Tip 2: shop for deals at sites like slickdeals.net and fatwallet.com

They have deals every day that beat black Friday deals.

I also find it amusing to watch them pick apart Black Friday ads. The consensus this year is that the deals pretty much stink, with very few great deals.

Boy, I'm glad I don't work retail anymore... Black Friday was one of those days where you didn't feel like coming in, you didn't feel like staying for you whole shift, and you wished the sweet hand of Death would come down from the sky and bless you with oblivion.

I still work on Black Friday, but it's in an office answering phones... And hardly anyone calls because they think we're closed. I expect to be on Fark & Wikipedia a lot that day.

Years ago, I got my wife 12 place settings of discontinued Noritake china for $300. Retail was nearly $2K. I got laid. Thanks Fatwallet!

The best deal I've seen so far is the PS3 one at Walmart, with Gamestop having an ok one. Every other deal seems pedestrian or very limited quantities this year.

I got suckered into going out once on Black Friday.

Once.

I make a decent enough living that standing around for 12 hours in the freezing cold, then stampeding through the aisles with a bunch of wild-eyed morons isn't worth $500 off a lousy Chinese-made TV.

I love hearing the horror stories about Black Friday. I don't know why, but it is relaxing to me. I am thinking of getting Total Fark for a month or two just to see all of the Black Friday threads. Maybe because I worked in retail in college.

WTF is up with the 360 deal? While for the PS3 they are offering InFamous and Arkham Asylum games and the Dark Knight on Blu-Ray, they are offering...two Madagascar DVDs and the video game? WTF is that lame sh*t?!

They had a better deal with the 360 Arcade 2 weeks ago: it came with a $100 gift card. I finally grabbed one to go with my PS3 because, hey, it was effectively $100 off.

Had it long enough by now to say without any reservation that the PS3 is the far better console, though...nevermind the 360's noise, the online seems laggy as hell...but oh well, my CoD playing buddies are 360 guys, so...

Still blows my mind how I'd just thrust it at them, saying "here, you want this, too" and they'd all say "oh, yeah," take it and walk off.

4:30? Last year people were lining up in front of Best Buy on Wednesday. What an idiotic way to spend Thanksgiving.

I woke up at 3am a few years back to get some videogames and DVDs. I knew I wasted my sleeping time when I realized you don't need to get up insanely early for items like those.

did 6 of them working at best buy...would just stock all the items on endcaps and then when the doors opened run to the back of the store climb up a ladder and watch the flood of fatties fly through getting there useless shiat. Seriously sounded like a herd of wild animals fighting over $99 desktops and $20 dvd players

Buy things online.

A) No wasted gas.
B) No dealing with a-holes.
C) No dealing with things being out of order (even when they are out of stock online, they simply ship it when they got it!)
D) No sales tax (and with amazon, no shipping either!)
E) Compare all the prices on one convenient website.
F) Even cheaper than most stores.

Not improbable at all. A couple years ago I had a 65 inch Hitachi CRT, 1080i. It weighed less than 300 pounds. Probably around 200. I got rid of it because it took up way too much floor space though.

As far as transporting it, it'll fit in the back of an S-10.

Boycott Black Friday!

Seriously, the manufactured consumer madness has to end somewhere, and I'm certainly thinking the "Black Friday" tradition is a good place from which to start. When folks die because sociopathic shoppers are worked into a froth by retailers anxious to make a profit off fake shortages, bait-and-switch tactics, and other shoddy business practices, it's gotta stop.

Stay home, stay warm, stay comfortable, stay safe.

According to howstuffworks ( Link (new window) ), 40 was the biggest marketed.

You probably had a rear projection tv. I think a crt with a 60 inch diagonal screes would need to be 5 foot long as well.

This black friday is gonna be the worst one one record. Massive tramplings, murders at the hands of gun carrying a-holes, etc...
Why do I believe this?

Ok

1) The economy. Sure last year is when it started (Bush is to blame of course) however, more and more people have had to live with it for over a year unlike last year. The media has created part of the panic as well as people really truly falling on hard times. Because more and more people have hit rock bottom, there is more desperation ergo, more fights.

2) Teaparty WHARRGARBL the "I bring guns to town hall meetings Obama nazi socialist muslims niggra president ain't gonna take my guns so I bring them everywhere" is gonna be out in full retard force.

This will not end well.

yes i think he just got CRT confused with rear projection. Most common and best rear projections came from Samsung and their DLP lines which actually were pretty nice. I saw of those over 50 inches in peoples homes and it was like having a small car parked in your living room. I know a guy who has one of the original 50 inch rear projections that first hit the market and it's massive, probably weighs over 300 easily.

I'm inclined to agree, mostly for reason #1, though. When you think about it, #2 is just a consequence of #1.

I'm still of the opinion Samsung's DLP TVs are the best HD TVs out there. I have a 52" that's about three years old. While the base goes back about 13 inches at its deepest, the majority of the set is only about 2 inches deep. It weighs about 30 pounds. Only thing I've ever had to do with it is replace the bulb about a year ago.
