Cheer, Cheer for old Notre Dame,
Wake up the echoes cheering her name,
Send a volley cheer up high!

You know, I'm not sure if Yahweh, a God of all encompassing love and forgiveness, would exactly care who spoke where, and reward or deny victory on such grounds.

But then again, maybe my Sunday schooling with Methodists was sorely lacking on Jehovah's love for collegiate football...

There are some levels of suck you can't even blame on Obama. Go in peace.

Or would be, if Sarah Palin had ever accomplished anything in the past.

He knew they were going to let Obama speak, so he was preemptively punishing them. It's one of the perks of knowing fate before it unfolds.

Nice, tough guy. Pre-emptively strike someone who's never been to Alaska. Or, for that matter, Hawaii.

But I've seen all the lower 48, the REAL America, and I once thought of running for mayor, and I don't have any children who've had illegitimate children (so far as I know). I've even seen the Notre Dame campus, a pustule on the backside of Indiana.

And if any of this makes sense to you, you're as drunk as I am, and as ready for bed.

As governor of Alaska, she represented as many people as members of the House of Representatives do, and she didn't even complete one term. And there is no way in hell there was ever a real possibility of her being Vice President; indeed, she's what put the last nail in the coffin of that campaign.

And yet, with all of those considerations, she's below Mike Dukakis in any sort of political success.

Dukakis.

Bloody William [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-11-22 03:08:32 AM
Sorry, I suppose I should say political accomplishment. The vapid small-town-mayor-turned-half-assed-governor-turned-failed-vice-presidential-pick has certainly gotten plenty of celebrity success in the right-wing political field. Of course, that success is defined solely by the fact that reactionary nutjobs farking love her because... farked if I know. She wrote an inexplicably petty and inaccurate book, lost a vice presidential bid, was governor of a small (population and economy-wise) state for a fraction of a term, and was the mayor of a town smaller than my own hometown. But shiat, the rubes eat up her bullshiat folksiness and worship her like the next savior of the Republican party, so I suppose she is more successful on the national political scene, in terms of short-term, partisan popularity, than Dukakis.

Im putting the line at 2in7 that this thread turns into political argument.

1 in 7 that it goes towards butthurt atheists baiting religious folk.

1 in 25 that it is about ND footballl.

1 in 200 that Weis sees another year of coaching at Notre dame

1:1000 that Weis has has seen his Weiss Weener in 5 years.

1in13 that I'll bother to read the article.

10in1 is gang rape or Japanese porn

10 in. penis is a lie he hopes she believes

SamFlagg [TotalFark] 2009-11-22 03:47:59 AM
As a conservative and Notre Dame football fan I can definitively say, that God is punishing Notre Dame for thinking that a guy whose only play call is "Throw the ball 40 yards down field and hope" on every down is a good coach.

(secretly hopes that this thread turns into a discussion of how every one involved in the Bill Belichick coaching tree is absolutely worthless)

And yet she was still elected to be the leader of a state. That's not something anyone gets to do. It's still an accomplishment, whether you want to admit it or not.

You're 5 foot nothin', 100 and nothin', and you have barely a speck of athletic ability. And you hung in there with the best college football players in the land for 2 years. And you're gonna walk outta here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame. In this life, you don't have to prove nothin' to nobody but yourself. And after what you've gone through, if you haven't done that by now, it ain't gonna never happen. Now go on back.

I don't follow football, but even as a Hoosier, I've only ever heard about Notre Dame's past and/or Rudy. Seriously, it's a well respected school, but beyond that I only ever hear about IU and Purdue sports teams. Is Notre Dame even a semi contender anymore? Or has it been in the past 20 odd years?

And Rudy.

It makes perfect sense. There is unimaginably evil in the world. Millions of christians in the third world suffer unimaginable hardships. Christians are actually persecuted for their beliefs in some places. There are many evil people who speak and act against the teachings of christ.

Clearly sabotaging a sports team that only a very small number of people know or care about in response to the speach of a christian who isn't quite the right sort of christian in some people view is the logical action to take.

There are a large number of people who deserve to struck down by lightning. There are millions suffering from hunger with no mana falling from the sky. There is war and terror going on in the world without God stepping in and messing with celestial mechanics. None of this is happening.

Even if you belive in a different sort of God, one who is primarly concerned with Gay Marriage, Government Healthcare, Socialism, Legalizing Soft Drugs, Prostitution and similar stuff, you have to admit that all that and more is happening right now in places like the Netheralnds. The Netherlands happen to lie largely below the ocean level and the only thing keeping the country from being totally flooded is a system of dams and dykes built by their government. Amsterdam is not under water!

I think the case can be made that the whole divine intervention thing and the signs from above probably are not happening right now with any frequency or relibility. Or else we can agree that if they do happen they happen without any discernable rhyme or reason and that God is work in very mysterious ways.

Lets ignore this for now until we have some less ambigous signs like the ones that happened all the time back in the old testament.

God is punishing Notre Dame because Notre Dame is a mortal institution and therefore inherently stained with sin.

Notre Dame is punished Notre Dame because Notre Dame is entangled in a web of attachments.

Newton's Third Law is punishing Notre Dame because Notre Dame has acted previously.

The other team is punishing Notre Dame because Notre Dame sucks at football.
