Depending on the price, I would consider buying it. Always had good music and the characters were amusing. Unlike MTV nowadays, which has NO music and NO amusing characters, just fake reality shows.

Actually the corn wasn't that helpful.

I liked Daria. I'll admit it. Some episodes were way better than others. But I liked the show.

Holy shiatt. I've been waiting for this for years.
Srsly, they'll put out Tom Goes To The Mayor on DVD and not Daria?

Snatch Bandergrip 2009-11-22 08:22:32 PM
Loved Daria before I got it, loved it more when I did. If it's true that it won't have the music, that would suck, like how Beavis and Butthead just doesn't work without the music video interludes.

/Yep, it's oxidizing

mrsdish 2009-11-22 08:22:59 PM
I'm so excited about this! I loved Daria when I was in high school, maybe because I was a little bit like her. It's already in my Amazon wishlist.

krazydiamond [TotalFark] 2009-11-22 08:23:21 PM
I would think the kind of people who would want to watch Daria are the kind of people who have figured out how to use the internet at some point in the past decade or so.

I loved Daria. Will probably purchase the series.

LowbrowDeluxe 2009-11-22 08:30:21 PM
Because it costs anything to release a dvd, submitbelievesindustryhypetard?

It's a one time fee to the guy that picks the options on their 'make a DVD autoloader' software and then the cost of the frisbees themselves. Other than that the actual royalties for the people who actually did real work and that's it. Releasing media is practically free now. Stupid bullshiat like 'The Disney Vault' is the only reason there's perceived value to dvds.

solcofn [TotalFark] 2009-11-22 08:33:22 PM
It sure took MTV long enough to get The State DVD out...It's about time they did this too!

According to the article, there will inevitably be musical substitutions. However, I suppose this is better than nothing; look at what happened to the Beavis & Butt-Head DVDs.
I'm glad to see that I'm no the only one who's excited about this.

I probably wouldn't buy the DVD, but I do recall liking Daria. Kind of came out a few years later than it should've though.

The English Major: ow that they can make DVDs on the cheap

Depends on the content. I don't think this will be cheap. They will have to pay for -

- music royalties
- new recordings to replace music that can't be cleared
- any contractual payments to any voice actors/crew who have royalties in their contract
- legal fees to check existing contracts and draft new ones
- new sound mix with new music
- transfer from original masters to DVD
- graphic design for discs and covers
- menu design and DVD authoring
- development and production of bonus content

And of course disc duplication, printing, assembly, distribution, and promotional costs.

Hopefully it will come out here. Otherwise I may need to import a copy.

This needs to happen. Daria was one of the last good things to come out of MTV.

Pepehomer: Dear baby Jesus, please let Sifl and Olly be next!

And this.

Probably the only thing that's kept me from killing my neighbor is that he once showed me a S&O video on his iPod.

Psychologist: Now Dara, let's see if you can make up a picture as vivid as your sister's.
Daria: It's Daria.
P: I'm sorry Daria. What do you see in the picture Dara.
D: A heard of beautiful wild ponies running free across the planes.
P: Uh- there aren't any ponies. It's two people.
D: Last time I took this test they said they were clouds. They said they could be anything I wanted.
P: That's a different test. In this test they're people and you tell me what they're discussing.
D: It's a guy and girl and they're discussing a heard of beautiful wild ponies running free across the plains.

My not-especially-legal DVDs of low-quality transfers have aged to the point they are starting to rot. This is good news.

If they're replacing the music, I hope they at least leave some of key songs. Lane Miserables without Everlong would be problematic.

At a megamart
"Hey, Mr. D! What are you doing here?"
"I'm sorry if my shopping cart CONFUSED you, Kevin!!!"

I LOVED that show and I've been waiting for it to come out on DVD for years now. Last I checked there were claims that MTV was having trouble securing the rights for several of the songs through out the show.

I know that several song performances are deleted from the Muppet Show DVDs :(

Is it worth $40 for a set of those IYO if I'm a fan of the show?

I'd probably wait to see how the MTV set turns out w.r.t. music. The quality is all over the place. Some of the episodes that never got aired on the Sarcastithons or syndicated later are VHS rips from the original airings, and look pretty bad. Ill, specifically, is almost unwatchable. Most though are no worse than any other bootleg quality. The more-popular early episodes and all of season 4 & 5 are pretty decent.
