Sounds pretty urban-legendy.
I mean, who would POSSIBLY pay $16,000/gal? Even considering the alternative sources you mention... what cosmetics mfg is going to need so much HUMAN fat? Even if you DO sell a jar of exotic this-or-that for $200/jar and it's only got a little bit in it... first off, if you're that unscrupulous as to pretend that human fat has magical properties for cosmetics, I don't see why you'd be so scrupulous as to pay through the nose for REAL human fat anyways.

Second, how much fat do you actually NEED, then? I'm just saying, the market for exotic snake-oil cosmetics can't be big enough to continue to demand gallons and gallons man-lard at $16,000/gal just for the raw material. Say you actually do need human fat, and only a tiny amount per $200/jar. Then a "gallon" would probably last you a year, and seeing as you could get it from liposuction or unclaimed bodies, then the price won't be really high because there's no shortage of supply vs demand.

The alternative, say you DO sell big jars that are like 50% man-lard... then you DO need a lot, ok, but you're not gonna keep paying $16,000/gal for it. Not when that only makes 10 jars, and the profit margin needs to be factored in.

In either case, the market commanding such high prices AND quantity seems implausible.
