It's my understanding the tweens involved are fond of snapping whippers, which should be mocked with disdain.

WTF!? When I was a tween, I was listening to Depeche Mode and reading Camus' The Stranger over and over again. I feel strangely well-adjusted.

At least we didn't have the term "tween".

I must be old. First, I never heard of this kid. He is barely out of diapers. How can he be a hearthrob? Second, how the hell is tweeting going to help the situation? Mind you, I dont tweet (it striked me as something for the entirely self absorbed), but I assume you need internet access to tweet. While a small fraction may have that on their phone I assume the vast majority of the kids at the mall won't be able to read the tweet until they get on their computer at home.

Scott114 2009-11-22 11:24:10 AM
Have you been to a mall lately Ima4? You can't throw a rock without hitting a 12 year old girl reading her cell phone. I know, I've tried.

Ima4nic8or 2009-11-22 11:24:17 AM
The mall security should have dispersed the crowd by blaring wayne newton music out of the mall speakers. The kids would have been gone in no time.

Um, that arrest sounds like bullshiat. For the first time ever, I'm glad that a record exec will have access to good lawyers. There's no way he should spend time in prison because other morons decided to riot.

But then again, they are the young generation, and they've got something to say.

FTFA: "It blew my mind that such a big mall and such a big event wasn't planned better, for the safety not only of the people who came but the people shopping in the malls and in the stores," mall worker Catherine Sharkey said.

Bieber's young fans hope he re-schedules the autograph signing session. For some, only then will they start singing his praises again.

"It's his fault and I won't ever forgive him for us acting like a pack of rabid moose. Nope. Entirely not our fault that we can't be civilized people and lose our shiat over a pimply nut-wrangler."

I go once in a while (once every 6 months or so). Normally the wife does all the shopping.

That is seriously depressing if most kids have internet access on their phones. It means they, or their parents, are either: 1) horribly rich twats who have much more money than me, or 2) are poor but just enjoy throwing money away. Its not that I am poor, I do ok, I just that I always thought of phone internet access as a luxury. I briefly had it once but just couldnt justify the cost (which was an extra $5/month at the time (1998 or so). It might make sense if you are a CEO who needs to constantly be in contact, but other than that its just another silly recurring cost that drains your wallet. When I pay for something once I want that to be the end of it.

TFA is light on details, but it sounds to me as if:

1>Event is scheduled
2>Huge crows shows up for event, straining capacity.
3>Someone in security at the venue decides that this could turn into a riot, and directs security not to let the idoru in question into the mall.
4>Squeaky clean teen sensation opts not to get arrested, and leaves when turned away.
5>The feared riot occurs
6>Mall secuirty finds someone to blame.

This article touches on several things that are wrong with people in this country today...... All I came away with was WTF?
The manager from the "label" is at fault because this mix of parents and kids can't find a way to conduct themselves and deal with a little disappointment, and the mall isn't equipped to handle a situation that may escalate?
If he was supposed to Twitter/tweet a message, then the assumption is that probably half or more than half of these people waiting have:
Cellphones.
With Internet capability.
And that these people also have Twitter accts that follow this kid.
We're talking about 13 and 14 year-olds here.... and their parents of course.
Yes, Twitter is for the totally self-absorbed - people that believe that others actually care what they are doing 24x7, and feel the need to post and A.W. Of course, the other people on Twitter are generally from the same sub-set, so they all get along in their little aquarium of self-importance. Typically you'll see these people treat their Facebook accounts the same way.
It all points towards lack of accountability and a me-first attitude of self-importance.
As to the latest cookie-cutter pretty face that the Media Machine(more often thsn not Disney) cranks out? It's simply a matter of create the demand and then fill it. It's a formula that works, no doubt about it, but it has so little to do with talent now. There have always been teen heart-throbs - at any point over the last 50 years, but where it was finding the talent and getting behind it, now it's just the next person fitting the suit. The Johnny Bravo episode of the Brady Bunch taught me that.
So what's next? Part of me wants to believe that it would be a 180 and a step in the right direction. Part of me doesn't see how that's even possible until the sheeple wake the hell up.....
Off my soapbox, end Sunday Morning Rant......

Finally!!!

I'm 42, but every time a story on here talks about Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift or the High School Musical people or any of Paris Hilton's buddies or any of Joss Whedon's casts, I know exactly who they're talking about. Every time there's a story about a popular show or movie, I know what they're talking about.

But finally, after all this time, I get to be one of the elite snobs who says "Who?"

Internet access is not that limited anymore. Blackberries can connect to Wi-Fi, and I imagine at least two free hotspots in the mall. (Usually food court or by a coffee shop)

Not only that, Netbooks are the size of a binder and with an aircard, that makes it a portable internet browser usable anywhere.

I wish I had that stuff when I was in high school, my homework would've gotten done so much faster.

According to this kids Wikipedia page, he(maybe she)* is 15 years old.

* If he is a guy I feel very bad for him as his balls have not yet dropped or he lost them in an accident. At the age of 15 no male should still be able sing or talk with that high a pitch

I hate how members of my profession has decided that every Web 2.0 social networking tool must be co-opted and used. People my age (30's) are Tweeting and look scornfully at me when I say I don't use Twitter. WTF, who needs to know in lightning speed what you're doing every 2 hours? Isn't Facebook enough to broadcast your status? Why not just text somebody if you need to send a message?

\I'm an archaic stick in the mud because I prefer email
