I don't think you can win a senate seat in New York based on polling in Florida.

He's just going to drop out again when it's revealed he's had another affair or cancer or whatever. Chelsea will challenge him.

You'd think Teabaggers would love a thrice divorced, socially liberal, cross dresser after they got behind Hoffman in the 23rd.

I'm picturing the drinking game that will be played, starting when he declares his candidacy to Election Day 2010.

Everytime he says "9/11", take a shot.

I can already hear my liver screaming obscenities at me.

And then spring to the presidency? He'd have to start running his 2012 campaign the moment he got into office. I don't think anyone would fall for that unless he promised not to run again until 2016.

But really, Rudy, you'll never be president. Give it up.

I wonder what Vice President Biden would have to say about this.

I'm guessing that he would be setting his eyes on 2016 or 2020, though he might be just looking for a senate seat.

Exactly. As a NY politician, he was loved. The second he stepped out onto the national stage, he jumped on every hack Republican platform. Now, nobody wants him.

People like Kirsten Gillibrand. She is republican enough for upstate and dem enough for downstate. Giuliani is not going to get ten feet from that seat. If Rick Lazio is the only person able challenge Paterson. I think it is a safe bet that even the ever unpopular governor could actually beat that joke by at least 5 points in a general election.

Rick Lazio can't catch a break, first Hillary comes in and eats his lunch, now Mr 911 wants it.

Arkanaut 2009-11-19 07:29:24 PM
I supported him when he was running against Hillary, but since then there's just been too many integrity issues that came up about him and his consulting firm. Rudy really should just retire and live off his abundant earnings.

Great. A couple of family members are hard right because of 9/11, making them HUGE fans of his, and they turn an unnecessary percentage of conversations political. I'm sure I'll hear about him every day now. Spec-freaking-tacular.

Did you know that Rudy Giuliani was Mayor of New York during the 9/11 attacks? I just found out! I had no idea!

Why didn't he make an effort to capitalize on that fact politically? I never heard him speak about 9/11 even once! I mean, humility is one thing, but for gawd's sake, take at a least a little credit where credit is due!

damageddude [TotalFark] 2009-11-19 08:24:53 PM
I voted for Rudy twice in the 90s (voted for Dinkins in '89 as I fell for the mosaic BS) but wouldn't have voted for him for Senate in 2000 for the same reason I wouldn't vote for him today (if I still lived in NY) -- Rudy doesn't play well with others.

That said, I can't see him running for the junior Senate seat at this point in his life. He's in his 60s, has money, and still has some influence (at least in Yankee Stadium). Why give that up to deal with all the BS a freshman Senator has to deal with?

If the country wasn't going to elect him President in 2008 they sure aren't in 2012, especially as he won't be in the Senate long enough by then to do more than find his desk before he has to start the 2012 campaign. And, as he'll be 72 in 2016, I can't see him running for Prez then.

AntiNerd 2009-11-19 08:57:19 PM
Imagine how all the adoring RG fans would have reacted if Hillary had dared to mention presidential ambitions before even starting a Senate run. She would be the harridan controlling powerhungry biatch that would exploit everyone in pursuit of her agenda.

Yet RG says it nobody bats an eye.

All his opponent needs to do to win is just play Joe Biden's "noun-verb-9/11" comment.

Just did the votey-thingy...
came up 59% "New York is so over Giuliani. He needs to stop throwing his hat in the ring."

Wonder how many of those voting are New Yorkers...
seeing as how I'm not, don't think my opinion matters for doodly-squat on this.

How can he run for Senate? He'd have to run in 2010 and there's no 11 in 2010.

2 x 2 x 2 = 8, + 1 = 9
20 - 10 = 10, + 1 = 11
Can't you see, he was born for this job!

The only thing I'd vote for him on is governor. That's a situation where somebody who doesn't play well with others is just what the doctor ordered.

SuburbanCowboy 2009-11-20 09:24:22 AM
The closer you get to Ground Zero, the less support Rudy has. If you you excluded NYC from voting, he might win. Upstate NY is NASCAR country, and even eastern Long Island to some extent. But get close to the millions of people who had Rudy as a Mayor, and the people who actually saw the towers fall, and you realize Rudy has no way of winning any office in New York.
His right hand man Bernie Kerick is in prison, and most New Yorkers just don't like him.
911.

If he runs his Senate campaign with the strategic brilliance of his run for the Presidential nomination, his mopponents should have nothing to fear.

"I don't need to run everywhere in the state. Rochester is the key. I will only campaign in Rochester. Let my opponents run all over the state, and I'll stay focused there. Winning Rochester will assure me the election. What could possibly go wrong?"

whidbey [TotalFark] 2009-11-20 05:12:54 PM
Giuliani sorely needs to f*ck off and die.

You go, GOP. Don't take any needed steps to denounce the nutbags in your party.

If your sh*t stinks, endorse it.
