I hate being "better than that"

It would be just as inappropriate, but not treading anywhere near possible illegalities unless she becomes POTUS.

I personally feel she may have dashed her head against rocks earlier in life, for the amount of stupid that spills out of her Goddamn piehole.

Yeah, being sneaky and using a Psalm to pray to God to get rid of Obama is stupid but...

I am one of the people who called Cafe Press and expressed outrage when they reinstated the sale of the Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8 items.

Anyone who expresses outrage is a twat. No, i'm not expressing outrage, just disdain.

Actually, that's sort of the point of the article. That this is a bad thing, and that if the Palinized version of it showed up, the conservatives would cry foul.

"What if they sold "Pray for Palin: Psalm 137:8" merchandise?"

Hm. Interesting supposition, DailyKos. But let me raise a different, equally unknowable question: What if I went back in time and had sex with Eva Braun before she and Hitler got together? How would this color her impressions of Hitler? Could I have prevented WW2 with just my penis?

Such questions we will never have the answer to because, as far as I'm aware, none of us have the ability to look into parallel dimensions.

Also, you're starting to sound like the right-wing "If Bush had done what Obama's doing you lefties would be frothing with rage" crowd.

I don't get what the big deal was in the first place. If they had simply said Psalm 137, or included the rather extreme verses then that's something else.

But "May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership"? Oh noooo, the crazy right wingers!11one!!!!

They're ignorant tards, but you can't find any better things to nail them on? Really?

Look at this thread so far. The floodgates are open. We're going down that path already. No sales are necessary.

This needs to stop, this needs to stop pronto, and I'd really have preferred that neither this nor the original had been greenlit in the first place. It's just planting some very sickening, horrifying ideas in a lot of people's heads that don't need to be there.

Some biblical snark without the death threats:

"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12: I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent."

-Timothy 2:11-12 (NIV)

Gosling 2009-11-20 03:50:51 PM
Everybody that's supported this kind of behavior or said it's not a big deal, on either end of the equation, needs to take a step back and have a serious farking think about just what it is they're advocating or at the very least not speaking out against, even in jest. Even mistakenly. I don't give a damn what Bible passage you're using or who it's aimed at. I haven't even looked at the passages you guys are quoting, really, and I doubt many others are either, and at the end of the day it doesn't even matter what passage you're quoting because they're all building on the originals, whether you mean them to or not. You could be quoting 'love thy neighbor' and it's still building in some way on the original that implies a call for a family man's death.

Forget that it's Sarah Palin. Forget that it's Barack Obama. Forget their parties; forget their policies. One of them is a mother of multiple children and a former Vice Presidential candidate. The other is a father of multiple children and the President of the United States. These are both human beings with people that care about them, not chess pieces to be knocked over.

Take their names out of it. Replace "Pray for Obama" or "Pray for Palin" with your own name. If it were you that all this were aimed at, would it still be something to joke about?

No. This is something that requires the exact opposite of 'lighten up'. This is a time to take a dark, sober examination at just what we've become as human beings that this kind of reprehensible behavior is considered acceptable in the slightest, in any venue, anywhere on this planet.

Nobody's hiding behind the 'serious business' or 'it's just Fark/the Internet' curtain; not today. I will not allow it.

Schadenfreude ist die schoenste Freude: May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership

I think it's highly likely that the Kos writer is accurate in interpreting the message behind this slogan and that it is suggesting people pray for the assassination of the POTUS. There are other ways and other Bible verses (if you must) to suggest discontent with an elected leader and to wish for him to not be re-elected than to quote one that is so obviously referring to murder (especially as it continues on to talk about making widows and leaving children fatherless).

If American citizens praying for, promoting and possibly making money from the promotion of the assassination of the elected POTUS doesn't concern y'all, well... he's not my president. But ultimately I find it pretty damn hard to understand as I personally wouldn't wish an assassination on anyone; not Obama, not Palin, not even Bush. I hate the idea of human beings seriously wishing death on other human beings.

This sort of thing is tasteless at best and traitorous at worse. YMMV

Believe me, sometimes I have similar urges. But it will not do to stoop to that level. There's no guarantee that stooping to their level will eradicate the problem; it may only lead to bloodshed. But even if it did eradicate the original problem... what's keeping us from going down the same path ourselves?

Why is this a "What If" question?

It is CafePress for farks sake! Someone just go up an make a Palin 137:8 shirt and see what happens. And then if they pull it down, you have your debate. I would even put a URL pointing to the Obama psalm merchandise as a reference to why you created that shirt.

Saying "Well, what would happen if".... when you can VERY MUCH make it happen is a stupid exercise.

Oh cool, I wish I was hip and could use pointless abbreviations like POTUS.

Stop reading so much into it. But if that's what gets your rocks off, have at it.

how about a shirt that says Mark 29-31

29"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[c]There is no commandment greater than these."
