It's a little early to be announcing that kind of award.

Nice goal, but keep in mind that it was the Islanders.

There's a difference between skill, and tossing it at the net praying for something to happen.

paj 2009-11-22 02:12:43 PM
You're telling me he didn't do that on purpose? You're right, no skill involved.

That was pretty sweet. Perron has really come alive lately.

In related news, Forsberg's still got it.

Hockey? Lame.

I've heard of him.

Paddy Kane got one like that last night. He's the new Forsberg, minus the cybernetic limbs.

Never heard of Perron? What?

I think Stamkos has the goal of the year so far... until Ovechkin decides to try.

So I don't know much about hockey, but isn't there a rule that you can't have your skates in the goalie's blue area? Someone enlighten this newb.

I think they got rid of that rule, now you just can't interfere with the goalie.

They had that rule before and enforced it for all goals --- except Stanley cup winning goals

He smacked it in midair, praying it would do something. It's not the same as juking defenders and then freezing a goaltender.

Nice goal, but it wouldn't have happened if the Isles' defenseman (Streit) had played the man instead of the puck. Streit looked like an idiot waving helplessly at the puck, when in that situation, he could have just stood the man up and taken the body.

So I score that one: 50% nice move, 50% defensive brainfart.

Compared to baseball? Hockey is more exciting.
Compared to football? Hockey is more exciting.
Compared to basketball? Hockey is more exciting.

Which sports do you watch, exactly?

CaptMacMillian: Hockey? Lame.

I'd have that you'd be able to appreciate that.

Hockey is just like soccer. Except much, much faster. And more skilled. With physicality and body checking. And more goals. And an offside rule that actually makes a damn bit of sense.

So yeah, it's basically just like soccer. Except better in every conceivable way.

It amazes me that a defenceman can forget the only friggin' thing he has to remember right when it matters most. Seriously, I played defence for 7 years and I didn't have a single coach that didn't instruct the d-men to play the body.

C'mon really? Hockey just has linebacker sized people skating at very high speed on razor sharp skates using long sticks which can and are used as clubs while hitting a round rubber object, which is frozen so it will travel faster (up to 120 mph) when hit, and trying to put the said rubber object into the opponents net. Boooooooooorrrrrrriiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggg.

Saw that live last night. Perron's finally maturing into a good player. Bonus: doesn't wear white skates anymore. Now if Backes could stop getting run over and learn to play tough in front of the net...

Worry, that goal wasn't all that great. It's a good example of staying in a play, and the puck bounding around is pretty cool, but in the end there's too much luck in that play.

Nice goal, but keep in mind that it was the Islanders.

Hey, the Isles aren't THAT bad anymore. Not great, but things are definitely looking up.

Plus it was on Mark Streit, who's the best D on the team and was deservedly an all-star last year. Though Streit could have played that one much better.

In any case, amazing goal. Even if it came against the Isles.

C) Failmitter

For his offence.

Streit is mediocre at best on his own zone. Like a poor man's (team's?) version of Green or Bouwmeester.

That's fair. My point is that the Isles, while by no means great, aren't quite the punching bag they've been. It's nice to watch my team and actually have some expectations.

I vote for the Stamkos goal at this point.
It's hard enough to bat a puck in back hand. doing it while you are in motion, off balance and falling is a true display of skill.

That perron goal is damn nice, but you'll see guys make d-men look stupid like that a number of times during the year. I wish it wasnt against a member of my fantasy team (streit)

probably brain cells. Hockey is one of those sports that really doesn't translate on tv. Watch it in a small rink, even at a high school level, and 98 percent of the people would be hooked.

llama vortex 2009-11-22 10:23:14 PM
I understand why people may think he's not very well known, because even though he was born in my hometown, I haven't started consistently hearing about him until I moved to the other end of the country. Probably because I used to hear almost only about eastern conference and now I'm following both.

However, it's not because you don't care about something that nobody else does, so next time, subby, don't assume people don't know a first round pick just because you don't.

Hopefully. However, there's only so much he can do unless he gets elected to the Town of Hempstead government. They've done absolutely everything in their power to make this process as long, drawn-out, and painful as possible. Bastards.

Big fan of David. He and his brother have been members of a hockey site that a couple of friends and I run. He's a great kid and would be more well known if he was playing anywhere else.

His story is actually a very impressive one. A lot of hard work and dedication and making his own breaks to get where he is today.

Agreed. I don't follow a lot of hockey, but the first thing that came to my mind was "shouldn't that guy have been put on his ass like 10 feet away from the goal?"
