Irony? How so?

Just because I am "politically liberal" does not mean that I agree with every "liberal policy"... there is no irony in that.

I predict a glut of subjunctive clauses and a dump of gerunds into the English Lit Exchange. I'm going to short prepositions and start buying semicolons.

Pretty sure if California had the "liberal policies" of, you know, actually being able to raise any tax without a 2/3 majority and a ballot referendum, they might not be in the situation where they're in where it's not actually possible to either raise revenue or cut spending. Government by referendum is a complete disaster. The public is not rational.

Don't you get it? If you lean liberal, than by definition you support everything Karl Marx ever wrote and want capitalism replaced with a socialist system.

And you eat puppies and hate America.

Racht: Government by referendum is a complete disaster. The public is not rational.

Exactly. Any system where the public has input, be it an economy or a government, necessitates an educated public. The US public is most definitely not educated and as such should not be trusted to make any decisions.

We don't need any more liberal scientists either. All they do is whine about global warming and evolution and other fairy tales.

CPT Ethanolic [TotalFark] 2009-11-20 11:18:45 AM
All these protests are over an increase to around $10k/year for tuition. Let them go out of state and see how that $10k works out for them. This is only about a $3000 increase in tuition over all.

jwa007: To anyone with a liberal arts degree that would be considered 'low humor' and not funny at all.

Nonsense. It would become the topic of a thesis paper studying various instances of low humor in Fark headlines and analyzing their effectiveness across a variety of categories including literary allusion, contemporary significance, word play, and irony. Said paper would then be delivered at a keynote luncheon at any one of a variety of scholarly conferences under a cutely wry title, such as "Beheading the Headlines: An Exploration of Low Humor on Internet News Aggregators." It would be a big hit and get lots of chuckles and pudgy professors would be using one-liners from it at the bar that night to try and bed the grad students and adjuncts in attendance.

Same reason when a conservative gets caught doing, well, anything, it's ironic. Since some conservative somewhere must have run for office on a platform of outlawing cheating on your wife, being gay, or drinking liquor, ergo a conservative who cheats on his wife or drinks or is gay must be a hypocrite. Even if you have to make up the cheating on his wife part.

Heh, $3000 is about what my total tuition cost per year when I started school.

My alma matter is at about $10k per year now, so maybe UC Davis is behind schedule, but a $7,000 to $10,000 one-year increase... there's nothing "only" about that, IMO.

There's a very big difference between Bachelor of Science and Liberal Arts curriculum. (new windows)

Jesus christ you two are getting your knickers in a twist over this. My original JOKE was about the subset of liberal arts majors and NOT every possible scholastic system in the known, unknown and parallel universes that may or may not exist. I thought that was abundantly clear when I posted "English lit liberal arts undergrads"

Had I known this would lead to a train wreck I would have posted a 27 page thesis with citations to make it more clear for the liberal college graduates and their internet white knights.

I'm finishing up a BS capstone right now so I'm paid up at this point, but a $3k increase six months ago would have sunk me. That's with in-state part-time study grants and working a well-compensated full time job. If I had kids or didn't have the skills to make my salary it wouldn't have even been a possibility to begin with.

Also, many schools have informal policies that students cannot receive more financial aid than they received the previous year.
