Midwest doesn't have time for your shiat, Vikings. We have bigger problems than your stupid lease.

The people of Minnesota deserve better than that. So did Seattle; it's like Basketball is becoming reality

I think you guys said that to the Lakers too, and they went to LA. Now you guys have the Timber Wolves... how is that working out?

I expect the Vikings to go too if MN doesn't get its act together. It would suck a lot as I have grown up a fan of the Minnesota Vikings, but the reality of it is the Vikings have been getting the short end of the stick for decades on that stadium. I'm sure if the vikes move to LA that will mean another realignment of the divisions too.

I do mean baseketball; I saw the spelling error thing go on and reflexively corrected it without really thinking. Also, I hope Clay sucks a bag of dicks first and then dies in a fire, and I'm a Celtics fan

Technically, I'm a Wisconsinite and therefore a Packers fan.

We may HATE the Vikings and Bears, but along with the Lions, end of the day we're a pretty close-knit group. We want to play each other. Right now, though, the whole NFC North area has bigger concerns than sports arenas.

And yes, Wisconsin has a team at stake too, though not the Packers. We're getting sick of hauling the Bucks around our collective neck. They damn well better not ask for a new stadium or they're going to be shoved on the first flight to Seattle so fast they won't know what the fark.

Not too familiar for the reasons the prior teams left are you guys? Hint: it holds a lot of spectators and California is building a new one near LA.

Yup. Perfectly aware. And the new stadium will never be above 70% capacity after the "buzz" of the first couple of years wears off.

If they win, it would be the hottest ticket in town. Nobody, and I mean nobody, in the country fills up a bandwagon the way LA does.

To the Vikings, I say: GTFO.

Seriously, just go. I'm sick of hearing about your bullshiat stadium needs. Yeah, the Inflatable Toilet sucks, I get it. Want another? Build it your motherfarking self, Wilf.

tallguywithglasseson: So has this new stadium actually been financed, or do they just have drawings?

I read an article the other day, I'll try to find it. Thy've got a guy with the cash, the financing, and the desire but he will not start the project until he owns or is promised an NFL team. He's working hard on it.

ThoughtSpy 2009-11-20 08:23:21 PM
I'm in Cleveland. Could we just trade teams?

Our stadium is fairly new. I'd be willing to do a straight-up trade.....

I dont know much about the stadium issue, but i for one would love a new Vikings stadium right here in St. Paul.

deadsanta 2009-11-20 08:24:06 PM
The current stadium is only 27 years old, just farking reno it already Jesus. Fenway is what, 97 years old, small as shiat and Boston still makes a heap of cash from it.

All of these projects are overbuilt and absurd, especially in the current economic climate. How the fark is LA paying for anything in the next 5 years, let alone a new $1B stadium?

Thac0isWhac0 [TotalFark] 2009-11-20 08:25:33 PM
I love the Vikings but I HATE the big inflatable toilet. I don't mind them getting a new stadium, but the Wilf's need to pony up a good chunk of the change for that.

chechcal 2009-11-20 08:29:10 PM
The one obstacle is that Roski, the guy building the stadium, wants majority ownership of whatever team moves there. Most owners aren't interested in leaving the most profitable league in the world

Itys 2009-11-20 08:31:36 PM
Do not let the Vikings leave Minnesota. I love hating the Vikings almost as much as I love the Packers. It would be like losing my red headead loser of a step brother.
Vikings in California = boring. Vikings in Minneapolis = fun rivalry. Give them a new damn stadium already. Cheap bastards.

Kygz 2009-11-20 08:32:10 PM
tallguywithglasseson: So has this new stadium actually been financed, or do they just have drawings?

Ed Roski has vowed to build the stadium without any public money.(pops to 670 the score)

deadsanta: All of these projects are overbuilt and absurd, especially in the current economic climate. How the fark is LA paying for anything in the next 5 years, let alone a new $1B stadium?

A guy wants to build it himself. No city/county/state money needed. There's another development project tied to the stadium (a bunch of office/retail space) that will finance both construction and ongoing maintenance. Same type of deal the Chargers were looking for at the Q, only the Chargers would have gotten free land (that contains a large Superfund site) out of it.

Not majority, 40% interest. Same basic idea though.

move the Raiders back to LA. they can stay for 10 years then move again and we have a huge, unoccupied stadium for the Galaxy to play at once a year.

//LA is not a good pro football market, too much competition, easy as that.

They're also consistently good enough to charge $TEXAS for tickets. For the prices we would pay for mediocre seats at Fenway my family would get front row, third base line seats at Camden Yards.

Plus, Fenway has an appeal that can't be compared to too many stadiums left standing. It's basically Wrigley and Fenway and Madison Square Garden. Especially now that Soldier Field has a spaceship parked in it and Yankee Stadium moved across the street.

Bye Viqueeens....its been fun. I won't miss games in the dome and the piped in noise when were losing to the pack. I know not now since we suck. If Zigman mans up and pays for the stadium I can see you staying but Minnesotans are notoriously cheap and wont want any tax dollars spent on it. I guess St.Louis to the NFC north then? Indy? PLEASE STL!!!

Being a Bears fan, I would say that is pretty true and I would be annoyed if the Vikings left. Goddamnit Bears!

I don't care about basketball, but I was mighty pissed when the Northstars went to Dallas.

As awesome as Favre is... I find it hard to believe he'll still be playing in 2012 :)

I mean, it's certainly possible. The guy is insane for being 40. Warren Moon was pretty good through his early 40s too.

But 2012 is pushin it :)

/Still, maybe they can use until then to find a decent quarterback for after Favre actually retires for good.

Candlestick was originally built to be baseball-only, then renovated to be multipurpose (making it kinda suck for both sports). Then the Giants moved and got a new park, leaving the Niners in a still-multipurpose park that was designed for baseball.

I forgot where I was going with this..

This ought to be the perfect time to tickle my schadenfreude; cash-strapped governments and citizens listen to bleating from millionaires complaining about their inability to make money in their tax & often rent-free stadiums, then consider how best to extend a collective middle finger - with or without a boot up their powdered and triple-ply-wiped asses?

Instead, I'm eating Ramen & looking through Craigslist job ads for male penis models, wondering both why I got shafted on penis size and why people seem to love bailing out millionaires.

I think Brett Favre would do well in Los Angeles. I mean retire from the NFL at the age of 50 is like retiring from work at the age of 90. Plus you will have a few more Super Bowl rings and built a dynasty that would rival the Steelers, Patriots, 49ers, and Cowboys for years to come.

No you don't.
Also, that would drop it back to 31 teams, and no one wants that again (remember the New Browns, pre-Texans years?)

Slives 2009-11-20 10:16:10 PM
As an out of state Vikings fan, I am not sure I could stomach them moving out west.

Both sides on this are being difficult, but I suspect that if the Vikings move, Minneapolis will find themselves loosing a fair bit of revenue. The city council will probably find themselves wishing they had done something.

The perfect result would be if the Viking ownership had enough money to go it alone and build their own stadium preferably just out-side the city limits so they could laugh in their faces. Not that I want a Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder as the owner, just their pocketbooks...
