TFA: And the vast majority of those who are in regular contact with friends and relatives living in the U.S. say those friends and relatives have largely achieved their goals.

The bad news is that these goals include drinking Bud Light and doing their banking every Friday at a gas station. Call me when they aspire to car insurance and vasectomies.

Good for them.

The US should let them to continue to illegally cross the border, allowing them to be exploited by various employers, contribute to the crime rate and driving down wages for the average American worker,

The US should also under no circumstances prosecute companies who knowingly hire illegal aliens, nor deport the ones already there.

Yeah, but they at least have a fighting chance here to live a decent life. Get pulled over by a cop in any country south of the U.S. border, be prepared to encounter a mandatory bribe. Get pulled over in the U.S. and try to bribe a cop, they'll throw you in jail and give you due process.

Not to troll or anything, but honestly, at what point do you realize how hopeless the situation is and just give up? I'm not happy about illegal immigration, but I understand it.

Historically, the US turned a blind eye to immigration from Mexico because it served as a safety valve to postpone a Communist revolution in Mexico. The US feared that had Mexicans tried as hard to fix Mexico as they did to get into the US (including many deaths and detentions), there would be another Revolution.

Perhaps the cactus of liberty needs to be watered...

OscarTamerz 2009-11-24 03:31:15 AM
So we have 20 million criminal aliens and the remaining population of Mexico is 140 million and only 60 per cent want to immigrate so that means we're going to be picking up the health care, law enforcement, housing and education tab for only 84 million more Mexicans while the rich enjoy their subsidized servants and the limousine liberturds get to pat themselves on the back for being such great humanitarians while the rest of us pick up the bill. Good thing the economy is doing great so we'll barely even notice the extra tax burden of that and the health care boondoggle whammy. That heavens the president's aunt is a criminal alien so she'll be able to advise him on how to handle the situation.

I'm sure that the worsening drug war in Mexico won't change anybody's mind about leaving either.

This. Zero tolerance for immigration is kind of like zero tolerance for underage drinking or zero tolerance for teenage sex.

Would things be better if this all didn't happen? Sure. Do we have to live with it. Fark yeah. Should we do smart things to reduce bad consequences while not explicitly encouraging the action in question? Yeah.

We've had borders for about 235 years now. So far, we haven't been overrun, and the white race marches on.

Well, history has proved that there is nothing so bad that a Communist government cannot make worse.

The average American worker doesn't want to pick tomatos. When rebuilding NOLA with above minimum wage construction jobs you couldn't get Americans to take the jobs, they went to Mexicans. When I hired Mexicans to mow my lawn they made more than minimum wage.

They do jobs Americans won't.

They also drive without insurance and hit my car 3 times in 2 years.

Not at all; going after employers of illegal aliens and blocking government benefits, including indirectly mandated ones like medical care, you can drive out illegal aliens, especially when combined with deportations. Arizona's law, as deeply flawed as it is (it doesn't grant subpoena powers unfortunately), as helped drive out many illegal aliens.

Eisenhower drove out 3 million illegal aliens in a matter of months with 1000 agents - http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0706/p09s01-coop.html (pops).

As far as the headline goes, it's fairly obvious that they like life in the US better; they wouldn't be coming if they didn't. There's no reason to expect head explosion, except for subtard's desire to bash Dobbs.

Immigration, especially illegal immigration, has been bad for the quality of life in the US. It pushes down real wages, decreases job security, overstrains hospitals, schools, roads, etc, leads to loss of wilderness to development, and introduce social divisions and contention. And the illegal kind undermines the rule of law and fuels other crime like smuggling.

The US's percentage of foreign born residents dropped to all time lows 1948-1965, even as the US saw the greatest increase in standard in its history.

They do jobs Americans won't do, or can't do because of the mass availability of cheap labor?

I don't get it... what people often don't mention in these threads is that Mexico is like the 12th or 13th largest economy in terms of GDP (PPP). Apparently ahead of South Korea and Australia in the rankings.

If the numbers don't lie, then why does its populations yearn to get out of Mexico and pictures of much of Mexico look like shiat?

Hmmm.

Economy size only matters when compared to population. Australia has 20% as many people. China has a bigger economy but the average person has to grow food to feed himself and family.

Cool story abajo.

I love the people who scream racism and xenophobia when they know they're losing the pro-illegal immigration fight. Xenophobia especially implies the 'fear' of foreigners. No it's not fear. It's not that the intelligent people are afraid of them. No. The intelligent people see what is going to happens if we continue to let people enter this country unregulated and they just want it to stop. It has nothing to do with race either. There is imbalance that gets created by letting people come into the country on the fly.

also,

If you're pro-illegal immigrant, please tell everyone here why we, the citizens of America and the American government need to pander to illegal immigrants. What is it exactly that Americans did that illicits sympathies for them?

Were illegal immigrants the victims of slave labor to our ancestors? Did our ancestors kill them an take their land? Did we put them in camps? Did we target them specifically because of their race in the past that is massive enough to cause our government to give sympathies for them? What is it you cock? What is it that causes you to give them special treatment above others who genuinely deserve it due to the past actions of the United States?

Why should we care about the illegal immigrant condition?
Whatever did we do to them to illicit our help, our sympathies, our tax monies and aid over those who have been blatantly wronged by the USA?

Why should we help these individuals instead of helping their country? Why should the USA be obligated
to help these individuals who illegally entered our country as well as place their needs above the needs of others we have wronged?

I and a bunch of other logical and rational Farkers are waiting.

You cocks.

I grew up in southern California. Most of the immigrants I knew worked harder than anyone else I knew, and did it with an inordinate amount of humility. Most would get car insurance if they weren't afraid to. As far as the vasectomies statement goes.. keep your ethnic cleansing rhetoric to yourself.

Britney Spear's Speculum [TotalFark] 2009-11-24 04:34:57 AM
My friend's free clinic is 90% spanish speaking only. Many (but not all) of them make the choice to have children at age 17 or younger regardless of their economic situation. Many of them make the choice to not further their education even though there are scholarships available to them. The county the clinic is located has a 60% hispanic teen birth rate compared to 15% for blacks and 10% for whites. You cannot ignore those numbers.

It's the rest of the 10% that have truly fallen on hard times that she says makes her job worth it. Today she helped get a father of 2 whose wife and daughter died in a car accident get on healthy families.

As a Native American med student, I find this push to promote only hispanics in California appalling. It's not like there is a country nearby where and endless supply of more Native Americans and descendants of slaves exists where they can come over and get free aid.
