the big video screens/TV's are pretty close to being doable for the mainstream. Pretty much anything else...not so much.

"Freejack is a decent enough film, with a few good ideas"

And that's all you need to know.

How is it that back in 1992, no one was able to take a calendar and figure out that 11/23/09 was going to happen on a Monday, not a Thursday?

The sequel was going to be based on that mystery!

The film predicted that Mick Jagger would still be alive, which he is. They also adequately predicted what he'd look like.

I remember when they filmed that movie. The funny thing is the part of town they picked to represent the dystopian future pretty much looks the same now as it did back then. So at least they got that right.

Because they didn't have Google. Before Google people couldn't function and were mostly incontinent shut-ins

The one thing that was interesting in that movie was the concept of a person uploaded into computers as an AI.

A very good friend of mine was an extra in that movie. He got to die four times (since he was good at dying!). I managed to get all kinds of swag from that movie. Coffee mugs, shirts, jackets, hats, all kinds of promotional stuff from him.

He's now a stand-up comic.

/cool story, bro!

This was made in 1992. Crystal Balls hadn't been perfected yet. Awkward, I know.

ummm...what i meant instead of a blank quote up above was:

just as i read that the line "i just can't seem to drink you off my mind" played on the radio...from "honkey tonk women" by the rolling stones

eerie

Well it's awkward now. I reember that was the only thing not boring in the last half of A.I. was seeing them waterlogged in Manhattan n-hundred years into the future. (Although the best part overall by far was the Ministry concert.)

oddly enough I have this movie on loan from a friend and haven't got around to watching it yet...

I suppose I have to get around to it tonight then... I missed watching Terminator 2 on August 29, 1997, so I wouldnt want to have the chance and miss it...

the golden rule of Sci-Fi films should be that, unless it involves traveling backwards through time, you should never mention the dates. That's why Alien(s) is still awesome, but the Terminator films are going to be all "lolwut?" in 2029.

Ya, but we'll all be too busy fighting against an army of killer robots to be laughing.
Those of us that survive the initial attack that is.

I never saw this movie but I did read some book based on a similar premise, where people time-travelled back from the future to switch out people who were doomed to die in plane crashes or the like.

They were harvesting organs, IIRC.

Esai Morales used to be hot, though.

A more direct adaptation is Millenium, which is one of the '80sest sci-fi movies ever made.

Well, it predicted that Emilio Estevez would still have a career. Little off on that.

ok; If I see Emilio Estevez on the street today, I'll throw a net over him & turn him in for the reward.

FTFY.

That and The Bonfire of the Vanities (pops) are the only movies I've walked out of in the middle.

No wait. Shanghai Surprise (pops), too.

The problem was that it had to be close enough in the future for Renee Russo to not only be alive, but concievably still be attractive.

The same what "sci-fi" writers can't consult a physics textbook.

Yeah, those stories never last.

Actually, there was a lot of lolwuttery happening in 1984, when we hit the magical year and we were not all mindslaves yet. But the story managed to survive.

paradroid 2009-11-23 12:27:52 PM
Freejack is notorious for having something like 30% of it reshot before release, after the first cut didn't work. If you watch closely, it looks like they changed the plot so that Anthony Hopkins is dead instead of dying.

in 1984's defense, I do believe Orwell did imply towards the end of the book that it was questionable whether if even the year 1984 was even true. Not to mention, 1984 is satire and Terminator will probably end up like 1950s Sci-Fi where we had space colonies by 1990.
