I remember the first year he took over for Vince...he looked like a little kid out there, I thought he would get killed. What do I know?

Hook 'em, Colt!

And, slightly off topic... Les Miles says he doesn't know who called for the ball to be spiked at the end of the Ole Miss game..Video shows that Les Miles called for the spike:

McCoy, Mack Brown and rest of the Horns better focus on A&M.

I know that the Heisman is typically the best QB/RB on a top team in the nation, but Colt McCoy? Really? There are at least 4 or 5 QBs more deserving of the Heisman this year.

If anything, Shipley should be the one on his team going to New York for the ceremony.

ESPN/ABC's crew started prattling that nonsense last night when Texas was in garbage time against an awful Kansas team. Not that Florida did Tebow any favors scheduling Our Sisters of the Poor yesterday. Oh, and it has NOTHING to do with the fact that ABC will be showing the Texas-Texas A&M game next week, followed by the Big 12 Championship a week later. I'd sit tight, because the World Wide Leader in Sports is going to put on a Heisman campaign that would make even the richest school's SID drool.

McCoy is good, but I don't think he exactly separated himself from the pack last night against a listless KU team that is taking on water fast.

He's probably just going to list the starting QB's for the top 5 teams in the Pac 10.

"McCoy joined his teammates in the end zone to sing "The Eyes of Texas." Then, McCoy took a lap around the field, walking slowly to reach into the stands and shake as many hands as he could.

When McCoy finally reached the other end zone, he beat Big Bertha, the Longhorn Band's drum, and even fired Smokey the Cannon."

Drama major?

As much as I can say, it won't be either Tebow or McCoy. Still both of them will be invited along with Jeremiah Masoli of Oregon and Mark Ingram of Alabama.

We know who its NOT going to be. It's not coming from the Pacific or mountain timezones, since USC is having a down year, and that's apparently the only school with talent out this way. So that leaves Ingram, McCoy and Tebow. Heisman goes to the sexy player on the good team.
I think its between Ingram and McCoy. Jacquizz should be in the conversation, but unlike these other guys, he'll be playing on Sundays. See Jackson for details. Oregon State, factorback factory?

Case Keenum should be at the top of any Heisman QB list. Everyone likes to penalize him for playing in conference USA... but the guy has taken what should be a very mediocre Houston team and singlehandedly turned them into a top-25 team, with victories over 2 Big-12 and 1 SEC team. Houston has one of the worst defenses in the country; they're 9-2 because of Case Keenum.

dougermouse 2009-11-22 12:41:52 PM
Ah, another SEC/Big XII internet tough guy "your mom" retort. Care to say why your candidate is better than the guy who hasn't fumbled in over 950 attempts, that more that 250 more than the next guy. I bet without McCoy or Tebow UF and UT beat 90% of the opponents. Without Quizz Oregon State is competing with UW for the bottom of the pac-10. That is a better indicator than beating a bunch of cupcakes. Baylor wins shouldn't count for McCoy, neither should yards against FIU for Tebow.

I'm making fun of the west coast inferiority complex. of course Jacquizz is good, he's from Texas. But him not being in the Heisman conversation has more to do with his team's performance than it's conference or location.

Statements like this make me wonder if your west coast bias also means that you miss every game played before 6pm PT. The PAC 10 doesn't get the same media fellating that goes to the SEC, but to say that Florida and Texas would be nearly as good as they are with Brantley and Garrett Gilbert at the respective helms is just plain dumb. Quizz has had a great year, but a lot of OSU's improvement this year is because of Canfield.

You could make a case for Kellen Moore also. Again, a mid-major QB, so no real threat to actually win the trophy. He has a 33 to 3 TD to Interception ratio and leads the FBS in Passer Rating.

Possibly winning the deepest conference in college football this year? Yeah, that's terrible!

Gerhart has put up better numbers than 'Quizz. But his team hasn't been as good. Didn't Tebow win the year his team went 8-5?

Before McCoy, I'd personally go with Tebow, who is in a similar position, or a few players who have made the difference between their team being pretty good and great-Case Keenum, Kellen Moore, Andy Dalton, or Jimmy Clausen, without whom Notre Dame would probably be awful. Or maybe Ryan Mallet-the highest rated QB in a major conference. I'm not saying any of these guys are locks over McCoy, but he shouldn't be a lock over any of them either.

/My suspicion is it will go to St. Tebow though.

//Although how many of those guys might be starting on Sunday some year? Maybe McCoy and Claussen?

Oregon State didn't play cupcakes like FCS FIU or 4-7 Baylor. Their season was only against powerhouses like FCS Portland State, 1-10 Washington State or 4-7 UNLV.

Aside from your total butchering of an otherwise hilarious Critic reference,

Florida played Charleston Southern, FIU, and Troy as "optional" games.

OReg State played Cincy, UNLV and Portland state as "optional" games. Soemthign tells me Oregon State's optional schedule is harder than Florida's optional schedule.

So your post is fail because you include Oregon sTate against Washington State, which is a mandatory game, and ignore Florida's game against Vanderbilt.

I believe that Moore, Keenum, Clausen, and Tebow have all had better years at that position (in that order). But if I had an official vote, none of these guys would win it.

Anyways, since you're so eager to find out my list, why don't you go ahead and spit out your top 5 then. And like I referred to in my previous post, the Heisman should go to the best individual player in the country, not the QB/RB on the best team.

Stupidity at it's finest. Just because I live on the west coast, doesn't mean I'm a pac-10 fan in the slightest.

Also this isn't to hate on McCoy, because I think he's a great player. But the Heisman should go to the best player in the country for a given season, which I don't think he is this year.

Abstruse [TotalFark] 2009-11-22 07:23:49 PM
This is completely coming out of left field because McCoy wasn't even mentioned for the Heisman ev-- Wait, he was one of the three finalists last year while still a Junior and came in second? Hmmm...
