Then what were those big red circular things he was tossing off the field? They weren't beer cups.

Why would they do that? It's as if the two teams or countries don't like each other or something.

I guess the only thing worse than a Turkish prison is a Turkish corner kick.

Flags, I assume from a tifo.

The Fenerbahçe/Galatasaray derby is pretty much one of the most intense in the world, firmly in the top 5 of my "matches I want to see before I die" list.

When Figo came to the Camp Nou with Real Madrid in 2002, someone actually threw a whole pig's head at him.

I assume they don't pay $8 for a beer at these games.

skinink 2009-11-24 08:43:50 AM

The beers must be pretty cheap if so many people can toss them away.

I thought only American sportsfans were classless, and I'm surprised the refs just didn't forfeit the game to the other team. If your fans can't behave, then you shouldn't win.

Jazman 2009-11-24 08:44:16 AM
You'd never see that at a North American game... e.g. Toronto FC. Beer costs $12 per! No-one would throw those.

ha-ha-guy [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-11-24 08:47:15 AM
So they have riot police there and everything. Why not just send them up into the stands to grab a few people as an object lesson?

Bill_Z_Bub 2009-11-24 08:49:35 AM
I doubt they were beers... well at least not first hand beers

Stay classy, Galatasaray.

At least there were no stabbings (new window) in the buildup...

US sports fans probably have the most class in the world.

You've seriously have never heard the term "soccer riot" or hooligan in your life?

Compared to football fans? American sportsfans might as well be wearing monocles and tophats.

Why would you ever sell anything in a glass bottle at a stadium, regardless of the sport. Have they never heard of plastic over there?

That was almost 10 years ago. The fun place to play this year is Belgrade(pop)

Can't blame the fans, soccer is fairly boring to watch so you have to make your own fun. If I wasn't in my companies box every game drinking free booze I might crack and start throwing shiat at people too.

Nah, its the lack of free booze that makes me crack and troll the schmucks that enjoy kickball.

All I saw was Galatasaray vs. Fenerbahce, and the video seemed way too tame.

US sports just don't compare to this level of passion. Link (Not a Rick Roll, can't believe I still have to put that at the end of a link still)

I don't care if that's normal practise for a European football match, that player who just walked calmly through it all had huge balls.

TonnageVT: US sports just don't compare to this level of passion.

Thats because we have to split it up between NFL, College Football, Basketball, College Basketball, Baseball and maybe some filler sport like NHL. Can't devote all that emotion to just one sport.

Whereas not much else to do in Turkey except go to the beach and hang out with Russians.

why do they still play the sport anymore?
Since americans do not understand the game it would not be such a global-loss.
and we would not have to put up with these videos and threads that take up our internets time.

Don't give a shiat about =/= don't understand.

Most of us played as kids.

It's not a complicated sport.

WireFire2 2009-11-24 10:56:35 AM
Maybe if anyone had any brains they wouldn't sell beer in bottles or cans and make it cost $6 bucks a cup they wouldn't be so inclined to throw it away.

Oh, right, playing a sport as a kid means you have total understanding. The strategy and tactics of the NFL are no more complicated than those in Pop Warner.

Well I'd say the jump in complexity from a highschool level to professional level is much much greater in football than soccer.

Soccer is a pretty simple sport. Of course there are complexities and strategies.

SigmaAlgebra: Oh, right, playing a sport as a kid means you have total understanding. The strategy and tactics of the NFL are no more complicated than those in Pop Warner.

As a player, if you look at it simplistically, no, they're really not.

As a pop warner player: "Run this route, we'll call it Mickey 1"
As an NFL player: "Run this route, it's called Z-Out Trips"

And so on for most of the positions. Quarter back is certainly different.

In football/soccer, it's not much different. You make plays, you have strategy, it's not just "kick the ball up and score a goal".

moralpanic: WTF?! They give out bottles in those stadiums?

I believe that was the reason they started selling plastic bottles at stadiums, wasn't it?

You can call it both, you can call both sports football. No one will hurt you.

That can't be the only reason. I mean, what are people going to do with the bottles once they're done with it? And it would be far easier to stock the stadium with casks than it is with bottles
