. He was played by the guy from Air Wolf. He rigged his wheel chair with a hidden gun/knife launcher. If I ever become wheel chaired bound, I'm going to make something like that and put those blades you see on war chariots on the side of the wheels and mow people down.

I assume they were trying to manhandle him or were in otherwise in close proximity to him and he just grabbed it.

Yeah, okay, lots of sympathy for the cripple.
But how about this little gem - the chances of getting shot by a Texas Ranger drop dramatically when you don't steal their sidearms.

Just sayin'.

No charges are expected to be laid against a Texas Ranger who reportedly shot and killed a popular New Brunswick singer-songwriter in his wheelchair in Fort Stockton, Texas, on Friday.

According to local reports, Thomas Reid, 38, a native of Frederickton, N.B., was arrested in Fort Stockton for a case of apparent road rage. When he was released from jail Friday, he was put up in an area hotel to await family to pick him up.

Police say they were called back to the hotel three hours later for a disturbance, and Reid ended up getting in a scuffle with two Texas Ranger deputies in the hotel parking lot. During the fight, Reid allegedly managed to get a hold of one of the deputies' guns and fired a shot into a nearby wall. Police say when he turned the gun on them, he was shot and killed by the other deputy.

I might be going out on a limb here, but I'm going to guess that he was a country singer.

He was shot by a Pecos County Deputy, not a Texas Ranger. The Texas Rangers are the investigating body.

Chuck Norris frowns on their shenanigans, they should kill themselves before he decides they are worth his effort. Of course he'll just command god to bring them back to life and kick their asses all the harder for it, but it will be entertaining for the rest of us...

`Depities' underestimated the nuisance value of the `handicapped' wheel chair bound bozo. Got too close `he won't be any trouble, he's in a wheelchair'.

The smart move would have been to use a couple of pairs of handcuffs, or chain, through the spokes of the chair, then back off to the cruiser and have a couple donuts until the guy calmed down or tried to crawl away.

What would your solution be to somebody taking a firearm and fire off shots then pointing it at the officers?

Ask him politely to stop? Offer him some Poutine?

There's nothing "independent" about the proposed investigation.
It might very well have been a justified shooting, but any ruling that comes will be like the call of a hometown ref.

Major points lost by Ranger for being disarmed.
That said, when you fire one shot, then point the gun at another man with a gun, expect to kill or die.
Looks like the song writer chose die.
Was probably planning to write song about being gunned down by Ranger....logic fail=song writer.
