His statement could have a couple different meanings. If he's intending to brag about his team's abilities "We're just gettin' warmed up. We're gonna kick all your asses," that's just douchy.

On the other hand, if his meaning was more along the lies of "We're doing great, but we need to keep working hard to reach our full potential," that's a great attitude to have.

He meant the latter. Brees isn't the kinda guy to say anything outwardly douchey.

Quite frankly, he does need to constantly set the bar pretty high for his teammates and be willing to keep them in check given how young this team is for the most part. Whom else, especially on the offense, would do that? Shockey? Bush? Puh-leeze.

I have to believe its the latter. Everyone down here in NOLA has the same opinion... 10-0 is great, but they're playing dangerously bad against some terrible teams.

They rocked yesterday in the 2nd half, but the 1st half was not good at all. The Pats would have taken advantage of that.

FourEx 2009-11-23 12:59:15 PM
he's probably saying that because the saints have played exactly one good team this year, and beating NYG promptly caused THAT team to curl up in a ball for four games.

this team hasn't peaked yet because their schedule is as soft as the gators' schedule. wonder what would happen if next week they play someone GOOD...oh wait...they ARE.

Huh?

"2000: The Rams were first in the league in total offense (7,335 yards), completions (380), passing yards (5,492), yards per pass attempt (9.36), passing touchdowns (37) and rushing touchdowns (26)"

Seriously... never?

Now, defense still wins championships (even though defense is slowly being cut out of the NFL with their goofy new interpretation of the rules). And most high-yardage teams don't have much of one.

But still- never in 40+ years?

I just looked it up, not sure if you got the date wrong. The 1999, not 2000, Rams won the Super Bowl. However they indeed had the top passing offense:

Led NFL and NFC in total yards (400.8 yards per game)
Led NFL and NFC in passing yards (272.1 yards per game)
Led NFL and NFC in scoring (32.9 points per game)
Led NFL and NFC in rushing defense (74.3 yards per game)
Led NFL (tied with Jax) and NFC in sacks (57)

Well, I stand corrected. The team that leads the league in passing rarely wins the super bowl.

It's amazing what you can do in the NFL with a solid Offensive line as a foundation for your team (e.g. Saints, Vikings). I still don't understand how teams forget this simple fact.

I think the pinnacle of football greatness would be if Indy 18-0 and NO 18-0 met in the Superbowl. I'd put my money on Indy to win that game.

Regardless, if the Patriots walk into the Superdome and roll the Saints what gets said then?

Overrated, if the Saints played in the SEC, they'd win MAYBE 4 games.

well, the media will be awful quiet, they'll be too busy eating crow.

and i guess the saints fans will all be screaming "WHO DAT" in denial that the pats rolled them. but i don't think they will. it'll be a great game.

I'm sorry. My Sundays are already booked self-medicating while watching Eagles games.

Seriously though, I don't get how GM's forget the O line. It is the most important part of a football team, and most teams always forget it.

I'd have to respectfully disagree, the defense is the reason the Saints are 10-0. The last few seasons the offense was putting up huge numbers but the defense was among the worst.

Saints defense this season:

Leads NFL in INTs (20)
Leads NFL in Passes Defended (79)
Tied for 9th in NFL in fumbles forced (11)
Tied for 5th in NFL in fumbles recovered (9)
Tied for 11th in sacks (24)
Leads NFL in defensive touchdowns (5)
Tied for 13th in points allowed (20.4)

Nothing to sneeze at.

Did you know the Saints are also a top 5 Rushing team? Ranking number 4 behind Miami, Carolina, and the NY Jets?

They are also only ranked 5 in passing offense. The colts lead there.

The Saints are the only team to currently be in the top 5 in passing and rushing.

nmiguy 2009-11-23 02:29:19 PM
Saints are the team to make it to the Super Bowl for the NFC. About time. What a fun team to watch.

Dr.Knockboots [TotalFark] 2009-11-23 02:33:39 PM
Vikings are a more complete team.. they'll take the NFC title..
vs the Patriots in the SB (Pats win)
and the media will explode in their pants over Farve and Brady in one game at the same time.
Tebow will be at the game as well, and the mere presence of all 3 in one place will cure cancer.

Yes it is, against good teams they dont look that good, they feasted on bad teams, average offensive teams did well and the pats may beat them by 20
