I once drove from San Francisco to San Diego in 2000 on the Wednesday before thanksgiving and it was bumper to bumper the entire trip down the 5. Took the 4 of us packed in an early 90s toyota celica 14 hours go to 500 miles. On the way back Sunday morning, it took 19 hours. Never again will I do that.

my mom always says, after we've demolished the thanksgiving meal she spent so much time on, "takes all day to make it, and 15 minutes to eat it."

i think she would feel much more justified if we all spend 33 hours driving time to earn that meal...

I prefer the TV news reports from the packed-solid airports -- those have people's names and towns right on the screen for the criminal who believes in planning ahead.

I have to drive from Orlando to Valdosta GA to get to my parents house. Turnpike will be torture, then it gets a little easier once I am on I75. But I have to be back to work on Saturday, so I come home on Friday, which helps. Seriously considering driving up *late* Tuesday after I get off work at 2230, but we'll see.

We figured it should be pretty smooth sailing Friday and Saturday, and hopefully we'll make Seattle by Sunday afternoon.

She told me she was getting the trip routed on MapQuest or some such nonsense. I said, "It's LA to Seattle. We drive to the beach and turn right."

Anyone have any tips for must-sees along the way?

I am not going anywhere for Thanksgiving. Black Friday is a different story. I will be headed to Jordan Hare....about 15 miles from my house....CBS and half the state will converge on The Loveliest Village on the Plains for the Iron Bowl.
