My town used to be the "Best Mid-Sized City in America" about 10 years ago. Once the secret got out, a bunch of assholes showed up and ruined it. Now it doesn't even rank in the top 50. I guess 10 families living in a single family home decreases the appeal of living next door.

Sunnyvale has some of the best Indian restaurants in CA, but not much else to recommend it. Maybe all you really need to be happy is a good vindaloo.

I guess they didn't include the cost of living into the "happy" equation. Sunnyvale's house market is regoddamndiculous. My bro-in-law moved back here after he realized that even working as a DoD software engineer he wasn't going to be able to afford anything more than a 2 bedroom apt by a park. Same thing happened to a city about 80 miles east of where I am right now.

For about 5 years in a row, it would appear in magazines in the top ten of one of the best smaller/mid sized cities for people to move into who were tired of big city life. A bunch of douchebags moved in, mainly from CA and TX (sorry, but it's true) jacked up the real estate prices, then eventually in some cases got elected to positions of powers and changed the rules to make the place more like the shiat hole they left in the first place.
