Joss Whedon need's to get away from network TV.

Cable, HBO, Showtime, anything else.

Shortly afterwards, Joss Whedon wrote a script where the award's wife was slowly tortured to death.

Only if she was happy. Joss never kills people who are suffering. Only after they accomplish some form of happy ending in very close sight.

Meh, she's writing novels and directing movies with her husband (the man who killed her, incidentally).

I'm in season 6 right now, just watched Tabula Rasa...I know she dies soon, and I fear when her name shows up in the credits.

/Hush=best episode!

Does Angel count?

Forgot about Angel and of course it counts, but even that ones a bit old now. His recent outings haven't really been that successful.

Depends on your definition of success. Ratings success? Not so much. But critically, Firefly is consistently ranked among the best science fiction series of all time, and Dollhouse has a small, but devoted fan base.

He makes shows that make people think. And that's the very thing we SHOULD be rewarding. Not 'I'm a Fat Celebrity Who Thinks I Can Dance - Get Me Out of Here! 4'.

Let's not forget Winnifred.
And Wash.
And Book.
And Buffy, who's "death" was ironically being brought back to life.

I love Firefly, but at this point I don't want to see it come back. It's been too long and the actors have all moved on, it would hurt their careers to return to Firefly. I would like to see another story take place in the Firefly-verse. A different ship, a different crew, different histories.

Joss didn't write every episode. As with every series there are a number of writers who work on specific episodes.

My only complaint about Joss is that he could have cut the pilot down significantly and not lost anything of value.

I still maintain that Firefly pushed television SciFi to a new level and helped close the gap that has existed between print and televised/movie SciFi for decades. Even Star Trek failed to have fully developed characters most of the time (there were a couple exceptions), but nothing on the level of Firefly or BSG. Those shows had full, rich characters - with all their flaws, fears, neuroses and strengths.

/also I like his directing style, I don't feel like I'm watching an ADHD music video.
//But hey, we have our own tastes. I like Joss's stuff, you don't. I'm secure enough that your being a philistine doesn't affect me.
