I love this dude.

itazurakko [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 10:50:13 AM
I never heard of him until that SNL (never saw the sitcom he was on).

From the beginning of the show he seemed so PLASTIC, in a neat way. Just flexible and really expressive, somehow.

You didn't see 500 Days of Summer? A pox on your house.

DarthBrooks [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 11:01:10 AM
That was pretty damn cool.

Of course most of the children in the audience never saw Donald O'Connor's performance.

With Six You Get Spittle [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 11:06:05 AM
That was awesome! A very worthy rendition of the incredible performance of Donald O'Connor. Best scene in the movie, IMHO.

Of course, I enjoyed his work on 3rd Rock, but now can't wait to see more of JG-L's work.

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 11:16:36 AM
I saw it was him and Dave Matthews and thought to myself, "WTF? Is this a repeat from like 1997?"

The whole show turned out to be a pretty good episode. Loved the opening skit, Gordon-Leavitt was great.

I've had a terrible crush on him since 3rd Rock... and he was so geeky cute in 10 Things I Hate about you.

My crush is rekindled.

azmoviez [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 11:18:04 AM
Is his next movie a musical or something? Every single sketch had song and/or dance.

doublesecretprobation [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 11:38:48 AM
he can't really sing but it was a good effort.

One of the funniest SNLs in a long time. Dave Matthews nailed Ozzy. And 'What Up With That' is really starting to grow on me.

i really wanted to watch this one and will watch clips online (or wait a month for the rerun on tv). the opener, and the digital short they did were great. but then my fiance called me into the bedroom. not that any of you care or should even know that, just that was the ONLY thing that kept me from watching this particular snl

Do yourself a favor, rent Mysterious Skin, bring your girlfriend over and make a date out of it. You will thank me later.

Maybe the 2nd worst piece of advice ever, right behind "Go ahead and take it, Adolf - England and France won't ever honor their treaty with Poland."

Zombie Eater 2009-11-23 11:54:07 AM
I refuse to watch SNL, but I think that he's a highly-underrated actor. If you're a fan of his or just a fan of noir, check out Brick (new window). Imagine a gritty 30s detective story set in a modern suburban high school scene. Yes, including slang.

Ashtrey 2009-11-23 11:54:52 AM
With Six You Get Spittle:

Make sure you catch The Lookout, Brick, and Mysterious Skin. Manic was also pretty good, and had him working with Zooey Daschanel long before 500 Days of Summer.

Yeah I know I've seen too much of his work, but can you name another decent actor under the age of 30? Let's all just forget that he was in GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra. He even said in an interview he did that one because he had never gotten to work on that kind of movie before, and expected to never get to do one again. He also said that getting to wear a mask during the movie was also crucial to his accepting the part.

funkyebk 2009-11-23 11:56:08 AM
I like the guy. A lot. The Lookout and Brick are very good films, it's about time for JG-L to start taking over the world. The opening skit was great, he nailed the spoof of Jason Maraz... all in all the first SNK I've snickered at in a long time.

Ashtrey: Yeah I know I've seen too much of his work, but can you name another decent actor under the age of 30?

You haven't seen too much of his work. You've seen the correct amount. The only other actor as good as him under 30 is Ryan Gosling (who I think is actually better).

Uh, that's a great movie, but I don't think it's so much a date movie. Unless of course your girl is into some strange things.

I thought that the hallway was going to be reference to the upcoming Christopher Nolan film Inception (new window). Either way, JG-L is easily my favorite actor out there. He even put in a fantastic scenery chewing performance (in a mask at that) for that horrendous GI Joe film.

How's about a clue for those of us who don't have one?

Oh, and I nominate Hugo Weaving in V for Vendetta.

500 Days of summer wqas pretty bad. I love Zooey Deschanel, but if you take away the gimmick of going out of chronological order, Summer is a really boring story.

The Lookout and Brick were great. He's got skills and I can't wait for him to get a really juicy role. He'll knock it out of the park.

It was a movie about a couple getting together and then breaking up. It's not really about 'story'. It's about character. It was a really good movie and will be on my top 10 of 2009 for sure.

I haven't seen anything this guy has done lately, is the audio in this clip just weird or does he suddenly have a Walken-like quality to his speech?

Ya it was weird. I thougth maybe he was doing a Donald O'Connor impression. JGL doesn't speak like that.

He's like a scrawnier Heath Ledger. I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crackers, though, that's for sure.

lasercannon 2009-11-23 12:15:32 PM
I was suprised when Reba McEntire appeared in that episode. Her duet with Andy Samberg was pretty good. She must have recently gotten back from a vacation, because she loked a lot more tanned than usual.

Hack of all trades: And 'What Up With That' is really starting to grow on me.

I usually fast forward any skit with Good Burger but What's Up With That is pretty funny in a random wtf way. I love Fred Armisen's saxaphone player and Jason Sudeikis in the background dancing.

That was pretty awkward IMHO, and I don't know what he was thinking with the G.I. Joe movie (other than "paycheck!"), but The Lookout was one of the best movies I've seen in recent years.

Probably due to the writer/director, Scott Frank. He adapted/wrote Out of Sight, another of my favorites.

Love that guy, but can never remember his name, even after I've looked him up twenty times. Every time he pops up in random movies, I always go, "Hey, it's that guy! I love him!"

Was disappointed by the clip because Subby didn't differentiate between "Singin' in the Rain" and Singin' in the Rain. JGL wasn't bad, and I like the fact that he pulled off the flips, but now I have to find Gene Kelly doing "Singin' in the Rain"... *grumble*

The problem for me was the two main characters weren't likeable. Gordon-Levitt's character was the typical whiny romantic comedy guy and Zooey's character was a biatch who had nothing going for her outside of looking good. There didn't seem to be any reason why they would like each other in the movie aside from both being good looking people.

I like Gordon-Levitt as an actor as well, I couldn't stand him in that movie.

I went in really wanting to like it, but I soon realized I was sitting through another typical romantic comedy. It was the first time in a long time that I was checking my watch in the middle of a movie.

T.M.S. [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 12:46:11 PM

Not even close. O'Connor runs up the wall and flips when he reaches the top. This guy just pushes off the wall and back flips.

milehighstar 2009-11-23 12:48:05 PM
Whats up with that was hilarious. I havent laughed so hard at SNL in a long time. The look on Al Gores Face was priceless.

Only watched the second half (Dammit) but "relations" were calling.

Mr. Slippyfist: Gordon-Levitt's character was the typical whiny romantic comedy guy and Zooey's character was a biatch who had nothing going for her outside of looking good.

Well JGL's character seemed like a regular guy to me. I don't think he was especially whiny, no more than your average person. As for Summer, that was the point. The movie was told through Tom's eyes, and thus you only see Summer as he does. That's a style made pretty explicitely in the movie.

Mr. Slippyfist: I went in really wanting to like it, but I soon realized I was sitting through another typical romantic comedy.

You really weren't. Have you seen a typical romantic comedy? They're horrific.
