Yeah, and the latest studies that came out this week say you don't need to get a mammogram until what age?

/sad, truly sad

I don't know who this woman is, but my money says she's not important enough for me to care.

I would guess that study was based on aggregate numbers that indicate there is no significant increase in lifespan for women who receive mammograms in their 40s. In some individual cases, aka anecdotal evidence, obviously the mammograms helped but in the vast majority they did not. Similar arguments are being made about whether it is worthwhile to measure PSA levels on a routine basis.

It's real sad that she found out she had cancer at age 30. Too bad she had a 12 year battle to try and overcome it.

I'd like to think you're a little kid trying to be an ITG, but it's probably closer to the truth that you're just an ass.

So which is better? Diagnosed @ 30 and dead by 32? Or battling cancer for 12 years?

/ no snark... just lost my mom to ALS, made it 14 months after the official diagnosis
// her "quality of life" wasn't that great at the end

We have.

In 5th grade, my friend Ryan and I even did the write up on it. Our hypothesis was that he and I had invented the cure for cancer while experimenting with our chemistry sets. But my mom came in and made us clean up. So dumped all the stuff out.

/ check the sewers in Raytown, MO, the cancer treatment is still there
// 22 years later

Good going, fonebone. You just made the alligators in the sewers all cancer-proof.

Let me know when someone in your life is affected by breast cancer. The odds tell me I'll be able to come around to collect.

The sad thing is, all the kids - 4 of them... plus she lost one with the initial diagnosis 12 years ago.

Anyone have an idea how old the kids are? I'm guessing, if Chris and Stefanie were dating in college, they can't be older than 20.

earl_k [TotalFark] 2009-11-20 02:51:04 PM
Chris was one of the toughest and classiest players in the game, an all-around big-hearted guy. I'm saddened that he and his family has had to suffer so much.

You poor child. You'll have to listen to a news story more than once.

A family just lost their mother and wife to her fifth bout with cancer. But you know, its really too bad that you're going to have to listen to a story more than once.fark you.

According to the same guidelines about not getting mammograms every year, they also recommend NOT giving yourself a self exam. Why? Because it might "cause anxiety". Fark you, U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Dying of a detectable, curable illness causes a farkload more anxiety.
