Never go full Tardis.

I need a citation on the episode that declares that as his age, or i call shenanigans.

Meh, dr. who is one of the few things i miss since i ditched cable. Not on PBS like in the good ol days, and the dvd's are insanely expensive.

Happy birthday, Doctor. May you keep on getting hotter and hotter and hotter......

I remember him saying he was 900ish during one of the Rose Tyler episodes.

Fully three times the age of the next Doctor, I believe. I mean, they should call him The Bachelor...amiright, amiright?

Great, one of them. Next you'll tell me how Doctor Who never did the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs in the aluminium tard.

He also said he was over 900 in the 4th and 6th Doctor episodes (iirc)

No one has chastised the submitter for truncating the "Doctor" in "Doctor Who" yet?

In the 2007 Christmas Special "Voyage of the Damned" he states "I'm The Doctor, I'm over 900 years old!..."

Time didn't necessarily pass in a linear fashion between reincarnations and episodes. Stuff happened plenty that we didnt get to see.

2nd Doctor describes himself around 450 years old, Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor states a few times to be 750, but occasionally forgets the specific number (wouldn't you too?) and in the 7th Doctor episode I just happened to watch last night, he states his age as 953 years old.

When 953+ years old you reach, look as good you will not!

I kind of like that they have younger actors playing the older and older doctor. I hope the new doctor can pull off the contrast as well as Doctors 6, 7, 9, and 10 have. Knowing there's a vast ancient mind inside that body is one of my favorite quirks of the character.

Koalaesq: Happy birthday, Doctor. May you keep on getting hotter and hotter and hotter......

Oh, hell no. The Doctor did much better when he wasn't attractive. They had to pay more attention to plot back then. It wasn't all "Doctor, I love you!", "Doctor, I love you!", "Doctor, I love you!" season after season after season. That crap gets old. This is why I was really hoping they'd go for an older Doctor for Eleven. But no, they got a fetus to play him.

So this. I know they're going to be doing plenty of isn't-it-ironic-this-young-guy-is-nearly-1000 type references within the show as well as from the popular press.

At this point it would be even more subversive to enlist and old Doctor. Maybe use some well-known British actor. Bill Nighy, for example, would be awesome. Sean Connery, on the other hand, would not...unless you want to see his spunky female companion biatch-slapped at every opportunity. (*whack* "MEN are talking.")

I'm the Doctor. I'm a Time Lord. I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the Constellation of Kasterborous. I'm 903 years old and I'm the man who is gonna save your lives and all 6 billion people on the planet below. You got a problem with that?

haysoos 2009-11-23 01:23:08 PM
Actually, I think a black doctor would be awesome. Maybe Craig Charles?

ZeroCorpse [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-11-23 01:23:28 PM
I'm all for the Doctor regenerating into the body of Dawn French. I think that has all sorts of potential.

"Gallifrey's Moons! Look at me! I look like I swallowed the TARDIS! And what are these? Oh my! This is a twist... And I thought new teeth were difficult to adjust to!"

...Or perhaps Nigel Planer. I would enjoy the hell out of that.

The story is that that was the original plan, but then Matt Smith blew 'em away at his audition. I can't wait to see his spin on the Doctor. And the romance has got to be toned down (although I have to admit, DT was HOT!)

/and it's NOT Doctor Who, he's just "the Doctor"

Gamer Grrrl 2009-11-23 01:27:23 PM
I'd like to see Damien Lewis or Kevin McKidd as the Doctor. They both would bring an intensity to the role, wiht Lewis bringing a bit of lightheartedness and McKidd some anger.

I can see Dan Radcliffe playing the Doctor in 20 years or so.

And if we're going for older Doctor, how about Tim Curry?

Radcliffe would cause significant nerdgasm for lots of people.

I've always liked this explanation of his getting younger over the years, from the Time Crash special that featured Ten meeting Five:

Back when I first started, at the very beginning, I was always trying to be old and grumpy and important - like you do, when you're young.

Supposedly, Bill Nighy was asked to play the Doctor & he turned it down. Pity, too. He would have been perfect.

First Rommana, in the keys to time series. She mentioned his age a few times.

The trouble is, once you've burned through all the past episodes and all the new episodes, you have to always be waiting for new Who.

This week, animated Dreamland. Then the wait for Xmas, then New Year, then freaking March or April for the first of the new guy's stories.

/still getting my head around his deflowering the virgin queen (cin clip).

True. But there are so many episodes that still survive. I've been collecting all the episodes I can. DVD if it's available, though I've also used other means at my disposal. I have all of the sixth Doctor episodes and still have not seen them all. And he had the second shortest tenure! Then there's all the audio plays. Plus Tom Baker's coming back to do an all new 4th Doctor adventure for "DOctor Who" magazine! Good time to be a Timelord fan...

Also, for those of you concerned about Matt Smith, everybody who's seen him during filming seems to think he's doing a wonderful job, and is playing it a bit like Troughton.

I will always hold out hope for Rik Mayall as the Doctor, Adrian Edmondson as the Master, and Nigel Planer as a Cyberman clone/hybrid of Brigadier General Lethbridge-Stewart, Christopher Ryan as the reanimated corpse of Harry Sullivan, and Alexei Sayle as Davros Balowski.

Idris Elba could bring some serious badassedry to that role, and from other things I've seen him in, particularly the wire, he's got a good knack for those non-verbal communication things (imho important to playing the Doctor well)

Do you know how many times the Tardis would get pulled over if there was a Black Doctor? Half of all episodes would start off with his companion bailing him out of jail beccause the police claimed he resisted arrest and had to beat him. Besides Colin Salmon, Chiwetel Ejiofor or other people I can't really remember now would work a lot better.
