Good luck, but I bet he still puts "I was drafted ahead of Michael Jordan" on his tombstone.

If Lexington picks Bowie before Michael Jordan they are a bunch of fools.

I guess he is trying to be a real TRAIL BLAZER amirite ladies?

I am sick of this debate. It isn't even close. Sam Bowie was a better basketball player than Michael Jordan. Need evidence?

- Sam Bowie averaged more rebounds per game (7.5 to 6.2) than Michael Jordan.
- Sam Bowie played for more teams (3 to 2) than Michael Jordan. This indicates a greater demand for Bowie's services.1
- When the Portland Trailblazers played the Los Angeles Lakers, Sam Bowie was asked to guard Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the leading scorer in NBA history. Due to his limitations at guarding NBA-level centers, Michael Jordan was never asked to do this.2
- Despite Sam Bowie's label as "injury-prone", he played more games than Michael Jordan during the 1985-86 (38 to 18), 1993-94 (25 to 0), and 1994-95 (64 to 17) NBA regular seasons.
- Sam Bowie shot over seventy percent from three-point range during the 1988-89 NBA season, hitting five of his seven threes. He refrained from using his incredible shooting talents because it would have cheapened the sport.3

I don't even see how you can argue elsewise. Chicago won six rings in eight seasons? With Bowie, it could have easily been eleven or twelve. It's an absolute travesty that Sam Bowie is not in the Hall of Fame and you should all be ashamed of yourselves.

I am truly embarrassed as an American that this is even an issue. WTF is the matter with people?

That would totally mess me up if a 7-footer was playing in the group in front of me.

If I'm waiting in the fairway while he's putting out it would visually make me think I'm closer to the green than I actually was.

if no black people had ever applied to the club, it is a NON issue. read the entire article before you judge "people"?

sam bowie probably gets carte blanc in kentucky. i bet some kentucky fans would still give gillispie a hand job in the parking lot, i'd imagine sam gets a few steps above that treatment. sheesh!!!

It would be far easier if the color barrier was another term for leg.

In the mid 90s, he sat in front of me at UK football games. Fortunately, about 8 rows in front of me, so I could see.

Was living in Portland and a friends dad ran a car dealership. Has a picture of Jordan with his dad in a #23 Blazer Jersey.

Still makes me sad.

Freaking Sam Bowie.

In 1999, the state Human Rights Commission began investigating Idle Hour because it had no black members. The commission dropped the case last year because it could not find a plaintiff who would assert that membership had been denied because of race, Morgan Ransdell, an attorney with the commission said previously.

Idle Hour officials said in 2006 that they were willing to have African-American members but that none had applied.

I thought he was dead?

Stood next to him at the Lexington airport once during his playing days. He looked much thinner on TV. The dude is HUGE.

I am not saying the place isn't racist, because it may be, but you make a good point. If no black person ever even applied how can they know for certain the club is currently racist? Is it their responsibility to go out and recruit minorities?

I had family that were members at Idle Hour and we'd go for Fourth of July every year. It's more than just that they don't have any minority members, its also that they ONLY have minority waitstaff. It was disconcerting to see that, and know that the one old black guy not in a service uniform wasn't enjoying the party, he was the head of the waitstaff checking on his employees.

Plus, the story we heard was that back in the 80's when Toyota opened their Camry plant in Georgetown, KY (about 30 minutes up the highway), rather than be seen as the bigots they were by declining membership to the affluent Japanese that relocating to the area, they just closed new membership entirely.
