This article FTW.

Let your kids play in the dirt and pick their noses. They will be healthier than the helicopter parents kids.

Oh but don't smoke after you have kids, that's a sure way to make them unhealthy.

Let them play in the toilet, but dont smoke around them, seriously, no sarcasm.

Two words: Mumbly peg.

This is why I don't freak out when my 18 month old eats off the floor. In the public restroom. Of the Penn Station's men's room.

Immune systems learn? That's unpossible.

Yes, but what is the child eating off of the floor?

Hau Ruck [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 11:21:06 PM
"So personally, I never take any special precautions against germs. I dont shy away from people who sneeze and cough, I dont wipe off the telephone, I dont cover the toilet seat, and if I drop food on the floor, I pick it up and eat it. Yes I do. Even if I am at a side walk cafe, in Calcutta, the poor section, on new year's morning during a soccer riot!"

/Obligatory.

Anybody that's had a kid in daycare could tell you this.

/Could have at least thrown down a rope.

You mean that a bodily system gains strength in proportion to how much it's used?

Unpossible.

Now rub some dirt on it, and send them out to play in the road. And breastfeed your yow'uns.

No wonder I never get sick.

azmoviez [TotalFark] 2009-11-24 12:55:29 AM
I guess it depends on when. I have a 3 month old. I've banned as much antibacterial stuff from the house as I can (tryclosan is in farking everything). I still got a flu shot and still want H1N1 vaccine. Granted I still smoke, but never around our kid, never inside and I wash my hands, etc before handling.

Our house will never be spotless but I won't let her eat cat turd.

I guess my point is that you shouldn't keep your kid in a bubble, but you'll freak out a bit when you start getting a cold with an infant around. By the time I have a toddler, I hope to be freaking out that she'll be bringing home all the flu/cold/etc.

Ban this shiat from every school and daycare.

Make it a controlled substance.

Seriously, this was the worst invention ever released upon the populace. Not even the Tiddy Bear or the Snuggie could bring as much harm as this crap.

Yup. My great-niece's grandmother has spent the last four years viciously protecting her from any contact with objects or creatures that might "make her sick". She sanitizes everything, and won't let strangers touch her. Family members have tried, without success, to explain to her that she's setting up my great-niece for a lifetime of sickness and disease.

No, it's got swine flu.

Jackdragna 2009-11-24 05:51:27 AM
This is why I'm firmly against the widespread use of all these antibacterial hand lotions. People need to be exposed to things, not just to build up the immune system, but to teach the immune system what stuff is harmless so they don't end up allergic to things.

Go on try stopping a baby/toddler from sticking icky and germ ridden stuff into their mouths. Go on try it.

They will stick anything into their mouths and my daughters favourite past time includes licking the bottoms of shoes.

I'll toast a 5th of whiskey to that!

BikerRay 2009-11-24 06:30:01 AM
Obvious. The sickest family I know was the one who were clean freaks. One day their toddler found a dead mouse in our yard and stuck it in her mouth. That got 'em excited.

/strangely, the kid lived to tell about it

No shiat.

My personal defense against the swine flu/H1N1 is living life, don't make out with strange, and have a shot of whisky every night.

fruit_blender 2009-11-24 06:35:11 AM
Should we be for or against vaccines? Because, then, theoretically, getting the mumps would strengthen our immune system even more, right?

Or did I just cross the line here..

There is a caveat.
That which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger.
