Just in time to spike fuel prices.

WTF Indeed 2009-11-20 01:55:29 PM
But whats the betting line on drunk driving deaths? Some of us need to get even from last weekend!

Manute Bol 2009-11-20 01:55:50 PM
read that as AA releases...thought it was an advertising campaign

TsukasaK 2009-11-20 01:56:16 PM
I really wish we'd stop reporting news about motor travel and oil, the price of gas always goes through the farking roof for no good reason.

You're think AA, not Ariple A.

I once drove from San Francisco to San Diego in 2000 on the Wednesday before thanksgiving and it was bumper to bumper the entire trip down the 5. Took the 4 of us packed in an early 90s toyota celica 14 hours go to 500 miles. On the way back Sunday morning, it took 19 hours. Never again will I do that.

NO WAI!

/is driving 320 miles the day after Thanksgiving

Let's see, you make a report about how much land travel is going to cost, and then... Surprise, surprise, gas prices rise!.

Buuut, if we make a report abut how air traveling would rise... Surprise, surprise! The check-ups rise, as well as ticket prices!.

Seriously, aren't the train and the bus better alternatives?.

trappedspirit 2009-11-20 01:59:52 PM
It's really hard to report on trends and historical data without using OLD NEWS

I'll be driving four miles roundtrip. Actually just two miles one way after I have six vodka rocks.

Read that as AA as well.

/Beer me

Well thank god they finally released that report! I've been waiting to make travel plans until I had a better idea of what traffic would be like.

No. Some of us actually prefer being in control of our own schedule as well as who (or what) occupies the space immediately around us. But you stick to riding public transportation, mmmkay?

Uh... you realize he's saying they're alternatives to air travel, which has the same issues you just mentioned, right?

I don't think he was knocking taking your own private helicopter or whatever it is you're doing.

Meh, my town is unfortunately THE black Friday shopping destination for half of the state. There is nothing that could put me behind the wheel that weekend. For whatever reason, no matter how big the family is that travels, they pick the senior or the woman to drive. Because turn signals are for biatches and making a right turn from the left lane is just strategic driving.

LeafyGreens 2009-11-20 02:18:18 PM
585 miles (one way) to eat smoked turkey and fixin's!

Do you live in Woodbridge or Tyson's?

// Woodbridge. I've started my annual boycott of the area around Potomac Mills...

my mom always says, after we've demolished the thanksgiving meal she spent so much time on, "takes all day to make it, and 15 minutes to eat it."

i think she would feel much more justified if we all spend 33 hours driving time to earn that meal...

I prefer the TV news reports from the packed-solid airports -- those have people's names and towns right on the screen for the criminal who believes in planning ahead.

You'd think AAA would cut us some slack and report that no one was expected to travel just to see if gas prices would drop.

Try driving from DC to Connecticut, and back, before and after Christmas.

Seriously, try it. You're the only one, and you'll have 95 to yourself.

//don't do it. ever. I won't again, that's for dayam sure.

....and remember, people. Please stay of the left lane if you are doing less than 80 mph. Some people actually have sh*t to do.

Well, this'll be the third "Thanksgiving Travel Safety" piece I've seen. By contrast, I've surprisingly seen only one "Don't fry your turkey like a dumbass" bit. All in all, it's not too bad.

Deer hunting opens in Wisconsin this weekend, and we already had a multi-car pileup on the westbound Interstate this morning.

Guess some of the boys couldn't wait to get to camp to start juicing it up.

/In Wisconsin the westbound Interstate heads north for most of its length.

If the speed limit is 55, what should it matter which lane I'm in?

FIFTY miles is "traveling"?

I drive fifty miles to go to the farking grocery store and back.

I have to drive from Orlando to Valdosta GA to get to my parents house. Turnpike will be torture, then it gets a little easier once I am on I75. But I have to be back to work on Saturday, so I come home on Friday, which helps. Seriously considering driving up *late* Tuesday after I get off work at 2230, but we'll see.

Ugh. My sister and I are driving from L.A. to Seattle leaving the morning after Thanksgiving, turkey hangover notwithstanding.

We figured it should be pretty smooth sailing Friday and Saturday, and hopefully we'll make Seattle by Sunday afternoon.

She told me she was getting the trip routed on MapQuest or some such nonsense. I said, "It's LA to Seattle. We drive to the beach and turn right."

Anyone have any tips for must-sees along the way?

Dr_Retriever 2009-11-20 04:28:18 PM
I am not going anywhere for Thanksgiving. Black Friday is a different story. I will be headed to Jordan Hare....about 15 miles from my house....CBS and half the state will converge on The Loveliest Village on the Plains for the Iron Bowl.

WAR EAGLE, HEY!!!

I'm not sure that you are going to make it in 3 days going along 101.

And, coming from LA, you know that it rains here, right? Not a sprinkle, not a brief shower, but steady, mind numbing, 40 degree rain - day in and day out until late April. Combine that with the leaden gray clouds and that it gets light at 8 in the morning and dark at 3:30 in the afternoon because we are so far north and it's no wonder we have the highest suicide rates.

Just makin' sure you did your research....

AAA sucks.

These guys were recommended by Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers.

It's amazing how a little known auto club can come up with so many discounts!
