As far as I'm concerned, cable TV died when MST3K was canceled right after its resurrection.

Okay, there's Monk, but... well... yeah.

I dislike Oprah.

There, I said it.

i doubt it, this is a generally poor country and their will always be loners, riff raff hanging around all day to watch television on a box not necessarily from cable.

Trik 2009-11-20 07:18:30 PM
They were going to end the show once before, like 10 years ago
At the last moment she decided she was just too important to everyone and decided to keep going
So it was a stunt to boost ratings, or something
Might be this time too

Let's take Dr. Phil and Oprah and smash their heads together!

MBrady 2009-11-20 08:56:54 PM
Meh. I didn't care for her ever, but I was like, "hey, whatever floats your boat."

That was until a few years ago when she was in London, when she pulled the race card because she wanted to shop in some clothing store after midnight, AFTER the store was closed: "You won't open the door because I'm black."

Now, DIAF

Why do you hate America?

I'm pretty much willing to sacrifice all of television, broadcast or otherwise if it means Oprah is gone.

TimeWaste: But who will tell me what to do?

The Oprah Winfrey Network, formerly Discovery Health, coming soon. Yup. I weep for cable, but the sheeple will still have her to listen to.

Wasilla Hillbilly 2009-11-20 09:55:49 PM
Perhaps, just perhaps, Dr. Phil will follow suit.

Used to like Oprah and her book club. Now, I find her excessive.

Kiskopotho 2009-11-20 10:16:21 PM
Never seen the show, but appreciate the effort she put in to getting people to read books.

/Liked her in the color purple, but I can't fap to that, so....

I heard she killed a boy in 1990.

Have you read any of the books she has showcased? Regardless my main beef with her she has had guests on her show repeatably pushing dodgy medical advice. Good riddance i say.

duckpoopy 2009-11-20 10:45:54 PM
Oh no, where will my stupid middle-aged female relatives get all of the misinformation they mass-email to everyone? How will they know what dreck paperback book to read?

Did she showcase The Poisonwood Bible? If so, I didn't read it because of her. I read it because someone else recommended it to me after reading it, because of her.

/But riddance, good or bad, her to, anyway.

Time Traveler: Where is she going to store her massive ego?

I predict she'll run for office. If you look at how she sees Obama winning the election she'll see this as a cue, "If he can do it, so can I"

Besides, she's Oprah, how can she not win an election?

Bhasayate [TotalFark] 2009-11-21 12:30:05 AM

She'll still do that. And her stupid magazine. And God knows what else. She's not going away. Just her stupid show.

The big question is: Will Gayle King be moving to California to live with Oprah?

After seeing her giant tomato-shaped head on Yahoo, the only thing I can think of is what is going to come out against her in the next few days. The woman is pompous and so self-serving that it's insane to think she would just involuntarily quit. It could be that she's gotten a lot of shiat press about the book club that is now seen by most as completely pathetic or that her ratings are dropping, but I'm guessing someone caught her with Gail and now there are pics about to be leaked.

And for Oprah, that would be the end.

Hence the 'I'm going in 2011' call. She can get another big 'last' season going and if anybody drops her, nobody will care because she's already on the way out.

The Bozo show lasted 40 years. Oprah has only lasted 22. Chicago weeps at her failure.

Yeah. Because local stations won't pony up thousands of dollars per episode for syndicated shows, broadcast television will end. Uh huh. If ONLY there were some way many of them could join together and get programming from a source that will provide them with shows with that source taking in revenue from national advertisers to finance the shows. Forming a sort of "network" if you will. Nah. Never happen.

She did! My friend's cousin's hairdresser's ex saw. It's a damn shame.

It's like these people live in a completely different world. Does anyone seriously care?

There's at least one precedent.

Monday Night Football moving from ABC to ESPN a couple years ago.

The world didn't spin off it's axis.

I stopped spending money on TV years ago and this strengthens my resolve not to waste money on cable TV.

Several thoughts:

1. Now maybe crackpots like Dr. Oz, Sylvia Browne, and Rhonda Byrne (author of The Secret) will not get their foot in the door of American pop culture. This is a good thing.

2. Tyra Banks has GOT to be standing on the sidelines, twirling her mustache and laughing like Snidely Whiplash.

3. Oprah not being on TV means it won't be long before Oprah enters politics. Expect Governor Oprah in the next 20 years... Or maybe President Winfrey?

4. Pretty much everyone in America with a job does 99% more work than she ever did, and got paid 99,999% less than she did. I don't think the majority will be sad to see her go.

5. All that being said, I'd still pull a "Dave Chapelle" and shack up with Oprah, because she's not wholly unattractive, and she's about the richest woman on Earth. I'd fark her daily if it meant never having to worry about mundane things like rent, bills, and where I'm going to scrape up the cash for a diamond-encrusted Rolls Royce being driven by a beautiful naked woman, when the mood strikes me.

The cult that is Oprah is not going away. Once she gets her own network (Oprah Winfrey Network) she won't have to share the money with the syndicators. Someone with her oversized ego, used to being worshipped like a god, is not going to go away. Those of you who have never seen her show, turn it on just long enough to see her entrance. You'll see stupid biatches crying when she appears as the audience gives her a standing ovation just for walking out on the stage.
No, there's no way she's walking away from the adoration and money thrown at her.

NetOwl 2009-11-21 07:55:07 PM
A monument to mediocrity is now fading. This makes me happy.

I hope she dies in a fire and takes Jenny McCarthy with her.
