Well it's ABOUT FARKING TIME

Lando Lincoln [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 04:30:14 PM
I've never been into hockey, but...good job, Blackhawks. You do Chicagoland proud.

unyon [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 04:37:30 PM
Chicago looks really, really good. I thought the first Flames loss to them season, giving up a 5 goal lead, was perhaps the most embarrassing loss to Chicago possible. But then we laid that 7-1 egg on Thursday night and I had to recalibrate my stink-o-meter.

Good job, Chicago. I like the cut of your jib.

The amount of injuries the Red Wings have seen this year is ridiculous. At the rate we're going, we might as well call up all of the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Still, I'll take that 7-2-1 run.

The NaSkAr: HOSSA ON WEDNESDAY OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

Hossa's fantastic in the regular season.

The problem is, he also has to play in the playoffs.

iruber1337 2009-11-23 07:10:14 PM
As an Islander fan...fark you ESPN:

"Nice piece on Matt Moulson by Burnside today."

That's all you could say? Sure we're at salary floor and have a lot of unproven players but still put out a great effort every night. Oh wait, no they had to take a swipe while writing about the Rangers:

"It has come down to this: The free-falling Blueshirts are now behind the hated Isles in the power rankings."

jennyz 2009-11-23 07:18:34 PM
Dallas at 12? I'll take it...

If only they'd play every night like they did against New Jersey and Detroit. I have no idea why they step up to play the big boys, but suck ass against the suck ass teams.

chrisco123 [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 07:20:39 PM
Canadiens are injured. Markov, Gionta, Gomez...but we still take 3 of 4 points versus Detroit and Washington. We're going to far in the playoffs with Price.

Oh yeah, fark Toronto.

Pwndoggle 2009-11-23 07:21:19 PM
That is what I'm talking about! Great season of hockey so far, and even better for a Hawks fan. Can't wait to see what Hossa brings to the table with this high flying offense. And who'd have thunk at the beginning of the season Huet would be 5th in GAA a quarter of the way through and Niemi would have 2 shutouts? ONE GOAL motherfarkers!

ESPN can't figure out whether their power rankings are supposed to represent teams that are hot now, or teams that might become hot. No matter what they come up with, it's internally inconsistent. Either way, Blackhawks are hitting all the right numbers right now so I do agree with that

Anyone know what's up with Chicago re-signing Keith/Toews/Kane, bringing back Hossa of IR, and having to ditch salary (Sopel?)

desertgeek 2009-11-23 07:51:19 PM
Coyotes at 16? Sounds about right. The injuries to our top 3 defensemen (Jovanovski, Michalek, and Kurt Sauer; who hasn't played a game yet) has hurt us, but the kids we've called up have done everything they've had to do. I agree that we do need more offense, but all things considered; I'm pretty happy with things right now.

they supposedly don't consider injuries, but they manage to say X team is hot because Y player just came back, except when they just ignore Y player on team X coming back

Hiro's Protagonist: ESPN can't figure out whether their power rankings are supposed to represent teams that are hot now, or teams that might become hot.

That's an issue with every Power Ranking I've seen. Too many teams are ranked according to the standings. For example, the Avs are at #13 in this one. They've been horrible lately. They should be ranked in the 20s somewhere. If they rebound and their play matches their overall record next week, bump them up. But this past week they've sucked. Power Rankings should reflect that. Leave the long-term stuff for the standings.

We have an expression: Oli-ed or Jokinen-ated. It means to have a team effort fail due to the sub-par efforts of one member which fall short of the level of incompetance required to remove that member from the group.

Assuming the Kiprusoff effect doesn't come into play, at which point the Habs are done.

The guy is having a terrible streak of bad luck. Last game I think against the Kings he hit a post, and a wrap around attempt that the goalie made a great save on.

I called it last season. Blackhawks will win the division. Wings will barely make it...especially with all of the injuries this season and loss of talent.

Pittsburgh's only 4th in that list, but we lost every one of our top 6 D-men at one point. That was awkward.

The 'Hawks are close to extensions with Kanes, Toews, and Keith, according to reports. Even with the B as in B, S as in S Hossa "contract", just how are they going to do that under the cap? Nobody is going to take Campbell at that price, so who is going to be dealt?

Beats hell out of me. Even giving the three all the cap space they have (an underpayment at slightly over 4M each), they still have to pick up 9 players- they're currently at 13 signed.

We had him here for 4 years, I think. He's no Backstrom, but he still has starter abilities, no doubt.

That's interesting, although projecting this kind of thing is stupid.

It's also a few days old, which matters at least for my team. The Wings should vault up the list, because over the weekend they lost Kronwall for a month or two thanks to Laraque. The hit was immediately after he drew blood from Darren Helm with a high stick, too - the Kronwall injury came before they'd had a chance to call the delayed penalty.

On the plus side, he got suspended, but I'm less than thrilled.

Syder 2009-11-23 10:21:14 PM
Fisher in OT. That should bump the ranking up. Or will the Lightning still be ahead of us?

Totally agree. As much as the get talked up by the commentators, they have some obvious deficiencies in the "puck handling" and "completing a farking pass or two" departments.

I'll stick with the Sharks. The top line is a doozy! And Nabokov has been consistent lately. As long as they stay consistent and kick it up a notch in the playoffs, I'll be happy.

I'd love to see both my teams in the Finals! Capitals are my second favorite team. Go Sharks vs. Capitals in the Finals!
