While I won't be watching said movie, I admire big numbers, particularly when expressed in the form of currency. I would therefore like to say hi to the publicist that submitted this link, and pitch my movie Hours of Throbbing Vampire Sex starring Cameron Diaz and myself. And a bunch of other chicks.

It's a winner.

The saddest part is that I'm sure a significant portion of that money total is comprised of said teenage girls and emo kids going back to see the movie a 2nd, 3rd and 4th time.

I think Hollywood has had quite enough with Cameron Diaz after seeing how big of a failure her Box was last week.

If what I detect of the mindless chatter of the overweight, sad, lonely women of ANY age group here all gasping orgasmically about this inane franchise is true ... you can go back to the original headline, but qualify it with "overweight, sad, lonely, emo females are dumb".

I defer to your wisdom.

I was half expecting someone to get arrested for showing up to a midnight showing dressed as either Blade, Dracula, or Van Helsing and causing a big scene.

Blade would be hilarious.

Someone posted that concept in a "how Twilight should have ended" De-Motivator poster (Blade standing behind the two tweenie sparkly stars of this dreck).

The thing is, I paid to see Transformers 2 in theatre, and I consider it money well spent.

BUT, I grew up with the cartoon, and I was going just because I wanted to see giant space robots beat each other to hell. I got my money's worth. I'm well aware the movies are pretty terrible and have some really disturbing tendencies to racism (in a movie about giant robots from outer space, no less), but I enjoy them entirely for the nostalgia.

There's no such excuse for anyone into Twilight. There's no nostalgic effect, and to make it worse, the fans will scream about how good the books and movies are.

If they admitted it was a guilty pleasure but they'll see anything with vampires in it, glitter or not, I wouldn't care nearly as much.

I disagree with anyone trying to split Subby's headline into finer distinctions. It's the girls. Yeah...ALL of them. Every female-person I know, including my wife, mother-in-law, and every one of my friends (except for my own mother, who is a very no-BS lady) wants to see this movie to some degree, or has already seen it. It ranges from, "looks fun, I'll check it out," to "OMG BEST MOVIE EVAR I'M SEEING IT FOR THE 4TH TIME TODAY SQUEEEE!!!", shrieked while jumping up and down in a sticky puddle.

Meanwhile, not even the promise of being the only dude in a room so full of horny females that the entire theatre smells less like popcorn than it does a harborside seafood market is enough to entice a single fella I know into buying a ticket to this estro-fest. Hell, even my GAY friends are like, "Jesus CHRIST, no."

They can keep Twilight out of the classroom. Read it at home. No term papers on the books.
Please, for the love of god, KEEP IT OUT OF THE CLASSROOM.
Public schools are no place for sparkly, Mormon vampires.

The English Major: Please, for the love of god, KEEP IT OUT OF THE CLASSROOM.

seeing this book in the classroom could be closer to reality than you can imagine. The district I once live in over a period of 10 - 15 years attempted to ban The Catcher in the Rye, The Giver, Huck Finn, The Lord of the Flies and Dracula on moral grounds.

Sparkly Vampire asexual tripe just might be what the doctor ordered for helicopter moms who don't want their snowflakes thinking. Plus, there are movies the kids can watch instead of actually reading the books.

Finally tried watching the first (and considered better) Twilight film last night and have to add my name to the list of (mostly guys) who don't get it.

Bravo to those people who dialed this one up and raked in the cash, that's where the real praise deserves to go.

I hated Catcher in the Rye. Read it in college. Helicopter parents would want to ban it for instilling a sense of wanderlust in their children. Ditto with Huck Finn (okay, and the continual usage of one word).

Never read The Giver.

The Lord of the Flies would cause damage to fat, bespectacled children everywhere; as a fat, bespectacled child who grew up to be a fat, bespectacled adult, I thought it was a good book.

Dracula is awesome because it's a great epistolary novel. It's hard to find a good epistol nowadays.

/let's ban Twilight because it involves...um...pre-op transsexuals

It's not like the people who hate on Twilight are posting from the line to a showing of Le Carrosse d'or.

I'm more disturbed at all the Twilight memorabilia being sold at the theater last night.* They didn't even do that for the Harry Potter flicks. Sadly, I don't think it's going to be a one-time thing and we'll probably see it happen more often with whatever is deemed the next Golden Goose Franchise.

*no, I was not watching New Moon.

Maybe it is who i hang out with. I've never had to listen to someone go on about transformers, WWF or monster trucks for 2 hours at work. These are 30 year old women talking about this movie and it is annoying as hell.

Pretty much this, including my sister-in-law. Whenever any of the women I know start to go on and on about it and get a fondue going in their panties, I'm like Homer's brain, walking out while listening to Flanders go on about apples.

Hey at least our porn is honest. When the DVD says Backdoor Sluts #37, nobody tries to pretend it's something it's not. Certainly nobody goes on and on about the brilliant writing and acting (though some appreciation of the talents on display may be involved).

I'm a girl and personally feel that Twilight is torture. I tried to read the first book and by page 70 gave up. Everyone said I just had to read it. Nope- hated it and was bored out of my skull. I have no reason to go see any of the movies plus Robert Patterson is freaky looking.

I have lots of friends (aged 30 and up) who think the whole thing is farking amazing. I just don't get it but I get stuck hearing about it all the time.

Last three movies I saw were Inglorious Basterds, Zombieland and Men who Stare at Goats.
