Maybe if anime went back to its roots of original stories, good animation, and interesting character development they would regain some of their glory.

They went on to form the studio known as Bones, who have done a lot of shows since 1998. Always high quality animation, the plots are a bit of an exercise in the director and writers conveying unusual stories. Haven't really seen one that's disappointed me, though some can leave you confused.
