Vernon wells had a total of 3 rbi's in july, all on solo home runs
but was battling a stomach virus and recently repair an injured wrist.
Maybe he can become the CBOY if the Blue Jays hit in the 456 spot next season.

as a cubs hater, i'm smiling they had 2 players listed

**I don't know if you have noticed this, but if you do this (A), (B), (C) thing on your instant message or on your phone, the (B) comes out looking like a smiley face. I don't like this at all. I am not opposed to the whole smiley face revolution -- hey, people like smiley faces. But the computer should give me smiley face control. It's sort of the way I feel about Microsoft Word always trying to turn my numbers into lists and my iPhone always trying to change my spellings. Let ME decide if I feel like transmitting a smiley face.

This is why Poz is the best sportswriter in the country.

As far as the real MVP, its going to be Mauer, if for no other reason than (a) the other to players (Tex and Jeter) are ont he same team and thus will steal votes from each other and (b) those two other players are on the yankees, so anti-yank voting will leave no other option than Mauer.

He's got this one in the bag before you even consider how good he was.

I loved that smiley rant too.

As for Acta, I'm with Poz in feeling bad about it. The Nationals was just a horrible sutuation for him.

Mauer already got both NY MVP votes, so he's a lock:

Peter Abraham.

Joel Sherman.

The entire Mets lineup minus David Wright should be the LVP of the National League. Or Jose Reyes for being a p*ssy the entire season.

Funny. In Septermber, someone wrote that Aaron Boone returned to the majors sooner than Reyes.

And Boone had open heart surgery.

Regardless about how you feel about two players on the same team sharing votes, or an anti New York bias (I don't think either phenomenon exists, personally), there is simply no case to be made for anybody BUT Mauer as most valuable player. He really was that good this year; light years better than the other two players, especially when you consider defense, home stadium, and the lineup they were in.

You cannot make a case for any other player. You just can't.

Can we get a little love for the Reds going on their annual late-season tear - the one that only starts when they've fallen 20 games behind?

As a Reds fan, I've had to come to grips with this over the years. Always next season....

i think the Jays can compete for the wild card, they have a great team, if they get a closer

Honestly, the Jays aren't a -bad- team. Take them out of the AL East and they'd be in the playoff discussion almost every year.

Here's one vote for Matt Holliday for American League LVP. The guy was a stud for Colorado, then dogged it for Oakland. Goes to Saint Louis, and regains his studliness. I have no use for him. I was happy to see this: Link (new window)

That contract on Vernon Wells is stupendously bad. I mean if there was a Bad Contract Hall of Fame that thing would have to go in as a founding member. Plus they bat his wild-swinging no-power ass in the middle of the lineup so as to extract the most squandered scoring opportunities from him as possible. And was Vernon Wells even ever good enough to warrant that contract anyway? What, does he have pictures of J.P. Riccardi raping the severed head of a Catholic nun through the eyesocket hidden in his locker?

Matt Holliday was an above average player for Oakland. You can't expect him to produce Coors Field numbers in the Coliseum.

He was damn good, from '02-'06. After that the wheels came off and it was all downhill. He looked like a perennial 30/100+ batter and gold glove winner and then it all went to hell. The pop went out of his bat, he took to the Manny Ramirez school of fielding and refused to change his approach at the plate making him the easiest strike out in Toronto since Eric Henski.

As for the Jays, Doc wants out so the cellar is their home until Rogers sells them to some Vegas owner.

The only guy on the Mets who managed to stay in the lineup for most of the year AND kinda suck was Wright.

Not only that, the Yankees were stacked beyond belief. With a lineup as stacked as what they had, it becomes a bit easier to have a good hitting season. I also have a hard time seeing an MVP award to somebody who batted under .300 (even with Texiera's great defense). It's going to be Mauer for no other reason than his team was inferior compared to the Yankees (along with what he did all season).

No way MLB will abandon Canada. (Would they?)

And there are some bright spots. Lind had a hell of a year. Couple other nice offensive players.

The Tigers should get some mention for blowing a 3 game lead with 4 games to go.

Rogers isn't interested in baseball any more, they have their sights set on getting the Bills to Toronto.

Unless there are any improvements in the next 5 years I wouldn't be surprised to see the franchise relocated somewhere. If they have an owner who cares, and a GM who can rebuild through the draft they'll be all right.

The team, as a previous poster mentioned, is all right. We'll see what the new GM can do, it would be tough to do any worse than JP.

And for anyone biatching about the Wells contract he would have received even more money on the open market. He was signed for fair value, no one knows what will happen when you sign these guys. Hopefully he'll bounce back from the injuries finally next season.

Here's hoping...

/Well hit down the left field line, way back and gone.................

skate919: The Pirates can't even win this award? That's just sad.

Nobody on the Pirates is particularly bad. In fact, nearly every other team in baseball has at least one player worse than all the players on the Pirates.

The Pirates' problem is that every team in baseball has at least three players better than the Pirates' best player.

I guessed those two before even opening the link. It should be a tie. I have issues because I want to punch anyone that wears a Soriano jersey or cheers for the guy...which sucks because I always sit in the left-field bleachers.

FYI, the best player to be in the bleachers for is when Carlos Lee comes in town. He takes it all in stride and jokes around a lot.
