Brian Becker was one of the protesters arrested and detained for hours who told Fox 5 the message from the settlement is not about money-- it is all about constitutional rights.

We look forward to the follow up story where these freedom loving protesters donate their settlements to worthy causes.

TFA On average, the maximum payment to each person will be $18,000.

WTF does that mean? Will the average payment be $18K, or will the maximum be $18K?

I think it means that about 193 percent of the baggers will receive $18,000. That's nearly half. I think this remark from the comment section in TFA sums it up nicely:

it not being bout the money doesn't mean you don't take the money cause there one funny thing about time you don't get it back so no one who hasn't commit a crime should waste a sec in jail

So, you see, the baggers accidentally the whole thing. It not being bout money cause there one funny thing about time. You don't get it back. I repeat, you do NOT get it back. As a result, maximum minimum average most middle median $18,000 - American, cash money, son.

Those jackholes don't just protest. They fark up traffic, antagonize cops, damage property and as all-around douchenozzles. I love the "peaceful protestors" that show up with their faces covered. Not at all a sign that you're about to tear shiat up. Most of them don't even know what they're protesting, they just want to break stuff.

/Lived in Santa Cruz Ca and worked at UCSC
//Protestors would show up holding babies so they could accuse the cops of child abuse when they got arrested.

I'd much rather be falsely abused than truly abused.

Ah, Fox News, once again raising the bar for truly awful journalism.

Man, the government is sure spending a lot of money on these people. Not to mention all the money spent on the trial. If only someone would stand up against wasteful government spending! Maybe start a protest of some sort?

you're right, it's NOT a sign they're going to tear shiat up

remember all those anti-scientology protests where the people wore Guy Fawkes masks to protect their ident from the Church of Scientology' "Fair Play" attack dogs?

and they didn't destroy anything either

so yeah

STFU with your moronic assumptions.

Wrong! The tax payers will pay the $13M and the politicians who perpetrated the acts will go on as before. There ought to be some personal consequences for those who abuse people like this.

No kidding. I'd rather have traffic tied up and be inconvenienced by people standing up for the equality of everyone than spend 5 minutes reading the whinings of self-centered Fark idiots. What a bunch of d-bags.

Hey idiots: Democracy and human rights are messing things! America wasn't just birthed without a struggle, and fighting for human rights usually involves assembly of some sort. Really...it can't be done on the internet.

The interesting question is: Why were all police departments around the country going militant at the same time? The Portland Police turned into jack-booted thugs almost overnight. It was finally scaled back when a former police chief and long-time Portland resident (Tom Potter) became mayor and forced the police department to go back to community policing. After that, all protests were handled very well - the way the USED to be handled in Portland.

vvelvenvv 2009-11-24 11:56:12 AM
Yeah... @glenlivid... Assembly works until the Internet driven drones show up and waste everyone since they are all in one spot...

thetubameister 2009-11-24 12:10:34 PM
Where's the hero tag?

However, it's sad taxpayers have to pay - more fair would be to arrest everyone involved in the arrests and jail them for a bit. Maybe up to and including the mayor at the time. Then bill 'em. Otherwise, they could care less about their actions.

1/2 fair. But good for them standing up for their rights. About to start som shiat? Gotta wait for them to actually do it - otherwise it's peacful assembly.

JohanW 2009-11-24 12:49:43 PM
That's step 1 - step 2 is putting all the people responsible for their arrest in jail.

FatesWebb 2009-11-24 04:25:20 PM
amazing how so many people on here including the poster, do not fancy their own rights to freedom of speech, and to peacefully assemble, but will get on here and give their 2 cents as if anyone really cared what their opinion was.

Lenin 2009-11-24 06:41:38 PM
Hey, I've only heard the phrase "jack-booted thugs" used twice so far! I'm proud of you guys! You're normally into the tired Orwellian phrases thirty seconds after the post.

My dad was a protester circa Vietnam. He got back and didn't agree with the way Veterans were being treated, wasn't a huge fan of the fledgling VA system at that time. Before he went to protest, he ALWAYS brought two things: a hard hat and bail money. I have a buncha pictures of him in a stolen union hard hat in D.C.

Now he's a real estate appraiser. Go figure.

I remember that. One moment we had officers and even the chief of police (Moose?) doing stuff like actually riding with Critical Mass. The next moment they were arresting them for traffic violations after we hired that dick from LA when Moose left. It was a huge shock.

ozone: On aver

Perhaps the maximum payment is different for each person, and $18,000 is the average of the maximums?

If the maximum is $18k for everyone, $18k would still be the average of the maximums, but stating it that way would be...odd.
